  • How long did it take you to learn this song?

  • badass! love it man ;)

    Im learning this song too

  • dude this is awsm

  • nice sweeping dude :D i'm just learn the song xD

  • we share the same guitar my friend.

  • @jtz0 i effin love this guitar...i beats the piss out of my schecter...but my strat beats the piss out of both of them

  • @tuckerchicken haha yeah. this has inspired me to practice this song a lot more. how do you find the action? did you lower it from the factory setting? mine seems a bit high.

  • @jtz0 i actually had this one professionally set up by that same guy who works on carrie underwood's guitars. he owns a shop in newnan, ga which is about 45 mins from where i live...he works on all my guitars except my strat

  • man I don't know how to get that type of distortion Oh, Sleeper uses.... how do you get this tone?

  • @TheMokomi300 honesty this wasnt even close...this vid was played on a solid state marshall mg series amp , def not something you want to use for metal...but i think i may have been using a boss mt-2 to boost my gain but i cant be sure since this was so long ago. i do know however that on this record they recorded using a bogner uberschall head thru a mesa 4X12. and son of the morning was recorded with an old 5150 thru the same cab

  • @tuckerchicken I think it sounds pretty close. I've been trying to fish out their tone, with little succes... it really sounds like slightly overdriven or twangy with allot of gain on top and I don't know any band that uses that kind of tone. Thanks for the gear info by the way! draws me ever closer into getting that 5150.

  • @TheMokomi300 i actually play thru a bogner alchemist now so if you watch some of my more recent videos (maybe we are the archers and charlatans host) the tone is even closer. im not a big fan of 5150 because they only have one sound; heavy. my bogner can do anything just about everything from oh sleeper the stevie ray vaugn. thats definitely something to consider when buying an amp.

  • The arpeggo is soo hard not very many people can do it I think you did a good job!!!! I aplaud you!

  • nice cover dude!

  • Where's Waldo and his guitar? Lol, nice cover.

  • woo hooo way to go mason haha

  • rest your guitar on your other leg and youll find the sweeps higher up easier.. NICE JOB tho kid

  • sweet guitar

  • too fast

  • you are amazing dude...i just learned the 2nd guitar part to this song ... now to learn the 1st lol

  • would it be too much to ask you to tab this out for me? i cant find a reliable tab so far

  • go to ultimate guitar...version 4 of the tab is the closest ...i dont write or use tabs

  • k thanks

  • i use that one, but for basss...

and actually bass is harder than 2nd guitar, ive tried both

  • did u use tabs?

  • i dont use tabs

  • most people don't. i wish i could learn by ear but i can't. tabs suck

  • yeah they do...once you start writing and getting a feel for where the notes are on the fretboard it gets easier to pick out riffs...but i only write in standard and drop d so drop c and below gets tricky

  • i wish i was better at it guess i should just pay attention more and i will get it eventually

  • bad ass!

    pro!

  • wen u were sweeping picking my mouth was open like HOLY FUCK n i started drueling man ur fucking good!

  • wow man! pretty tight! can you tell me the tuning you're in? i'll give it a shot!

  • drop c

  • Lol, i like the head shake when that end riff comes up. Awesome cover dude!

  • Wow........Sick

  • LEGIT

  • bad ass man

  • meh..

  • you guys can now stop arguing like little kindergarden girls and watch the amazing cover right up there ^

  • lol... there are no rules in music? right

  • there is theory :P mainly, its what sounds good to YOU, not what others think :D

  • dude these sweepicking rules:B

  • awesome job, nice sweeps

  • Yes, they are in Drop C. Now stop fighting.

  • Alright man, i wasn't trying to offend you or anything. I'm just saying the G# is pretty prominent in Oh, sleeper songs. If you tune to CGCFG#D , and hear the strummed chord at the end of this intro, the notes are FG#D. but hey, If you cant hear it, your ear probably needs a bit more training. Instead of basing your knowledge of songs on tabs, LISTEN to them. ya know? but I'd be glad to post a vid or two once I get a better memory card for my camera.

  • That doesn't change the fact you are playing the intro to this song COMPLETELY wrong. If you LISTEN you can clearly hear the G# at the end of this intro. Also,If you listen to the intro to To Flagship, or riffs from Charlatans Host, you can CLEARLY hear pull-offs from the 12th fret to the open string on the G# string. If you took any lesson from Shane he probably dumbbed it down for you.

  • theres no point in arguing about this...i personally dont hear the G# in either song...i tried messing around with it on guitar and it just sounds out of key...im not saying you wrong...but i just dont hear it...you should do a video of the song your way so i can hear what you hear

  • Well, either way the song can be played just as easy both ways. I, for one, stand by CGCFG#D because of its obvious use ins songs like "To Flagship" and "charlatans host." If you disagree, that's fine i have no real problem with it. Do you have guitar pro? I have this whole song transcribed the way I play it and I'd love to show you and get your opinion on it. Hopefully it will sway you a bit more to my side of thinking.

  • yeah i have it...and ill be with shane and the guys later this month so ill run it by them...i know for a fact that the new record is completely in drop d

  • I'll give you a link for the file then. I can't wait for the new album!

  • There is no such tuning as CGCFG#D. You can't just arbitrarily change one string of a tuning to make it more convenient.

    Plus in To Flagship there is a G on the G string. It's 15 F-string, 13 G-string, 14 F-string, 13 G-string, 12 G-string.

You need to stop talking about who needs ear training and who doesn't know anything about whatever. You obviously don't know anything about guitar if you think you can just change one string of a tuning to make it easier for you.

  • HAHA! It's called a custom tuning. There are no rules on tuning a guitar. MUSIC has no rules. If you listen to To Flagship, it's obviously pulled off from the 12th fret to the open string, if you play it your way the tone sounds wrong.

The tuning itself is quite haunting, I write my material in it myself. Since you drop down the 5th string down a minor 2nd, every string is a note in the key of c minor.

  • Actually music does have rules. If music has no rules why don't we just play everything with horribly out of tune guitars or just make our own tunings so it's impossible to play normal chords.

Do me a favor and listen to To Flagship right now. If you tell you think it's just pull-offs on an open G# then you will be declared an idiot. Can you tell me what you play when normally in Drop C you play 15 and 12 on the low C? Do you just make the low C a G# and play it there?

  • Just go to ultimate guitar and search up Hangar_18, look up my vices like vipers tab. I'll even tab out Charlatans host and to flagship if it means broadening your horizons and opening up your ears.

  • Nice emo pics dude. You look really.........depressed. Nice.

Anyways, is that tab a joke? I stopped listen after the intro. That's not even close to being right. The first two sweep patterns are wrong. I like how your "custom tuning" makes things a lot harder for you.

Please tab out To Flaship so I can laugh at how wrong it will be.

  • the sweeps are 100% correct, everything is 100% down to ever drum hit. And calling me emo? VERY cliche mr. bullet for my valentine.

  • Dude I'm laughing so hard at you right now. Thanks for making my day.

  • But of course I expect you to say "UR GAY AND YOUR RONG AND YOU LOOK GAY HURP DURP" or something along those lines. Ahh, how scarce intelligence is these days. If you're going to argue about how wrong i am, at least back up whatever you have to say with whatever scrap of musical knowledge you think you may have. Not use dumb freshman insults.Study theory, be open to all music, broaden your horizons. You, my friend, are the ignorant one. cheers.

  • HA! you've been playing guitar since december 07?! jesus christ. I've been playing since April 04. I'm wasting my time on a total n00b! ahahahaha oh my god. stick to power chords kid, lol. You should know your place than to argue with guitarists 5 times your caliber. hahahaha wow, now that TRULY made me laugh. i'm sorry but now i really can't take you seriously.

  • G# -12-0-11-0-0-12-0-11-0-0-

Is that how you play it master of guitar and music theory?

You're insulting me now but I guarantee you I will be a much better guitarist than you will ever be in 2 years.

  • no, that's not how you play it. haha shouldn't you be learning like, power chords or something? Do you even know what intervals a power chord consists of? hahaha

  • I know how to play it. What's with the power chords insult.

You're saying pull-offs on the G# string which is just Drop C which one string changed so it makes things more fun for you. Tell me how to play it then. I want to know what you think.

  • 12th fret g# string, pull off to the open G# string, 11th fret of g# string, 13 on the G(5th string), and 12 on the G string.

It rolls off the fingers quite nicely. and sounds identical in terms of tone.

  • Why play the same note in different spots? That is harder than how you're actually supposed to be playing it. How bout instead of changing everything play it in Drop C and play 13 on the G-string instead of a pull-off on an open G#. It just makes no sense why you would want to change the tuning like that. Do you really think Oh, Sleeper would use that tuning?

Also the "pull-off note" is obviously picked. You can tell it is picked when you slow the song down.

  • Because i'm a genuine guitar player, who doesn't cut corners. it isn't on the g string, because the note isnt that dense. If it were on the G string, the note would sound much thicker, and less "clear."

and yes, i do think they would use it, because shane blay is a genius, who also doesn't cut corners. We can argue this all day, some guy who picked up a guitar a year and a half ago that plays bfmv is not going to change any thoughts pertaining to one of my favorite bands.

  • Slow the song down and listen to the just the bass notes on the G-string. They are the exact same density. It's not cutting corners it's just common sense. For a guy who's been playing for a year and a half, I have a lot more sense than you. You need to stop thinking you're such a genius because you're not. What does the fact that I (used to) play bfmv have anything to do with this? Just slow the song down and listen to the two G#'s. They are exactly the same.

  • anybody with ears can tell you that slowing a song down turns the tone to complete shit.

And I'm not a genius, i'm just better than you.

Guitar playing isn't about "common sense"

otherwise there wouldnt be much creativity.

  • Actually no it doesn't. It slows the tempo of the song therefore making it easier to distinguish such things as density and pitch.

I could care less if you're better than me at guitar. I would hope that you're better than me if you've been playing for four years.

  • Five years* and it doesn't make it easier, it slows down the song, making the notes more audible. It effects the tone horribly, since it isn't being played at the intended speed.

  • "common sense" wont take you very far. you'll plateau eventually, and your common sense will take you nowhere but in a straight line.

  • I think I'm gonna tune my guitar to FBD#ANZ. That's a custom tuning right?

  • There aren't any rules in music, you fail to grasp that concept. It's all about creativity. If you can write a song in FBD#ANZ, then more power to ya. You'll probably be praised for being creative.

  • How about I play the guitar with drum sticks. That's creative. I will be praised for that right?

Slowing the song down does absolutely nothing to the notes or the tone. It just makes it easier to distinguish between the notes.

  • jesus fucking christ. do you even know what music is? Honestly you're putting up the stupidest fucking argument I've ever fucking been associated with.

WHEN YOU SLOW DOWN SOMETHING, THE TONE AND PITCH WILL BE AFFECTED

it won't "enhance" it or whatever bullshit you're trying to say.

But whatever, I'm through arguing with such an idiot.

In the meantime, learn what music is and it's purpose.

I'm smarter than you, and I'm a better musician than you will ever hope to concept.

  • OK, you keep thinking that. By the arguement you're putting up here I know you're not smarter than me.

It was fun seeing how ridiculous someone can act when they think they are the best at everything.

BTW, can't wait to see some of your videos (if you ever make some). Also make sure to send those tabs my way.

  • you think music has rules, I do not.

This is what makes me superior.

    Enjoy your stupidity.

  • i really appreciate the comments and all but holy shit guys...give it a rest...

i talked to shane about it when oh sleeper came through town on scream the prayer..straight up drop c bro...live and in recording (new record is drop d)...so whatever...not saying your wrong dude...maybe there is a G#...its just not an open string...but if the custom tuning sounds good to you then use it...just stop fighting...arguing over one note and throwing emo jokes around just makes both of you look immature

  • THANK YOU!

  • ahaha so when I make an insult all of a sudden i strike a nerve? this whole time you were making neanderthal minded-derived insults.

I was simply proving your lack of knowledge musically, while simultaneously proving my superiority

  • excuse me, I meant 2nd string. You can argue all you want. I'm not "making it easier" on myself, I am playing it the way it sounds to my ear.

And with 8 years of guitar playing and 3 years of theory classes, I'm pretty sure i know a thing or two. I'll probably end up just posting a video or two to prove you nimrods wrong.

But no, you dipshits will be like THATS NOT WUT THA TABZ SAY SO ITS WRNG.

Do you want the tab for vices like vipers i wrote? Do you want to question my ear?

  • You've been playing for 8 years and you still think you can change one note of a tuning just to play a pull-off which BTW is wrong.

Your ears must be terrible if you can't hear a simple G after the "open G#".

FWI, I tab almost single bit of music I play on my own by ear. I don't look at any UG tabs.

I would love to see your tab and your videos so I can laugh at them. And to answer your last question yes I'm questioning your ear.

  • excuse me, 5 years.

and just listen man, pull off from any string from the 12th fret, listen to the natural harmonic-type sound it has. THAT's the tone you hear in Charlatans host and To Flagship.

And hitting a G note after a G# creates a minor 2nd(or minor 9th, whichever) interval, which is VERY dissonant, too dissonant to create that harmonic type sound. "Laughing at my videos and tabs?" Very immature. and your username is bfmv640? dear god, you can't be older than 15.

  • You putting up a terrible arguement here. It was fun seeing your ignorance but I have to go somewhere so I'm done arguing.

BTW I made that username 2 years ago and I'm 16.

    Zackfacee? Emo pictures? I'm immature?

  • Ahh, but i believe I'm putting up a very valid argument. Is it because you can't understand my music terminology that my argument is invalid? Does considering an alternate tuning make me ignorant? I believe it makes me more open-minding. If anything, you're putting up THE worst argument i've ever seen. You aren't even backing up your case! All you're doing is saying you're laughing at my pictures and calling me emo. VERY impressive, bravo. You have quite a bit to learn about music, kid.

  • LISTEN to the song man. You'll find that the intro is really played completely different. You might also find that oh, sleeper tune their guitars to CGCFG#D. Which makes much more sense when you listen to the song and any other song on the album for that fact. some riffs are wrong, but oh well. Good effort.

  • they tune drop c...period...ive taken a couple lessons from shane blay who has shown me several riffs from their different songs...i know my sweeping and intro (when the screaming starts) is wrong on here as shane has corrected for me after seeing this video...and the verse riff has the wrong fingering but its the same notes...

  • that was really good dude. i would think you have been playing for over 2 years. i play upside down but ive been playing for 5 years and i cant completely nail this song. Im jealous lol

  • You should definately make a tab of this. All the tabs I've found so far have been inaccurate.

10 of 10 man, keep it up!

  • good job dude. i just started really practicing guitar after a few years of halfassing and this song is on the top of my hit list lol

  • How do you sweep so well? How long have you been playing guitar?

  • lots of time practicing with a metronome...and i had been playing just over 2 years in this video...ive been playing about 3 now

  • dayuum! hahai cant sweep for crap i gotta practice that im to lazy though hah

  • it takes a lot of practice...my sweeps on this song are actually wrong...theyre really close though...i took lessons from oh sleepers guitarist last week and he showed me the correct patterns

  • The other covers for this songs are awful compared to this. The sweep picking sets you so far ahead of everyone else

  • thanks man...that means a lot

  • HERO!

  • dont have any tabs...didnt use tabs...

  • Not gunna lie, i thought this would be shit..... but you played it preety damn perfect!

    good job xD

  • thanks man...unfortunately its far from perfect...shane blay (oh sleepers guitarist) saw it and pointed out several mistakes :/

    but thanks anyway man

  • HAHA SOO! DOOD i can play this song also lol as long as it sounds fine to you, then its good. dont have to be perfect :P

although its always nice :P haha..

ohh shane.. we know them haha

Micah Kinard (lead singer) built us our custom lights! ;) take a look at our videos in about a months time and youll see. lol

dood still great job! play it better than me :(

    Anthony

  • micah is awesome...i got to meet all of them last summer...good time

  • thanks!

    much appreciated

  • you dont have to upstroke to alternate pick...everyone has different technique...music is about sound not perfect technique...as long as you get the job done and make it sound right then who gives a crap if you dont play it the "way youre supposed too"...if i play downstrokes and you play upstrokes and they sound the same, then who cares!!! its all still music in the end

  • I know how to play the last part, i just can't play the solo in this song...

    xD

  • no he doesn't i replied to some comment he can't upstroke but that was a while ago i dunno now...if u can't upstroke u can't alternate pick.

  • it's still a really bad habit really bad deadly shizz tho he was awesome i agree eh!

  • haha i freaked out cuz i thought had the zakk wylde gibson but then i read the other comment haha

i wanna get that guitar someday tho

the epiphone not the real thing ciz like u said no sense spending all that money

  • you do some of the best covers i have seen. how long did it take to learn this song and how long have you been playing?

  • that was beast man im only that good at guitar HERO, nice

  • is that a zakk gibson?

  • nah dude just the epiphone...the only difference between the two is the emg: zw pickups and its different wood...no sense in spending an extra 3000 for that

  • this is definently the best cover i have heard so far. i just got 3 string sweeps down pretty good recently im working on 45 and then 5 i know the srpagios for this song but those are the thing keeping me from getting it. this song is so bad ass.

  • I wish I could hear your guitar.

  • best cover on youtube.

  • u need to learn to alternate pick dude!

  • that was awesome!Best one ive seen on here yet. very clean picking.

  • dude way to shred it out... why don't you learn how to upstroke.. it's a bitch to get outta the habit but you'll get 10x better since you obv have good rhythm. just some advice.

  • yeah im workin on it...my hand looks like its spazzing out in this video!!!

  • yeah bro i was lucky cus when i started playing several years ago i also took an orchestra class in high school and the teacher wouldn't let me play unless i always picked up down up down so it wasn't too hard breaking the habit. lol. but yeah dude itll take you a while but i swear you'll shred like crazy

  • haha!! yeah i had no teacher or anyone to teach me proper technique...thats also why i hold my pick like a douche bag =/

  • great job man

  • finally someone plays it right on here

  • Beautiful dude could you send me the taps??

  • uhhh...maybe...itll take me a few days to tab it out...

  • there are tabs out there dude

  • siiiiiiiiiick

    fuckin love you man, lol

  • BEAST

  • FAVORITE

  • i know right...thats why i made it...the sweeps sound amazing in this song

  • :0

    sick

  • sorry man...no tabs...but i can tell you the sweep is a normal minor sweep staring on the 17th fret...its really hard to play unless you have 24 frets (which i dont)...theres not a lot of room to move around that high
