For all the championships, the victories, the poles, the fastest laps, the hero worship in his home country...this is my absolute favourite memory of Ayrton Senna, the one by which he should truly be defined. Ayrton was both controversial and caring in equal measure, but so are most great men. It's what defines them.
@kallo182 I think you have completely missed the point about Senna. He could not do anything for show, because it was not in his nature to be that calculated. Everything he said or did came from emotion. Passion like that can make you great man person but it can also make you flawed.
@kallo182 I think you have completely missed the point about Senna. He did not do anything for show, it was not in his nature to be that calculated. Everything he said or did came from emotion. That can make you great man but also a flawed man.
this clip does not show why he would be the best. years before that people helped other drivers who crashed. Are they also the greatest ever? And stop saying schumacher would never have done this bla bla. Schumacher never needed to put his life, and the life of others in danger because there was no severe crash that needed a driver to stop. There were marshalls for that sort of things.
Eddie Irvine, at spa 2001, helped out the marshalls when he and Burti had an accident, so I don't think it's fair to say Senna was amazing just because he was the only one to help, of course Senna was outstanding as a racer, and sadly missed, but given the circumstances, all the drivers in F1 would help their fellow drivers, no matter how intense the rivalry was!
@sargatanas88 and why not compare Irvine with Senna? They both went to help in other persons time of need. Its not like Senna never caused a crash is it?
Senna saved his life. Comas passed out with tge engine still running and his foot on the throttle wide open. Senna shut down the car before a fire potentially happened.
@Lolavsluigi he stopped in the biddle of an active track (leaving his car in the middle of the track) to help the guy. his hear was in the right place, but u realise he put the other drivers and himself at risk?
@rahulpower He put his life in danger for saving another driver life... i think that he's not idiot, he only tries to do what he thought that was correct, and follow his convictions made him even bigger as person was he was as driver... RIP Ayrton
@Lolavsluigi Shumacher was directly behind Senna when Senna crashed, it was so fast that Shumacher would have been past and around the corner before he had realised how bad it was, by the time he would have stopped he would have been too far away to actually get to Senna's car before any of the marshalls and eventually medics,
I don't see why any video of Senna has to be used as an example of how 'bad' Shumacher was/is, Senna was a fantastic, supreme talent but was not above dirty tactics!!!
@Lolavsluigi to be fair to Schumacher, and I very very rarely am, he was past Senna by the time Senna hit the wall. had basically no idea what was happening behind.
@hsieh811 Well pointed, but Senna saved Comas' life by quickly shutting off the engine. He didn't try to do some medic job. Eric Comas was passed out but his foot was still on the accelerator pumping gas. F1 motors working at max RPM get overheated very very quickly and a explosion is just a matter of seconds.

Now we know why Comas went to the aid of Ayrton in 1994. to try and see if he could repay Ayrton for saving his life he defied the red flags and left pit lane and drove to where Ayrton was. you all rember the red f1 car turning up some 10 mins after the crash there was a great freindship between them after what Ayrton did for Comas R.I.P AYRTON you are still in our harts F1 will never be as good with out you in and around Paddock
im sorry but what you say may be a nice point but aside from that, unless you can prove it, what you just said sounds like a smelly old pile of bullshit.
That's why Senna will always be the greatest driver. Not because of his success, his championships, his pole positions... but because he competed 110% and cared for his opponents at the same time.
Agree...and i don't like people already comparing Hamilton with Senna since the very beginning...i just could not understand it. Biased because of the yellow helmet maybe?
Senna could be absoutely ruthless on the race track.
It is extraordinary that he could so quickly switch off that aspect of his personality and show real human concern for Comas' well-being and assist him in this fashion.
what a man he was!!
truly inspiring, very exciting and entertaining.....

@PaynieLaFleur Irvine felt guilty for the accident as he closed the door to Burti so the two cars touched. Eddie Irvine is not to compare with Senna.
