Isn't this situation what you wanted? Living on debt. Filling your home with useless crap? Just for the sake of jobs and short fun? You are slaves of your own demands. If you "have" something, you are actually becoming the slave of it. Try to get more time instead of things. Yóur society is defined about what one has, not what one is. It would be good for most of you to read a few books about this matter instead of watching the superbowl and tv-ads,
family of four? this is just common sense, if u can barely afford u and ur spouse then guess what???! dont have kids! if u dont need a car to work? get rid of it? if u need two jobs to make ends meet? then get a second job! if drink and smoke? then quit! that shits expensive! cut back on unnecessary bills! if u dont need get rid of it! did they research how many of these people are on drugs? did they ask them if they qualify to join the military?
Drinking, smoking, and drugs? Most of these people do not have the education to know what the addictive powers of alcohol and cigarettes until AFTER they start. Then, its too late. Quitting cold turkey is EXTREMELY difficult. Once you're in addiction, its difficult to break it without incurring extra charges (smoking patches, rehab, etc.)
I do not plan to have children, I can get by just fine on a bike, never had nor wanted a car. I do not smoke or consume alcohol, never did. My so-called lower-class lifestyle is necessitated by not being able to afford better. My choice of transportation is necessitated by the lack of bus service at night, high gas prices, and car payments that I could not really afford. I just happen to enjoy biking, and could not imagine myself doing otherwise.

Minorities do make up the majority of those in poverty, but this includes other minorities besides African-Americans. It's about 12% of ALL Americans, and 21% of ALL children in poverty.
America's standard of living is supported by debts to countries like China and Japan. Without those nations, many more Americans would fall into poverty.
60 mln Americans are way below line of poverty!!!!!!
the government is playing GOD in Iraq & Afghanistan.

"Family of four" is just statistics. For one person, $5000 a year is still *not* enough. If they are earning $5000/yr working one job
Note: The 12 million is those living in EXTREME poverty. There are many, many, many more who live under the poverty line.
Military? Many of those in extreme poverty are veterans who were injured/disabled in combat, many are disabled in SOME way and thus unfit for combat.
