Cannot really blame them, that style of shoe is more of a moccosin than a shoe. It isn't because it is "italian" it is because the type of construction is designed to be light, thin, and flexible.
If you look at a shoe and the sole is stitched up into the sole of the shoe, or it is just glued together then it is not a shoe meant to be repaired.
