Tim is a great singer but even if he is 10 times better technically from MAT which he isn't, MAT is iced earth. I think Tim 'The Ripper' is a great singer, but I think Iced Earth is too much for him to handle. I mean he must be in a more basic band like Judas or Primal Fear, he has a big lack of energy required for a band like IE which is so heavy, thrashy and powerful, Tim is so still, anyway he's one of the greatest metal vocals in history.

I checked out Iced Earth and they're pretty good. If you're into this, you should all take a listen to German metal outfit Brainstorm (because Andy B Franck is pretty instense), Nevermore (as if anyone seeing Iced Earth hasn't already), and Swedish group Falconer. That's a few off the top of my head.

no, now every song wont sound like it's overly epic. see, Barlow knows when to turn his epicness on/off, owens doesnt. e.g. Melancholy, owens DOES NOT sound sad in the beginning live, barlow sounds like he's about to freakin cry for reals, cuz Barlow knows wats up.

yeah I like how people say Matt Barlow is Iced Earth but John Schaffer wrights all the music and its John Schaffers personal project. You could say in relation to that every members just a guest invited to help out on a album.

I gotta comment on this!! This is a good song, but if u think this is the best song IE ever made ur living in a fantasy world to b polite. I'm an Iced Earth fan who likes Jon's guitar playing, Matt's vocals and even Tim's vocals. I didnt think Tim could live up 2 matt but guess what he did. When i heard songs like desert rain and the likes when Schaffer were singing a duo-like thing with Gene i thought Schaffer was way better, even though his singing style is spooky its very cool and interesting :)

The whole Barlow vs Owens arguement is over , the Barlow fans clearly won.
However , Tim does a great job singing this one. I do like Matt's version the best, but I enjoy this one just as much.

ok lets get this out. first off, barlow was the THIRD singer. not the original. 1st two albums featured 2 different singers. tehn barlow. next. ripper was fired for the same reason teh first 2 quit. schaffer is a prick to work for. and he said tim couldnt' write, tim butted heads w/ him on that, adn he got fired. bottom line. tim said he's stay on till they found a replacement, which turned out to be barlow again. but u can't compare a tenor to a baritone. its apples and oranges.

I checked out Iced Earth and they're pretty good. If you're into this, you should all take a listen to German metal outfit Brainstorm (because Andy B Franck is pretty instense), Nevermore (as if anyone seeing Iced Earth hasn't already), and Swedish group Falconer. That's a few off the top of my head.

Knowledge and intelligence are two different subjects. You could know a few metal band names with an IQ of 60. And it's not a given. I didn't know about Iced Earth until I watched this video. I didn't watch this video until I checked a link from a Brainstorm video. I check out bands people link me to from videos here. Sometimes you see something you didn't know about before.
If I wanted to school someone, I wouldn't make a suggestion. I'd make a supposition and turn it into a contest.

Alive in Athens is only great because it was a studio edit, you dont know wtf your talking about. Gene Adams was fired becuase he couldn't sing but Matt Barlow fucks the originals every time. You see now how fucken lame John Schaffer is, Tim Owens called Iced Earth Revolving door after he was fired with the bass player

As I recall, Matt didn't do too well on this one either.

Owens was the only redeeming thing about this otherwise completely pedestrian band. How Schaffer gets away with combining disposable Iron Maiden riffs with a bit of an old Metallica crunch shall forever remain a mystery. And now he's go that wannabe Paul Stanley Matt Barlow back in the band.......

The original style of this song better suits Tim than it does Matt.
However, Tim didn't apply enough of his Judas Priest voice on this one, but otherwise, it was still pretty good.
On a sidenote, I wonder how many Matt Iced Earth fans would have been slain if Rob Halford had be Matt's replacement instead of Tim...

They were bored , the majority of Iced Earth's performance at Wacken , and all over europe was underwhelming. That might be why Tim was fired.

It sucks that Barlow is back. Ripper is a much better singer and fits the band much better. Never really cared for Barlow's style. Not much grit at all...and nowhere near the range of Owens.
