  • Absolutely Fantastic,Love it,best band ever in my book,Alex and the band where in their own class. R.I.P Alex. Thanks for posting.

  • interesting to see Zal Cleminson without his make up on.

  • brilliant.

  • This is just superb!!!!!!!!!

    Fact. End of.

  • Alex radiated charisma, standing next to him you could feel this powerful charm and magnetism. He was a true showman and honestly loved his audience.

  • Excellent song but I had to turn it off halfway because of the poor sound quality :(

  • Brilliant - saw them 4 times, every one the dogs !

  • The brilliant S A H B

  • y didnt peel mention alex as a genius, weel who cares cheera

  • this is inasne dont bother lookin at anyfin else , maybe beefhret

  • went to see slade in 1973 in edinburgh. Nobody had heard of the support. It was Alex and he really was sensational. they could not get slade on because they did not want Alex to go. Biggest gubsmacking ive ever had. bought framrd the next day

  • non of the current generation of scottish college trained performance art wanks could come near this without just copying it! or being yet another tribute band! however, this band are well worth the tribute.

an under rat6ed important rock pillar/landmark

  • I intend to be cremated and as they send me away I want them to play this song.

  • A powerful statement against capital punishment during the festive season.

  • im sure SAHB played CELTIC PARK early 70s with THE WHO

  • @sneb1961

You're correct. Also on the bill were Widowmaker, The Outlaws and Streetwalkers. There may have been more.

BTW, Widowmaker featured future Rainbow bassist Bob Daisley, former (and also future) Hawkwind guitarist Huw-Lloyd Langton, former The Love Affair singer Steve Ellis and former Mott The Hoople guitarist Ariel Bender (Luther Grovesner). Drummer's name was Paul Nichols, I think.

  • @ScotRanger1960 . When Alex came on stage he " in the year 1700 or ten years earlier...." it didnt go down well with the parkhead crowd at the time

  • @ScotRanger1960 Yes That's Correct. Drummer's Name Was Paul Nicholls and He Had Played With Lindisfarne.

  • @cygnusxl5

Thanks for the info. Do you happen to know why Steve Ellis left the band after their debut album ?

Also I know Widowmaker appeared on the Old Grey Whistle Test and that the footage still exists coz I seen a few seconds of it on the Rainbow - Live In Munich DVD - Interview with Bob Daisley. Where can I find this footage ? Any ideas ?

  • @ScotRanger1960 It Looks Like He Left Because of Serious Physical Fighting Within The Band, or as He Put It 'Bad Chemistry'! If You Google 'Steve Ellis Singer' It Will Point You In The Right Direction For 'The Official Site Of Steve Ellis'. There's Lots of Information and Photos Here.

As For The Archive Film, I'll Have To Work On That. One Option May Be To Go To One Of The Torent Sites and See If Anyone's Uploaded Any Past Editions Of The OGWT.

Hope This Has Been Of Help To You.

  • @cygnusxl5 Thanks for the info.

  • Forget ya square sausage Alex was the best thing to come out of Scotland.Much better than a Glasgow kiss .True entertainer.RIP.

  • @gracieslick555 Well fuckin' said.

  • @gracieslick555

What about the totty scone ?

  • Xmas 2010 No1????????

  • Wonderful. Thank you for posting this. Must be the best track title, ever.

  • Died yesterday...

  • He'd be 75 today. RIP.

  • My brother bought me a ticket to go and see Alex (after SAHB) but my dad found out and wouldn't let me go. One of those massive regrets I'll take with me to the grave is that I never got the chance to see Alex live (thanks dad). At least I managed to see the band a few times afterwards...

RIP Alex... miss you loads and loads

  • one of the best singers 2 come out of scotland

  • Thanks for this, I've never seen it before :-)

That face, that voice. Man should have a statue!

  • the best xmas song ever!

  • @kevster1340

Oh god, Kev... that made me laugh out loud... nice one x

  • Excellent!

  • I would have hated to have been in a band that had to follow these cool fuckers on stage. How could you ever hope to up-stage them? Not a fucking cat in hells chance!

  • haha, for sure... can't imagine they were asked to open for a band very often.

  • @Punorss The Who tried and failed.

  • @Punorss

totally! i agree, and this is alex smacked off his face too! imagine how much worse it would be when he was straight!!!!!!! hee hee hee. cool

  • @Punorss To bad they never really got enough credit for all that they did for music. They are a fucking great band.

  • @Punorss Yeah I remember one band that had to do exactly that. They were called "The Who" as I recall.

  • whoah! some hair on peel

  • Scotland doesn't give a fuck and Alex Harvery proves it.

  • im 12 and i love this song XD

  • the guy was a star, and he truly was sensational

  • This is a great title when playing Charade's. S.A.H.B were a great stage act, I saw them on a number of times.

The new band are worth seeing (saw them in Jan 08).

  • Hail Vibrania!!

  • I saw them twice at Hull...when I was a lad. Just brilliant. They don't make em like this anymore. Thought I'd let the rest of the world know it.

  • My brother was on the security for those gigs, and I seem to remember him telling me that they had to hold some sort of plank up whilst Alex walked out into the audience...?

  • The premise of this song was one of the most original and humorous in the history of Rock n' Roll !!!

  • Alex was in a class of his own....as was his band....S E N S A T I O N A L

  • CELTIC #1

  • Not this year!

  • how good is this song :D

  • this has to be where i got some of my looney song idea's- classic luv'em

  • Well, they woz sensational, in it?

  • I... It... It's just... CLASS!!!

  • I feel inadequate trying to express how much SAHB and Ian and his Blockheads still mean to me - I'm 66 in 4 weeks. You couldn't buy this sort of talent today. RIP those who have left us less rich.

  • Happy (belated?) 66th Birthday!! I know where you're coming from. Two one-of-a-kinds. As impressive today as they were when they first performed.

  • bertbretherton,

    I'm 51 and I couldn't agree with you more.

  • Why are most of the bands nowadays so cluless? This is "Sensational"

  • One of Scotlands GREATS..a real showman

    RIP Alex

  • Yep first for me as well - never seen Zal like this. What a band - what memories!

  • No alex harvey, no Ian Dury and a very different Bon Scott. Genius - so influential to those 'in the know' at the time

  • it strikes me that Ian Dury must have been aware of SAHB.

  • one of my all time favourite sahb songs- my 12 yr old daughter has it as a ringtone much to the dismay of her mother!!

  • alex harvey and john peel two great men both sadley missed

  • Fantastic stuff!!! To see more of Zal without make up search for Nazareth clips...

  • Yeah Zal's face!!!! amazing! ALEX LIVES

  • must be an early film clip of sahb.its great of course.first time I've heard of the song.first time i've seen zal without makeup.

  • Fantastic.......never been another band like them.

  • was in Reading too and saw him many times after, anybody clips from any bands in the 70ies from Reading Festival?

  • Scotlands finest. SAHB at Reading Festival 1974. Greatest band I ever saw, opening number was the Faith Healer just as it was getting dark. I will never forget it.

    Rob Saints58.

  • I was there that day. I think Status Quo and the Faces were on as well. SAHB were great originals for sure.Kinda reminds me of U2 circa 1991 Achtung Baby with the theatrics etc.

  • Fuckin' beautiful!Love it.
