I live in Southern California, and I am surrounded by Illegal Aliens, predominantly from Mexico. Most of them are very nice people, BUT I still want them to GO HOME and apply to come here legally. If they DO, I will be happy to be their neighbor and co-worker. But they WON'T because America makes it easy to stay. And yes they get all kinds of freebies. Why? @fearfulmatrix While you are a person, the label illegal is just a label that describe a person that chooses not to legally take the correct action to become a US citizen and assimilate into the US lifestyle. And the term paying taxes may be too over your head to understand. If illegals pay income tax on the SS# that is not theirs, than that income get put on someone else and they have to pay more taxes on top of there own. So you end up hurting more than you contribute. So just do it legally.

I know that the label itself is used in legal matters, but it is also used to dehumanize. When you hear the term illegal, the image of another person and of families does not pop up. And btw, you can pay taxes without a SC#, there's a loophole in the system, you can get an ITIN# and claim for taxes that way, not in any way hurting someone else. Most of the better (non-criminal, self-sufficient) immigrants I know pay taxes. And to come in the country "legally" is near to impossible.

If you look into the immigration policies, it's near to impossible to do it legally.. NOW. It has been left as a broken system, which makes sense for the ties into the benefits of having underpaid workers.

Having the "illegal" is a pretty cosmetic thing altogether. People move as they wish, and people vote with their feet.

What I'm really frustrated about is how noone realizes the real problem: Mexico's economy, and dependent industry on American imports. Its not something to ignore.
