went to see slade in 1973 in edinburgh. Nobody had heard of the support. It was Alex and he really was sensational. they could not get slade on because they did not want Alex to go. Biggest gubsmacking ive ever had. bought framrd the next day

You're correct. Also on the bill were Widowmaker, The Outlaws and Streetwalkers. There may have been more.

BTW, Widowmaker featured future Rainbow bassist Bob Daisley, former (and also future) Hawkwind guitarist Huw-Lloyd Langton, former The Love Affair singer Steve Ellis and former Mott The Hoople guitarist Ariel Bender (Luther Grovesner). Drummer's name was Paul Nichols, I think.

My brother bought me a ticket to go and see Alex (after SAHB) but my dad found out and wouldn't let me go. One of those massive regrets I'll take with me to the grave is that I never got the chance to see Alex live (thanks dad). At least I managed to see the band a few times afterwards...

Scotlands finest. SAHB at Reading Festival 1974. Greatest band I ever saw, opening number was the Faith Healer just as it was getting dark. I will never forget it.
