  • He was in Bridesmaids!

  • its too good to comment..... =D

  • Im 11 yrs old and i like les mis a lot,i listen to it all the time,i like the 25th anniversary better tjo i havent seen all of the 10th one just like half

  • what does he say at the start? (before he starts "welcome M'sier....")

  • @burkeyboi1324 he says" and their moneys good as yours"

  • @burkeyboi1324 My band of soaks, my den of dissolute's

My dirty jokes, my always pissed as newts

My sons of whores spend there lives in my inn,

    Homing pigeons homing in

    They fly through my doors,

And their money's good as yours!

they cut out some parts but thats what he says

  • love this musical! matt lucus was amazing! shame he wasnt in it when i saw it...

  • I don't know, i think the 10th aniversary version is better just because of Alun Armstrong

  • Is anyone else bothered by the fact that Jenny Galloway says "shit" but mouths "not much there"? Or am I the only one.

  • @Smilez2211 she did for effect (hence the facial expression), not because she wasn't allowed to say it...

  • Gay -.- ....

  • the 10th anniversary performance of this song was much better in my opinion. the person in that performance just has a better voice overall, and although madame thenardier is the same person in both performances, i feel she was much better in the 10th anniversary showing.

  • his body lang is not as lively as alun armstrong while i find this madme Thénardier better than most

  • I wonder why he doesn't have a radio mic.

  • love this song !!!!!!!!

  • @pricessjackwills I dont think its possible to hate this song... except for those ten people who got charged extra for the lice.

  • @cookietheb5 lol xxx we r doing this song in theatre is awesome xxx

  • 10 people looked in the mirror twice

  • Who is having more fun in this song? Matt Lucas or the choir in the behind the orchestra? I think the choir is. I know i would if I were in that choir I'd be happy.

Also why does the part when Thenardier stumbles into view sound like Poor unfortunate Souls' start?

It does sound identical for a minute there.

  • You can tell he's enjoying himself! This was one of his dreams and he looks as happy as though Thenadier was stealing from the poor!!!

  • Omg, the pregnant woman... xD

  • you lad is a poof! what is you?

  • He's so good in this role. And he looks really, fleshy. Does that make sense? xP

  • a mash potatoe revolver

  • I get to play this evil dude, it's gonna be fun..

  • @exchristian95 sweet so do I

  • Love it. Everyone is having such fun, being in the moment!

  • i love les mis but the 10th anniversary performance is better than this!

  • i was trying to listen for matt lucas but all i could hear was marjorie dawes.

  • I'm an actor myself but this is hard to compare , excellent

  • Matt Lucas tore it UP!

I grinned from ear to ear the entire time he was on stage.

  • look at dem socks :D

  • And love love love Jenny Galloway. A complete natural

  • Creepier and darker than Alun Armstrong's performance but Matt absolutely nails it

  • Thumbs up if George Costanza brought you here.

  • The Les Miserables musical just keeps getting better and better throughout the years. BTW I have the song stuck in my head. George Costanza from Seinfield brought me here LOL

  • I'll admit I was sceptical when I heard Matt Lucas was playing Monsieur Thenardier, but he is brilliant!! Very pleasantly surprised!

  • i love that you can see the chorus members in the t-shirts having a blast singing this song

  • Sorry, Matt, as much as I love you, Alun is the better Thenardier...

  • I will admit that I haven't seen the 10th anniversary show. However, I've got the 25th anniversary show on DVD and this part is my favourite part because of Matt Lucas and the lady who plays his wife. They're hilarious! If Les Miserables is ever being put on in my city, I want to play the landlord's wife. It's a great song performed by real comics. It's great!

  • Who would dislike this?????

  • It's the drunk Napolian.

  • Matt is amazing, but Alun is twice as good.

  • @ekuurhelper totally agree,

  • This was worth watching but Alun Armstrong is still my favorite Thenardier C: and I think the woman who plays Madame Thenardier was better in the 10th as well(same person, but I liked her performance better before)

  • @SmokenTotalled very good u r so correct alun will never b beaten in the 10th anniversary dvd nor does the 25th sound as good as the 10th. the 10th dvd is one of my treasured possesions & i watch it every couple of months when i want cheering up.hope u enjoy it as much as i do. cheers

  • he looks like a butcher .... I would expect some mischievousness and subtler evil.

  • I LOVE LES MISERABLES<3

and matt lucas, i thought was SO appropriate for this part, and his teeth just look lovely, yes? and i likes that his voice was gritty. (: monsieur thernadier is supposed to be a VERY big personality, and is supposed to be a very big dose to swallow, and I give two thumbs up to Matt Lucas! Cheers!

  • Sure, maybe Matt Luas ISN'T a musical actor, but I think he fits Thenardier perfectly. I always think they sing like they would speak, like Valjean and Javert would have these dramatic, powerful voices. So I'd imagine Thenardier to be sort of rough and overdone, like Matt Lucas sings him.

  • Cameron Blakeley the best Thenardier, end of ARGUMENT. Thanks

  • It's amazing how they seem to get the loudest applause even though they're the bad characters....

  • matt lucas isnt an amazing singer but what he lacks in vocal talent he more than makes up for in terms of entertainment, he brings a great element of comedy to the role :)

  • I wonder why they didn't get alun armstrong? he did the 10th anniversary concert

  • LOL I prefer the previous Thernadier. Sure, this one puts into the character acting-wise, but as far as looking the part and sounding it, the other one fits the bill. To be fair, I like the best when this one goes "Here we go..." before listing the fixed prices!

  • I love Lucas, but Armstrong is my favourite Thernardier by far.

  • WOW...he's really, really good!!

  • If I was in charge of casting to the movie, well, Thenardier would probably change actors every scene.

  • This is amazing, people who think he's not the best, i genuinely think he fit this part perfectly :3

  • He is PHENOMENAL. I kind of would love it if he were in the movie. Not that I have anything against Geoffrey Rush. If cast, he'd also do really well.

  • Sorry but they need to close this show. This show that I love. After the 10th reunion presentation it should only be available on video only of the 10th. Can't so it any better. The 10th was masterpiece of unequalled performance.

  • @LtsSng1 I have seen both and I totally disagree

The stories the same yes, but two totally different shows

10/10 for both strengths and weaknesses in both

Alfie Bowe was stunning in this show no comparrision

  • Amazing, when i saw matt lucas in the title i thought not live up to expectations. BUT matt lucas can sing...who would believe it. Great performance.

  • Who knew?! He's brilliant!

  • Matt Lucas is EXCELLENT!!!! He gives an outstanding performance and makes the character his own.

  • @TheLadyMalfoy I agree and also disagree with you... i know that the last person that did it and him are different ppl, but he could have made this song(in particular) atleast alittle more realistic... I uinderstand he puts "his" character in it, but I personaly think he went a little over board

I didnt mean to affend anyone, i was just stating my opinion

P.S. he was very excellent because he made his best effort and put his whole mind and heart into it....:D

  • @marshmelloz13 No offense taken. :-) We may have different viewpoints, but I completely respect your opinion. You have a great apprectiation for an outstanding musical work, and I respect that.

And I thoroughly agree with you that Matt Lucas put his best effort, heart and mind into his performance.

    Cheers!

  • @TheLadyMalfoy He overacts like hell. To see outstanding, check out Alun Armstrong.

  • @ShowtuneSampler Yeah. I agree. He does a good job as Thernadier, but I still prefer Alun Armstrong and most of the 10th anniversary cast. I'm glad they got Jenny Galloway back though. She's so funny. XD

  • @TheLadyMalfoy Agreed. Loved him as Thenardier.

  • @TheLadyMalfoy He's very much in character, and, from a technical standpoint, his diction is IMPECCABLE.

  • I like Matt Lucas as The Master of the House but I just don't think he fits the character as well as others might =/ But all round a good job done I think! Jenny Galloway is by far the best Madame Thenardier! =)

  • remember he aint a musical actor fair play he did it justice

  • @45littlemiss He was brilliant and he took it so seriously. He would have been great in the film but I'm sure Sacha Baron Cohen will be superb.

  • @rees276 I'm really looking forward to seeing SBC in this role! I have a feeling he's gonna kill it!

  • Matt got the biggest applause from the london audience int he theatre, he brings a spark to the musical and is a joy to watch! Yes the character is abit different from the book, but so is Marius- in the book Marius doesn't care much for Eponine.

  • remember arguing on the internet is like getting a medal at the special olymipics ... even if you've won your still a retard

  • No offense to this guy's talent, but he makes Thénardier seem like a drunken idiot, which he definitely was NOT. The 10th Anniversary was more accurate...

  • @LuxrayShinx really i take it you never read the actual 1500 pages of story that was les mes... because

    Thenardier really was repulsive twat

  • @scrmngshts Actually, I HAVE read the ENTIRE story, and I did not say that Thénardier was not repulsive: However, Victor Hugo describes him as cunning and diabolical, not drunk (in fact, to the best of my memory (and I read the book very recently), Thénardier was NEVER actually intoxicated...) and stupid, which, frankly, is the impression given off by this actor. That is what I was referring to. Yes, Thénardier is repulse, but he is also dangerous and shrewd.

  • @scrmngshts This guy's acting is great, and his singing isn't half bad, but he just doesn't fit the character much here.

  • @LuxrayShinx He makes a perfect Thenardier. So shut the fuck up.

  • @notabeth You are certainly entitled to think that, but I am just as entitled to speak to the contrary. I say this with all benignity, because this is certainly nothing to get irascible about. Being totally objective, NO Thénardier in ANY musical can be considered perfect, because the musical dilutes the Thénardiers' evilness to make them more comical than abject; however, that said, I see no evidence of this Thénardier being "perfect"; perhaps you could enlighten me...?

  • @LuxrayShinx Because he's Matt Lucas.

  • @scrmngshts Excuse me, I meant to say "repulsive," not "repulse." Sorry about that.

  • Just watched the 10th anniversary performance. No offense but I think Matt is better. This character is supposed to be the 'comic relief' in the tragedy that is going on and Matt does that perfectly and Matt has a better singing voice

  • I have seen both the 10th anniversary video and this and I must say they're both brilliant in completely different ways. This one is gritty. He has put some amazing character into it and gives it his all. And I do believe that he's not going fast at all. It's the orchestration. But, you know, that's my two cents.

  • terrible

  • Is this a Sky production? They should all look at the 10th anniversary celebrations and then hang their heads in shame.

  • I really feel Matt is going too fast...

AND honestly, he sucked the original version that was sung by Alum Armstrong.

  • @simhui89 its not like he's just keeping in time with the orchestra then?

  • @someonecalleddean watch and see other comments and see the one performed by Alum Armstrong. Then YOU compare it - 'cos I think so too after watching Alum's original version (at the 10th Anniversary) - you will feel Alum's one is better.

Also, MOST and ALL songs from 25th are not in-line with orchestra, compared to the 10th.

  • Not as good as the original, but you can never expect someone to, they'd obviously use a different way of performing, still, a VERY good performance :D

  • @purdymcgurdy I can't say anything about the original london cast as i was not alive to see it, but if you are reffering to the 10th anniversary i will dissagree. Master of the house is not a song ment to show off vocal talents such as i dreamed a dream or im on my own. it is a song ment to put as much c harector into as possible. Alun Armstrong from the 10 anniversary edition had a voice that was almost too good for the role. It was still an exellent job but nothing compared to this one.

  • @bobohoover I disagree here. This seemed so rushed. This is more a character song but his character is so out of focus and all over the place. I am not convinced. Alun was in total character. But Matt seems to be like...i'll make the gesture here...check..the look here..check....seems to overstaged and overacted.

  • @chaksheba Exactly! Alum Armstrong had that beautiful and strong voice and he wasn't trying to look like one master of the house making gestures or that... Alum Armstrong WAS the master of the house and noone will be even close to his performance. It was simply amazing and perfect.

  • @Ateneeas In simple words, the 25th is all a mess.. (speaking in music language) the keys and notes and tempo are both high and low and the orchestra "tried to make it more fun" - which actually, shouldn't be the way. And they all have too many gestures. All of them. Except for Lea Salonga.

Lea excluded from the list because I've seen her play the role of Eponine in the 10th Anniversary, Dream Cast. Although she's a replacement then, she was just perfect for the show, even in the 25th.

  • @simhui89 Hello, I'm Ateneeas. You are totally right. Lea Salonga is amazing. I LOVED her in the 10th anniversary as Eponine, but, in my opinion, her role as Fantine wasn't so remarkable in the 25th anniversary.

But, still, Lea and Ramin were the ones who stood out.

  • we did les mis at school and i played Mme. Thenardier... xD

  • @SingOutToOurWorld I played Monsieur Thenardier.

  • He kind of reminds of the troll in Harry Potter 1.

    Great performance, strong vocals.

  • He was in Bridesmaids!! He is so funny :)

  • @kissxxmyxxconverse

He was also in Little Britain - His finest work.

  • @FISHGOMOO4321 i fucking new it was the little britten guy i fucking new it
