At one point the album was to be called "Rabbit Fighter" but at the last minute Marc went with "The Slider" . To me, "Rabbit Fighter" remains one of Marc Bolan's best songs but most mystifying lyrics. 40 years on and I'm still trying to decide what it means.
Love the little heheheh in the fade out at the end. Bolan songs have these great vocal touches and guitar swirls that show his genius. He wrote and recorded 100s of songs in a three year stretch when he ruled the world.
loved this when it first showed up in the record store in 73 when I was 16. LOVED ALL the early glam rockers - but those on the 'other side' hated it, said "it was just fags', and smoked their cigarettes on the way to the Lynrd Sknrd (sp?) concerts while we stomped off to the Philly Spectrum in Velvet and platform shoes with rhinestones (girls) to the T-Rex shows with knowledge that WE KNEW!!!!
I moved to the big city in 1972, alone, lonely, and a little bit scared...I had a furnished room, an AM/FM Cassette player, and "The Slider" cassette.....this album was my company, it was my girlfriend, protector, conversation partner and cultural tutor, and it was wonderful...the wide, luscious, orchestral moments and the bluesy, limey texture just took over my psyche....and today, almost 40 years later, it still touches my soul when I hear "Rabbit Fighter" or Ballroom of Mars"
this song is awesome i love it.i had the slider CD and my son lost it!!!! thats what you get when your kid's like your music. and he took the electric warrior. i did get a replacement. i wish i could find the slider again. love him so much a great talent.
@TheOneMightyOne I had friends that didn't like this when it came out. I still don't understand why not. But they were all "Physical Graffiti" while I was all "Houses of the Holy".
Marc Bolan is simply amazing... If I had a nickle for every great second of this song, i'd have enough money to buy this song for ten of my friends so they could stop listening to rap. XD
Guess they are nicknames of friends.

Why do people just post some pieces of the lyrics as a response to a song? So weird...I see it all of the time, and it makes no sense.

@evilashxero Or lament the fact that Justin Beiber and/or Lady Gaga exist at all.... as if their equivalent didn't exist back in the day.

This song absolutely dicks on all current chart music. WHAT THE FUCK WENT WRONG? If only this was still considered 'popular'.
