I usually feed them every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Make sure the crop is empty or close to empty before feeding. The crop is right below the neck. You will see it fill up as you feed.
you totally just saved the life of the baby mourning bird I got this morning. I found it under my couch after chasing the cat off of it. As I would love to set it back where it came from I have no idea where that is. So looks like I will rehab it for the next cpl weeks or so. @DAGTowlie i am sorry for those who have such little appreciation for the life of another. a life is a life, simple as that. we confuse ourselves all the time in our superiority, however, in the big scheme of things we are just as small & inflict suffering on smaller things because they cannot do so as easily. all pain is the same & no human suffers more or feels more than another vertebral life. hunting has a SEASON, is subj to regulations & someone who cares so much is more beautiful for it.
Lillydulac, I am sure you mean well. However while I agree that these little babies should be left to be taken care of by the moms, there are times when a problem occurs. In this case, since I am a rehabber, and have been caring for animals both in zoos, and the wild, this little guy came into my care from a little boy who found it on the street. I educated him to the fact that he should watch before he picks it up. and also explained the facts & that he did a good thing by caring.
@DAGTowlie if you are all about shooting doves then why the heck did you click on feeding a baby dove anyway.. no instead of posting dung like that why dont you go impress one of your buddies about how you shoot doves all day long
@DAGTowlie That's funny did you really just say the life of a human is worth more than that of a dove? That's actually pretty hilarius because I've never seen nor heard of a person being in a kill or be killed situation with a dove. lmao.
this baby girldove is so cute!!!!!!!!!! i had a baby dove that i found. the mother left it because it was hurt and sick. 3 days later it died . i was sad. she was so cute

I feed them powdered baby bird formula sold for seed eaters. sometimes I put a little yogurt in it also. He drinks out of a pet nurser bottle with a size small finger kot attached. I put a tiny slit in it, just enough to stick his beak in and voila! he thinks he drinking from mom!

Kaytee baby bird formula. Get it at the pet bird section in a pet shop.
ensure is not a good diet, they don't drink milk of any kind.
