HI Jorma good song,I have a new song called So I Sing Some Sad Songs'Original, also If I could change the world,Original, all my songs are Original. Thanks GARY V.
Jorma and Jack are American treasures that, maybe as a result of trascending one definitive genre have not received the recognision due them. They are so diverse together.
I mean you can love Genesis and Hesitation blues and Trial by Fire-theres a pretty expansive sound.
Love this music. Through them I learned so much about the blues, people I would not have otherwise been exposed to.
One thing I love about this song is that the main verse rythm and melody are similar to a song Jefferson Airplane recorded for their 1st album but wasn't released on that album. It's called J.P.P. McStep B. Blues, written by the late great Skip Spence and features the late, great Jerry Garcia on it. It can be found on an album called "Early Flight", a compilation of outtakes over the years and released in 1974. Actually you can probably find it here on YouTube. Give it a listen!
@larrychapin Even though these things are always open to interpretation and often a mystery even to the author, my perspective is that it can means that life is a thing that 'we' as 'human beings' don't have any real control over, and that sometimes, especially in, or after a crisis or intense introspection, there is a seeing that it all just is and sort of happens of its' own destiny or process or whatever. Dig? Great question.
Clapton's acoustic blues is mostly Delta Blues. Jorma's acoustic blues is mostly "piedmont" style blues, sometimes called "east Coast" style. Love them both! Wonder if they have ever played together?
Never really a tuna fan in the "metal years" Americas choice excepted, but have always loved jorma's acoustic work solo and with tuna and this is certainly one of my favourites., strange thing though saw Kantners JS a few years ago and and saw the excellent Slick Aguilar covering Jorma's parts on the JA songs, what a difference. same songbut totally different feel, then got a boot of the JA reunion tour with Jorma covering Aguilar's parts on KBC's America, Different but both good.
Regardless of why he composed it, it is one of the most honest, beautiful (non-codependent) lyrical testaments of Love created in our generation(s). He "gets" the exquisite simplicity of what it's really about and presents it's all right there, simply, honestly, and eloquently in his unique way. It takes tremendous courage to bear your heart and soul in front of the world as he does with his music on it's own, but to share something that tender and real...is magnificent.
this song is about Jorma getting caught cheating on his wife...he told me backstage at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett NY...this is my favorite Jorma song ever...so poignant for all of us adulterers!!!
said* p.s heard the song once but liked it so much a learned some of the basic chords to the song a g d e know i can learn middle part well just did thanxz jorma for a great song go white rabbit
true story here ive been searchin for this song for years never knew the name i did know the artist. was on i tunes say jorma so i clicked looked for year aproxy first song bingo GENISIS 99 cents bought me some happiness tonight now im watching him live yeehaw............
Genesis is a pretty easy song to play, just capo the 2nd fret. I'm not saying I kill it, but if you have intermediate finger-picking ability, it's not that hard. Great song to break out around the campfire and chicks dig it!
i have to agree with mahatmacote. it took years before it crossed my mind to look this song up. when i was in my freshman year of college, way back in 1977, i heard this streaming through the shared wall from the room next door. it actually got me on my feet and over to the girl playing it to ask who was singing this. it has remained a favorite of mine low these many years. what a simple, sensual and hopeful song this is!
Jorma's music has always been incredible to me; he has managed to shape my life without ever having met me. I am forever grateful of his talent and the gift that he left for the rest of us!
Oh my. I haven't heard this song in 20 years at least and I have tears streaming down my face. One of the most beautiful songs ever, from one of the great guitar players of his time.
I listened to this song a lot when my wife was deathly ill. It reminded me of how much I really love her. She recovered, but I still ache when I hear it.
D.O.C. was one of the few shows ever on italian TV to feature great international artists, strictly live. Pat Metheny and David Sylvian were also guests. It was circa 1987.
I think it is likely 78 or 79 before Jorma cut his hair and went white orange or whatever other color for some time with Vital Parts and White Gland etc... before tuna got back together
Honestly, I really don't think you can compare Clapton to Jorma - two entirely different styles of playing and each guitarist is a master of his particular style. As it happens, my own tastes lean toward the acoustic finger picking Jorma does, but I can still appreciate Clapton's talent.
@lavenderjane1967 well, I will say it: Eric Clapton is the most AVERAGE guitar player there is in the list of "guitar slingers". Boring and average. Jimi hendrix blew him away back in '66 and did it with his eyes closed. It's nice to be first.... But "Wonderful Tonight".... YAWN!!!!
its okay to have your own " taste " in music - what isnt okay is to be brainwashed by the propaganda of a rithless industry who wants to sell you a cat for a hare : clapton has betrayed ALL that the blues stands for and has whitened it and smoothened it oot ad nauseam, so he wouls sell ZILLIONS of records to ignoramusses who keep believeing that THIS is REAL blues whilst it is only crippled plastic deaf dumb and blind
Am I the only one who thinks this tune and Landslide sound disturbingly similar? I'm suggesting that either one is derivative of the other (probably just coincidence), just that they're pretty much the same songs. Before you HT fans beat on me, let me add that I heard Genesis first and still like it the best.
no professors here - just a sane man with an INDEPENDENT judgement and unable to be tricked into c ommercially provoked delusions of " quality" where there isnt one : clapton himself admitted he was better in the seventies than now - to me he was almost always just a BORE and a burgeois. sorry.the sad thing is that entire generations grow up believing the lie : showed up their " brains " is this shallow clapton and they dont even KNOW who ALBERT COLLINS is or ELMORE JAMES
Thanks Bro, You have no idea how much this song means to me right now. You have just expressed my deepest emotions for me. God bless you abundantly my dear brother
First at my college auditorium 1978 then 50 shows at the lone star nyc.. the airplane renunion with H.T. at the break, the first beacon shows.. had to get tics for the 2nd show--after seeing the first-- then a long time.. moved to phoenix--they played at the venue at scottsdale-- irealized it was 18 years since i seen them-- this is the most touching love song THANK YOU-- and thanks Jorma..
So touching and dear to my heart and soul, Jorma's "Genesis" moves me to tears everytime I hear his poignant plea, and I cannot scarcely think of any other that approaches the heart and soul of this, Jorma's most beautiful love song.
I really can't express how your song moves me, Jorma. I feel a great wonder well up inside, like witnessing the first sunrise and the final curtain with all our hopes and dreams therein.
I completely love the whole Quah album (and all the extra tracks included on the cd), but this was the song that pulled me in, at first. So incredibly beautiful. And a nice performance in this video, too. Thanks for posting.
jorma is a magical guitar player, but the songs are so beautiful for another reason. they always reach me in a certain way, like no others. i believe Jorma is an honest and kind man. he is the "real deal". so kind of him to share...
this is a wonderful video. i'll watch it again just now.
in a way i think jorma has the most amazing finger pickinpicking, he is very unique--but ya cant throe them all into a Gumbo, and come out with the BESTEST!!!! LOL!He plays herre by me all the time at a place called the turning point, its in New York. I dont know if he lives here .but,he is scene around a bit ,as is Bill Murray and alot of other(cool people on the arts and film circuit) anyway BEAUTIFUL TUNE!!!!! TY for VID!
No kidding? The Turning Point in Piermont? I live not far from there in Rockleigh, just over the NY/NJ border; have eaten there often since the late 70's. God, haven't been to the TP in ages. I'd love to see Jorma there. My secret love since I was 16, hehe; such a kind and decent man it seems, so incredibly talented.
wow, grandissimo programma DOC, presentato da Gege' Telesforo, son la supervisione di Renzo Arbore! great song from his wonderful album Quah, one of his best.
By your user name, it appears your a Kinks fan too. Do you have any other user names on You Tube? I ask cause I've been writing to another Kinks person who also loves THIS song by Hot Fucking Jorma, and it's very coincidental..Anyways, I hope Ray and Dave can come together again. Life is too short. I agree that Quah was an unbelievable album that brings back such bittersweet memories for me. Especially this song. So glad to have found this great posting - God Save the Kinks!
hi jvaljean69, this is my only one username, started to see Youtube just 2 months ago. i'm not sure that Ray will play togeter again with his brother, because they are such different kind carachters and now Ray is doin' very well with his solo career. i really love the 2 albums that he recorded in the last 3 years, Other people lives and Working man Cafe', especially this last one, that sounds American more than any other else Ray's work. well, i'm very lucky, cause Hot Tuna they will play
Yes, I agree with you on the two Ray Davies solo albums being great, and the latest being maybe better, especially live. However, I still have hope that Dave will come around, as Ray wants to "do it again." As far as Hot Fucking Tuna, they seem to go on forever, just like their jams, and Jorma and Jack love playing together. Enjoy next Friday, and "Watch the North Wind Rise." Can I assume you live in Italy? They often play in NY and I miss them due to work, but hope to catch them nxt time
on next friday, along with JOHNNY WINTER,DICKEY BETTS, and many others at PISTOIA BLUES, a very important concert in the Italian summertime!i'll be there for sure, i can't wait to see Jorma and Jack Casady playn' together again. everytime i use to listen to Genesis,i wonder to climb an hill. thank you, hope to read you again.

I completely love the whole Quah album (and all the extra tracks included on the cd), but this was the song that pulled me in, at first. So incredibly beautiful. And a nice performance in this video, too. Thanks for posting.

I think Jorma looks at his best now in the 2000's, but I agree his music is timeless and still as emotional as the first time I heard him.

I never looked for this on youtube, simply because I wouldn't have thought it existed here!
I'm amazed it does, and it's one of the finest and most beautiful songs made.
I compare Jorma and Nick Drake, because of the compelling strength in their music, acoustic but holding the most power to move.

jorma is a magical guitar player, but the songs are so beautiful for another reason. they always reach me in a certain way, like no others. i believe Jorma is an honest and kind man. he is the "real deal". so kind of him to share...
this is a wonderful video. i'll watch it again just now.

THEKINKS08 3 years ago
