  • @pjam07pjam. the chord progression here is G-Em-A-D… and then G-Em-Em-Em-Em-Em-Em-etc. and C major. RHCP's song has the progression G-C-Em-Em--G-C-Em-Em-Am-Am-G-G-Am-Am repeated and then at some point there is Eb major.

There is quite some difference, in other words :)

  • Pulp Fiction

  • I remember sittin in the back of my old mans 59 ford fairlane , with this tune blazing on the AM radio!!!

  • How in the world this group got their name I'll never know--not a "Statler" in the bunch and they aren't all brothers. But no matter--the Statlers are one of the best vocal groups ever! Can't beat their harmonies. This song--one of their best--also made it onto the pop charts. You don't hear groups like this anymore (unfortunately). Talent is no longer necessary to sell music. Pretty sad. Thanks for this upload!

  • @wlhardy The name comes from Statler Tissue Co, a brand of tissue they noticed in a hotel room.

  • amazing :D

  • This song is the boooomb

  • Awesome video & a great song! Sadly, music like this is no longer made these days (Props to Quentin Tarantino!)Just pure garbage from no-talent nitwits who are more famous for their looks than having ANY musical talent or actually "writing!" their own songs. Songs & "artists" (HA HA) who will be forgotten in 5 years. It`s time for bands to reclaim the music charts (ANOTHER joke!) by actually recording music that you can crank up in your car or house 20 years from now & it`s STILL GREAT! LNGLVROK

  • AWESOME. Yehaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwww

  • Thumbs up if you grew up watching Captain Kangaroo!

  • Люблю эту песню!!!!

  • LOVE IT! LOVE SONG! NOBODY KNOWS IT, I SING IT AT KAREOKE REGULARLY! I COULD IDENTIFY...............LOL

  • Half a century later and this song is still awesome.

Isn't it interesting that one of the things that Youtube, ubiquitous entertainment nexus of the early 21st century, does really well is make it lightyears easier than it used to be for this generation to discover and enjoy the greatest elements of culture from their parents' and grandparents' generations, things they otherwise may have ridiculed and rejected just because it's "old"?

  • I had nothin' to do, then i took an arrow to the knee

  • chicken fried country

  • This is my kind of music, not modern junk trash called 'music'.

  • PULP FICTION :D

  • My dad showed me this when I was 7. I love this song:)

  • its a shame that there are so many haters out there hating lol

  • the faggot brothers: a nancyboy's diary

  • Harold and Don Reid, along with Phil Balsley, performed together for many years, and even when Jimmy Fortune joined them later on, they still made due with what they had. This is one of my three favorite Statler Brothers songs, the other two being "Elizabeth," and "What We Love To Do." I also used to watch their show with my grandma. That's how I gained exposure to their music. Thanks for the memories guys!

  • 51 people never heard of captain kangaroo

  • 1980's

  • Thank you for bringing this for us TEQTONYK ;)

  • I've loved the Statler's since I was a kid. And I have to say that I never watched Pulp Fiction. Thanks for posting this classic song.

  • @lonewolf110966 You should watch it, its very good movie.

You can watch it right here on youtube just type Pulp Fiction (Part 1).

  • @lonewolf110966 not watching Pulp Fiction it's like.. it's like. I don't even know but it's a must watch movie. same goes to "Goodfellas". "Blow". "Kill Bill" these movies are classic.

  • 48 people had Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta trying to kill them!

  • The best part was when the song says "It's good to see you, I must go, I know I look a fright." LOL

  • Caballeros

  • This is a bad sounding version of the Statler Brothers famous song (Yes famous look up who won the most awards) If you dislike it move on, at least try and hear a better version. But don`t thumbs down you know not what you are talking about.

  • Wow a great old track. So great harmony!

  • These are the original Statler Brothers. Sadly the fellow on the guitar passed on and was replaced. And going left to right only number one and three are actually brothers. And none of the boys are named Statler. They took the name from a box of tissues they found in a motel room on on early tour.

  • @CarlDuke

Only TWO of the Statler Brothers are actually brothers (Harold Reid and Don Reid). The rest you're right about.

    * Lew DeWitt ( Rhythm guitar, tenor vocals)

    * Phil Balsey

    * Don Reid

    * Harold Reid (Bass vocals)

  • @A1l2l2e2n4 didn't they come up with the name from a box of facial tissue?

  • @Mickey2206 They did? I never heard of Brothers Tissues!

  • Baddass

  • Was doing some converting of some Statler video from analog to digital today and Harold said this is the one that did it for them in 1965.

  • :) Oh i love this song!! this was my favorite song when i was 6. Im so thankful i was raised with real country music!:)

  • This is an old video, because Harold and Don are both clean shaven. I would guess mid to late 60's.

  • I remember this as a kid. Its lyrics are extremely clever. Yes, it appears he has run into his 'ex-GF' who borke up with him, and yes he's getting over it. Counting flowers on the wall, etc. shows he's working through it, with some dark humour, but is confident he'll get over it. Reminds me of the matter-of-fact acceptance of fate that makes the song 'King of the Road' similar in attitude. Life throws you curves...but you can get by, given time. And what a video! Talent, talent, talent.

  • @joe101364 i like king of the road reference! u got a trailer 4 sale or rent! , but this singer is nowhere near over it! ......tommy

  • although i can see how it could be interpreted as being depressed over a break-up. \/

  • is this song about being locked up or about someone depressed over a break-up? personally i think locked up as i cant see an indication to a lost lover...if im wrong let me know, would be much apreciated.

  • Imy mom always used to play this but i never remembered the name until now

  • Dylan Klebold used to listen to this.

  • 46 people got run over by Butch while he played this at his car.

  • I remember listeing to this on an 8-track.

  • Love it!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent tune. Real Country Music. It was written collaboratively as each one of of the guys in the band went out to drum up gigs. And it is, in part, about that wait time between gigs, trying to get work. The two guys singing lead are superb together and those 7th chords on that hollow-body guitar sound great. Thanks for posting. BTW, this is the Grand Ole Opry isn't it? Look at the class--ties even!

  • @Iwasateeninthe80s allways thought it was about the denial of loneliness,, thanks, u musta knew these guys..col tommy parch of atlanta

  • 44 people seem to have something against counting flowers on the wall.

  • I'll admit, I only know of this because of Pulp Fiction....

  • @WastelandGamer

And now you're a better person for having viewed this video. We all are. Well, except 48 of us. You 48 should feel bad. Go to your room & think about what you've done...heathens.

  • @TEQTONYK and count them flowers on your wall ! LOL

  • @TEQTONYK Nothing wrong with "heathens" those peeps are just douches. =P

  • @TEQTONYK 53 now, guess we need to go put flowers on their walls, prop their eyes open and make them count!

  • @TEQTONYK lmao HeaTheNs XD

  • @WastelandGamer

I'm at least glad you heard it in a movie. This is classic.

  • @WastelandGamer thats ok, its a good song anyway :)

  • @WastelandGamer there are a lot of great covers to this song

  • @WastelandGamer me too

  • @WastelandGamer No shame in that! It's how i discover half my music these days!

  • Thank you for putting this up! I love this song, it brings back so many good memories of the far away time when I was young.

  • I heard this song all the time when I was younger but I couldn't remember it at all until I heard it again

  • This song reminds me of Pulp Fiction.

  • my name is pitt, and 44 people's ass ain't talking their way out of this shit.

  • i think of Pulp Fiction when i hear this song.plus growing up listening to this group.

  • What does this mean?

    -shakes head-

  • I thank pulp Fiction & Tarrantino, I never heard this in the UK until bruce Willis bumped into Marcelus wallace in Fabians little Honda (Anyone who hasn't seen Pulp Fiction won't have a clue what i'm talking about #LOL )

Then in comes Marcellus: Mother &%$#er

  • @DCNY31279 The Statler Brothers once gang banged Minnie Pearle and put a price on her toe.

  • @BlankfrackCripledFUK - Minnie Pearle? Wasn't that woman "beavered" by Elvis Presley in his younger days?

  • Comment removed

  • This great song is still giving me chills... not tired of hearing.

  • "I got my gold watch back and killed my assassin. Everything went better then i expected.... tadaad tararaa.. WTF?!?!"

  • Pulp Fiction.

  • 39 people may have lived then...but they died now. Its a really negative vibe, and I ain't diggin it. 2k+ likes, now theres a hip vibe and I'm like totally diggin that scene. Peace all you cool cats and slick chics. I can rap this 60s tongue, and its totally cool.

  • Columbine
