an incredible moviei just fineshed it for my freshman english class and my teacher was absolutly right it is a horror film but if you think of it as a love story it wont be scary at all. if you havent seen it you have to its a wonderful and insperational movie
I absolutely hated Lady in the Water and Last Airbender. But I forgive M. Night because I loved The Village, Signs, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, And yes... The Happening too.
This isn't a horror film. People who were lulled into it by the trailer were should watch it again to really see the message.
The human nature to suffice will conquer even the greatest fears. I actually was tearing up when Walker was explaining to the Elders why he was doing what he was doing.
Something beautiful. Yes, that is what we are forgetting. The world is beautiful. People are beautiful. It is our society that is rotten.
I love the music in this movie but the plot and the twist are the best! I know a lot of people don't like this movie but I think they go into it thinking it's supposed to be a horror film. It's really more of an intellectual piece of artwork... it's meant to tax the brain and make you think differently. That's why this movie is so beautiful. If you want scary go watch the Grudge or something haha
I love the music, James Newton Howard is a genius. The movie is also amazing, and misunderstood by a lot of people. Very underrated. For anyone who is trying to learn this on PIANO, I just did a cover and it is on my wall. I am thinking about making a tutorial, if enough people ask. Please don't mark this as spam, I want to help people learn, because there's no tutorial of it on here.
I honestly want to cry when listening to this, and that's saying a lot considering I'm an emotionless person. It sucks that my fellow high school peers don't get the depth of this film and label it as "boring and gay"-not that their opinion matters, but it would be nice to share with someone...
Ehh the film had an intresting concept and brilliant acting but I'm not a huge fan of the director. The music on the other hand is just breathtaking. <3
I wish that everyone would stop giving M. Night so much grief, because i believe that he a genius, and the village still scares the shit out of me. lady in the water made me cry, it was so powerful. can't wait to see what he will do next.
wtf?? I loved this film, and the score fits perfectly. I do think it was wrongly advertised because everyone thought it was a scary production which is not but once you watch it, it changes your perception completely. Now look at the photography, the argument which many directors would wish to create. I'm not trying to convince people to like it because that's nonsense but I'd like them to show some respect for something that deserves more attention and then judge it.
This always makes me think of autumn... you know... the leaves changing brilliant colors and being carried away by a light breeze, harvest festivals, the smells of cinnamon, apple cider, and pumpkin... that is, until 2:10. Then I start thinking Halloween, haunted woods, and that feeling of raw paranormal power that a good walk in the wooded countryside of, say, Massachusetts can bring at that time of year.
Around 3:40, when they opened the black box, I was like "Wait, what?" And then, when I realized what was happening, I just stared at the TV with my mouth open.
Dont be sad. If you loved her then be happy that you loved, becuse that made you a better man. The one that will love you back with all her heart and never stop loving you might be around the corner. And was perhaps waiting for this moment.
this is my favorite one in the film. what a beautiful film score. this is one of my favorite film socres. my favorites are signs, the village, a series of unfortunate events.
@victoneter I tell you, a lot of people are gunna tell you it sucks, but it is seriously the most beautiful and passionate film I have ever seen. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it. Plus, it scared the shit out of me for weeks. Not in a gory violent sort of way, but in a psychological way. Go for it, thank me later, it's truly awesome ;)
@BrotherCopper I remember watching this film with a friend when it released. I knew nothing about the plot going in and it really took me by surprise. I don't get why so many people hate it. They're entitled to their opinions but I rate this film very highly. The panic and frenzy in the scenes where 'thsoe-we-do-not-speak-of' were coming to the village was very realistic and I was scared too !
I have never understood why one of the elders could not have gone to fetch the medicines though.
@wrichik I think it's because they made that pact. they were talking about it right after Lucius got stabbed. they sent Ivy because she was doing it for love, knowing she would come back and not just leave once she got outside.
@BrotherCopper I'm always suprised by those who discard the movie as a bad horrorfilm. Truth is, The Village is a masterpiece in both performance and technical display. I used it as part of my teaching and when I told my students what to look for and consider they were hooked! Love the movie!
@BrotherCopper It is an awesome film, and everybody hates it because they dont understand it. They go in expecting a scary movie with a mind blowing ending like the sixth sense. This is not a horror flick. This is more of a romantic movie with some suspense. But it is beutiful in the filming, imaging, music and even symbolism:)
Passing time, unpersued dreams, lost chances, unfulfilled hopes.....this song speaks of all these things. Now all i want to do is go and make the most of everything i have
This soundtrack is probably the most under-appreciated ever to be made :( Every track is incredible, this being my personal fav. It such a shame so few people know it
@numberonemisfitsfan yeah absolutely! I dont get why alot of people dont like it, i think its amazing. I love how beautiful it is- you can literally pause it at any second and it could be a movie poster.
Ooft.. I still get tingles everytime I hear this. Two of my favourite instruments being played together, simply beautiful. Also one of my favourite movies :)
does any body know whee i can find a tutorial for this song for the keyboard/piano. I have looked everywhere but its just covers that you watch. If not, would anybody like to make one, i would be ever so greatful as i cant read music but i love to play, i usually play by ear, but i would like to learn the gravel road properly. Thankyou
But there's one thing i would do if I were the director: make it that they actually are in the 1800's...then it would feel even more mystical and tragic.
James Newton Howard did such a good job on this piece, with keeping actually good-sounding chords in it the entire time, except for the "B" section, maybe. That was just to keep it fresh, I'm sure. But still, that piano with the passionate strings: captures the love and devotion between the two leads.
This song practically moves me to tears. It just moves my heart in ways that most music wouldn't normally do. I LOVE IT!!!! All of the songs I've heard so far from the soundtrack are so beautiful...

@TheSoundtrackBeast It's Lucius that takes her hand, not Noah... This music is from the scene when Ivy is walking through the woods on her own towards the end of the movie.
The movie was nothing special, but Hillary Hahn was awesome with the violin.
