How in the world this group got their name I'll never know--not a "Statler" in the bunch and they aren't all brothers. But no matter--the Statlers are one of the best vocal groups ever! Can't beat their harmonies. This song--one of their best--also made it onto the pop charts. You don't hear groups like this anymore (unfortunately). Talent is no longer necessary to sell music. Pretty sad. Thanks for this upload!
Awesome video & a great song! Sadly, music like this is no longer made these days (Props to Quentin Tarantino!)Just pure garbage from no-talent nitwits who are more famous for their looks than having ANY musical talent or actually "writing!" their own songs. Songs & "artists" (HA HA) who will be forgotten in 5 years. It`s time for bands to reclaim the music charts (ANOTHER joke!) by actually recording music that you can crank up in your car or house 20 years from now & it`s STILL GREAT! LNGLVROK
Half a century later and this song is still awesome.
Isn't it interesting that one of the things that Youtube, ubiquitous entertainment nexus of the early 21st century, does really well is make it lightyears easier than it used to be for this generation to discover and enjoy the greatest elements of culture from their parents' and grandparents' generations, things they otherwise may have ridiculed and rejected just because it's "old"?
@Kalaban80DK You have great taste...I was only 8 when this song originally hit the charts in the mid 60's and was hooked...never heard a bass singer before and still love it!!!
@hachimiful Dude...please do NOT mention that useless prick's name on my video. This is about the only video on YouTube that has comments not mentioning his name...please keep it that way.
this song reminds me of my grandfather who passed away 1 month ago today, he used to play solitare all the time, and when he was in the hospital when i was very young he mentioned to me that he wasnt bored in the room at all cause he could "count the flowers on the wallpaper". he wasnt just my biologcal grandfather, he was my emotional father since he rasied me because my biological father was a piece of shit and all around dirtbag. Joe Mabie the greatest man to have every walked the earth
Any RHCP fans out there?? Just heard this song for the first time and it reminds me of Red Hot Chili Peppers' song called "Police Station" from their new album. Am i crazy or are they kinda similar??

Harold and Don Reid, along with Phil Balsley, performed together for many years, and even when Jimmy Fortune joined them later on, they still made due with what they had. This is one of my three favorite Statler Brothers songs, the other two being "Elizabeth," and "What We Love To Do." I also used to watch their show with my grandma. That's how I gained exposure to their music. Thanks for the memories guys!
One year at Christmas, one of my classes exchanged names for gift giving. The guy that got my name knew how much I loved this song so he bought the 45 for me. I LOVED IT!!!
@lonewolf110966 not watching Pulp Fiction it's like.. it's like. I don't even know but it's a must watch movie. same goes to "Goodfellas". "Blow". "Kill Bill" these movies are classic.
This is a bad sounding version of the Statler Brothers famous song (Yes famous look up who won the most awards) If you dislike it move on, at least try and hear a better version. But don`t thumbs down you know not what you are talking about.
These are the original Statler Brothers. Sadly the fellow on the guitar passed on and was replaced. And going left to right only number one and three are actually brothers. And none of the boys are named Statler. They took the name from a box of tissues they found in a motel room on on early tour.
I remember this as a kid. Its lyrics are extremely clever. Yes, it appears he has run into his 'ex-GF' who borke up with him, and yes he's getting over it. is this song about being locked up or about someone depressed over a break-up? personally i think locked up as i cant see an indication to a lost lover...if im wrong let me know, would be much apreciated.
Excellent tune. Real Country Music. It was written collaboratively as each one of of the guys in the band went out to drum up gigs. And it is, in part, about that wait time between gigs, trying to get work. The two guys singing lead are superb together and those 7th chords on that hollow-body guitar sound great. Thanks for posting. BTW, this is the Grand Ole Opry isn't it? Look at the class--ties even!

@MarkWilk19 Check out number of views of the newest Lady Gaga video and compare with this one. People are getting more stupid, so ppl create stupid music for stupid ppl. I srsly love songs like this, "Little green bag", "Stuck in the middle with you", "You never can tell" (Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction movies' music). And I'm kinda young, just 18 years old, so it could be a bit strange for ppl with my age because they rather listen to shit like Lady GaGa.
How in the world this group got their name I'll never know--not a "Statler" in the bunch and they aren't all brothers. But no matter--the Statlers are one of the best vocal groups ever! I remember this as a kid. Its lyrics are extremely clever. Yes, it appears he has run into his 'ex-GF' who borke up with him, and yes he's getting over it. Counting flowers on the wall, etc. shows he's working through it, with some dark humour, but is confident he'll get over it. Reminds me of the matter-of-fact acceptance of fate that makes the song 'King of the Road' similar in attitude. Life throws you curves...but you can get by, given time. And what a video! 39 people may have lived then...but they died now. Its a really negative vibe, and I ain't diggin it. 2k+ likes, now theres a hip vibe and I'm like totally diggin that scene. Peace all you cool cats and slick chics. I can rap this 60s tongue, and its totally cool.

This is an electric performance compared to the other recordings--even the quallty of the sound is broader and more dynamic!

Now why can't music today be as good as it was back then? I might be in my mid-twenties but I like a lot of older music better than the newer stuff.
