yes i do. Everytime you export a video, you render it. Youtube renders videos. You can call it conversion or whatever, but it is still rendering.
And yes, this was shot in 4:3 with a matte to make it 16:9, but the video was still rendered in 4:3 and NOT in 16:9. That's why it is not filling up the screen here.
I know what i am talking about since i am majoring in film...
@cptmx OH EXCUSE FUCKING ME that I didn't know when youtube changed to 16:9. I am humbly sorry that I fail to memorize the exact date of this event so i could cross refference it with your submission date. Jesus fucking christ.
@ooganblat Yeah really. Your face. And why does it make you laugh? Because you realize you can't get a degree in 3D Visual Arts and Cinematography? Now go take your retarded failed ass somewhere else. Also.. you didn't reply to my last question. What am I denying? Guess someone needs to get a couple of things straight.
well i like to control the shutterspeed mannually, so i turned the knob to "tv" and when you hit the menu button and go under, i think its camera setup or record setting-something. and you'll see the time interval feature. i set it so that it takes a picture every 30 seconds and record length of .5 seconds.
that was a terrible remake of film flaring. but basically i used keyframes for the color levels. find the color levels effect and brightness and contrast and edit them. i boosted the red.
Looks great. I have a question though: to master color correction so well, did you just fuck around with the settings in Sony Vegas until you got a satisfying result or did you follow a tutorial or something? I'd really like to know how you got such a stunning cinematography.
in post. i dont change the aspect, just like you said: i cropped it. (there is extra black on the top and bottom, cutting off a bit of the original footage). in order to make your footage look anamorphic, you have to know what you're doing before you start shooting..
all you really need to do is zoom out a bit so that you still get enough headroom when you crop it in your editor: i'll get back to you in a few minutes with a video explaining it
i was in new mexico, and the lightning was very visible that night, and it didnt strike the ground, it only ran accross the sky repetatively for several hours.
i just set up the camera and filmed out the hotel window
Great soundtrack. :)

what is the difference between a grip handle and a Steadicam?. Which is better for me for short films? I have a Canon Vixia HG21.
Between Opteka X-GRIP and Manfrotto 585 ModoSteady? which do you recommend for short films?

ortixx 2 years ago
i posted this before youtube went all widescreen
cptmx 2 years ago 17
that's not rendering either sir. some decent work here cptmx. Have you done any narrative work?
darkfox404 2 years ago
@ortixx rendering!? Do you know what you are talking about? This was obviously shot at 4:3 and then cropped using a matte to make it 16:9

you're both retarded, it was shot in 16:9 and given a 2:39:1 anamporphic crop, then rendered to 4:3 before youtube had widescreen feature.
cptmx 1 year ago
No you ARE retarded. Re-read my comment. U letterboxed it in a 4:3 vid... aka rendered in 4:3 -__- who is the retard now?
ortixx 1 year ago
rendered in 4:3 when youtube was still 4:3. then youtube upgraded to 16:9 while this video was already posted.
good luck in film school, kid.
cptmx 1 year ago 22
i have been saying that all the time. You later commented that you submitted this before youtube was 16:9 so my bad.

great footage had a nice feel to it, how do you slow down the footage? like the scene with the football players?
MindChamber001 3 years ago
this isnt a 16:9 crop?
QuestionMarkCo 3 years ago
no. the original footage is in 16:9. then i cropped it so that the ratio was similar to anamorphic
cptmx 3 years ago
did you shoot in time lapse or edit it in?
RedLetterDayFilms 3 years ago
what do you mean?
some of the shots were done with my camera's time lapse feature. others, the camera was just rolling
cptmx 3 years ago
what do you have the xl2 set to to get that time lapse.?
RedLetterDayFilms 3 years ago
well i like to control the shutterspeed mannually, so i turned the knob to "tv" and when you hit the menu button and go under, i think its camera setup or record setting-something. and you'll see the time interval feature. i set it so that it takes a picture every 30 seconds and record length of .5 seconds.
cptmx 3 years ago
Yea what settings did you use for the time lapse feature
Syphon509 3 years ago
some of those i just left the camera running, but if i use the interval time i always shoot every 30 sec for 0.5 seconds

that was a terrible remake of film flaring. but basically i used keyframes for the color levels. find the color levels effect and brightness and contrast and edit them. i boosted the red.

it can still be used as a subtle addition though, thats why I like it.

cptmx 3 years ago
how did you crop it to 16:9 without distortion?
DJEDI296 3 years ago
in post. i dont change the aspect, just like you said: i cropped it. (there is extra black on the top and bottom, cutting off a bit of the original footage). in order to make your footage look anamorphic, you have to know what you're doing before you start shooting..

i must ask what ur Custom Preset settings were and the music behind the video, this is GENIUS
michaelkrumlauf 4 years ago
on the camera its all normal settings, the color correction is what helped alot. the raw footage looks like crap compared to this.
i used sony vegas 6.0 for the color correction, however and its only for pc
