@MrAkillina yes i know... that doesn't take away from the fact that they've been around for years. it's almost an insult to peoples intelligence to suggest such a well known band
@MrAkillina oh yeah cus they haven't been around for years. people, you should start watching this box thing called a television or travelling in cars
@Army88Z my bad bro i was drunk jammin to this and couldnt believe all the negative feedback on this, but yes everyone has an opinion and i respect that, and i did sound like a douche huh
Anybody else disappointed with the new approach the arctic monkeys are taking or is it just me? I tried hard make this album grow on me but it just isn't for me I guess.
@Army88Z wtf woulod you rather eat the same thing over and over forever? or would you like a variety of taste. idk about you but i like variety, if anythin you dont even deserve to listen to this album give it to someone whod apprciate it(if indeed you did buy it, wich i did because i actually support am and dont rip them off), i think you hear am and dont listen to em... and if you've a lesson to teach me i'm listenin, ready to learn.. ps your dissapointing..
"What the fuck? Would you rather eat the same thing over and over again forever or do you like a variety of taste? I don't know about you, but I like variety. I think you hear the music but don't really listen to it. Maybe you have something to teach me... go on, I'm listening."
Wow really?!? A bit of a rash comeback dont ya think? I bought the cd and I like it I just don't love it. There are some songs I like on it but just not the tempo and style I loved about them from the first two songs. BTW this is an opinion nothing to start one of those dumb internet fights over.
The only lesson I have for you is try not to be a douchebag on the internet......it says alot about who you are behind that computer screen.
@Nothing58 What? Wow,...interesting. What makes you think that, and do you suspect that Alex Turner knows first hand about heroin? Just curious,....but I doubt it seriously.
Arctic Monkeys are the only band, that i can honestly say i love every song of theirs. I don't know its just the lyrics inspire and enchant me, like i'm in some kind of trance whenever i listen. They take time over every song, unlike other bands i've come across.
It always disappoints me when bands change their style...but....with these guys, I found them when I was into the quicker sound. Songs like "Old Yellow Bricks" and "Vampires" were my addiction...
Then they slowed down ... and fortunately it was at the pace of my musical taste. This album is absolutely beautiful, I am so pleased. I like how deep everything is, it's just easy to listen to. I think, with this song and "My Propeller", they've become my favorite band ever.:D
Took Them A week to record this song...I can't imagine spending 7 days doing anything better. After 3.20 my brains hit the wall behind me....and I'm still typing!
Joshua Homme performed wonders producing this album. You can hear his influence a lot after 3:07 - the melody, and when it fades out, it kinda sounds like a Carousel. It just reeks of Homme, and I love it :D
Wow such a creepy sounding and total chilling album. It has also some of the most relaxing songs (like dance little liar) equal to the best reggea masterpieces. Definetly a grower, wasn't so happy first when they gave away the fast dancey kinda sound for this more creepy and folkish groove, but now...bam!
first time i heard the Humbug songs i were like "Thats no way near as good as the other albums" but next day i were like "ill just have to listen to them one more time... one more time... one more time..." now i love all of arctic monkeys songs
Humbug i thought was rubbish when i first downloaded it...but now I know it's their finest piece of work by far. An absolute gem and the definition of a "grower" of an album. Keep listening...and it gets better. Clever lyrics and great music.
I like the fact they've changed their sound, they are versatille and no one is 19 forever...now they are darker and deeper but I really like it(I like very very much their early stuff too)
I really love this album. I love all 3 of them equally, actually. They're all so different that it's not fair to compare them! The lyrics are always amazing. In every song. The Arctic Monkeys are just magical.
Everyone prefers their 1st album, but honestly, how many albums sound like Humug, and how many albums sound like WEPSIATWIN?
The individuality of this album is quality, and ontop of that then their instrumental skills have got much better, aswell as Alex's song writing ability.
i accualy like "Favourite worst nightmare" the most. But yet humbug is still an improvment from the two first albums. Because its a new and exiting style, a style i cant relate to any other bands. So you cant get sick of their songs by listeninfg to other stuff, like for example you can get sick of heavy metal, hard rock or blues itself by listening to one or two bands.
I love the new stuff. Alex started off as another purveyor of British life ala Moz, Albarn, Cocker, P Doherty but now seems to be developing and reaching to be a truly masterful lyricist like Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen.
i think i heard somewhere that its about alex turner growing up from the early days when he was a rebellious indie kid and now the press and stuff wont let him grow up or appreciate hes changed
such a great album which a lot of Fans dismissed at its first listen but its a grower and is probably the best thing they've done and i'm glad they are changing sound
@cheevers4ever anybody who dismissed this album isnt a true fan. your there for the ups and downs becasue you know... in time people will be ridding this album harder than lindesy lohans ass in jail ;P
true masterpieces take time to be discovered. and probs to everyone showing these chaps the support they deserve!
@cheevers4ever couldn't agree with your more, their first two albums sounded too similair, therefore if this had the same feel it would be slandered. but the fact that there going for this dark, gritty appearance and sound brings you in. am digging it
@mrbuddy12345 I would say The Doors, although that's mainly this song and Crying Lightning. I can see the Pumpkins kinda' thing on the guitars though.
Indie is just a word for people to put themselves in the "underground" of music, rather than following the mainstream. Once a band becomes popular/famous, all of a sudden they're no longer indie.
That's more or less what I am saying: they were never really indie. The first album was huge, and the second broke a record set by the Beatles in most albums sold in the first week or something like that. Nonetheless, I'm not trying to be one of those Youtube douche bags who argues about shit via wall comments. Good day.
Yeah. Sadly, JET was one of the bands who failed...I REALLY hope they go back to their true sound. The only good track on their Shaka Rock album was She's A Genius which sounds like it should belong to their previous albums!
I tried to understand what this song is about, and came across some guy who thought it was about a girl who fell in love with the wrong kind of guy, like a loverboy, and all her friends (the wolves) tell her that, but she falls for him (again) and her friends are proved right. At the end she realizes her mistake.
if you don't like it fair enough, it is a refined taste. But critics are loving it because of poetism employed by alex. musically, they've grown up too.
to say critics are only loving it because they're the arctic monkeys is cynical and ridiculous. Critics love to bash a band at their height, but they can't because anyone who knows anything about music or lyricism would understand that, even if it isn't your particular taste, it is a great album.
Best Arctic Monkeys record for sure! Homme did quite good job with these guys, great stuff!

auwhoorhrej, Spot on mate. This album just goes to show how musicley gifted these boys are, Alex in particular. Absolute legends. what a tune.

I tried to understand what this song is about, and came across some guy who thought it was about a girl who fell in love with the wrong kind of guy, like a loverboy, and all her friends (the wolves) tell her that, but she falls for him (again) and her friends are proved right. At the end she realizes her mistake.

The lyrics are like a good book or poem, with multiple layers.
The music is great too, as it gradually builds, like Ravel's Bolero.
Like good wine, you've got to learn to enjoy this album.

i gotta wonder weather this song is about LSD. not saying it definatly is, im just wondering. Maybe a bad trip?

if you don't like it fair enough, it is a refined taste.
Despite that, the song isn't really that good.
