  • I liked this. :) Lovely voices, as well.

  • The humanist gets some bad lines, I personally don't think theists need someone older and wiser to tell them reality.

  • I think the theist has a prettier voice but the atheist has a more powerful one....hmmmm The instrumental is way to loud in this video.

  • This is so cute! I'm a Witch and my hubs is a Humanist...we have many conversations like this! Blessed BE!

  • @WhitMcMo Um, a witch?

  • i'm sorry but,... WHAT?

  • @truesuccsessor01 What don't you understand? It is sarcasm in that we don't really don't really treat each other that way. Maybe it's the first time you've been exposed to a religion that has a sense of humor or that welcomes people of different beliefs? If you don't understand things like "Occam's razor" & "Pascal's wager" please look them up on Wikipedia.

  • OK, explain this to me, there is a CHURCH that isn't sure if there is a God??? Then what is the point? Just call it a social club of people who are trying to make two mutually incompatible worldviews coexist. This is not something you can sit on the fence about (although I realize that Unitarians have been trying for many years).

  • @meezermex Not all Unitarian Universalists are atheists or agnostics, the majority are theist and about 1/3 identify as Christian. We just don't tell them what to believe, because religious belief is personal. Check out "Why Atheists Come To Church" - Part 1" at the YouTube channel AllSoulsUnitarian and then try part 2 & 3.

  • @meezermex Perhaps you may want to learn something about UUs and their Living Tradition before making ignorant comments like this. UUism has it's own set of principles and purposes. I'll throw one out for you: To affirm and promote a free and responsible search for truth and meaning.

  • ALBANY NEW YORK!!!

  • I thought this was utterly brilliant and sent it to lots of people - and I'm a UU! Those women have beautiful voices and I'm so glad they posted this!

  • The humanist treated the theist's life!!! lol.

  • I was really enjoying this until the UU part at the end.

  • This is fun! What a nice way to consider how different our points of view can be. Yet we can still talk. At least, some of us can.

  • As a Presbyterian, i disagree with everything in this song, no to say it isn't good or supports a way of life, but what if there is a God, How else to explain the universe, the origin of everthing, Either some sort of Higher power made this world. Eith God, or Gods, There is no validated therory to support or deny God. or something else.

  • You're absolutely right. There is no valid theory to support God and as a Presbyterian, don't you believe Jesus preached love. So why not love people of different beliefs, including the agnostic and the Wiccan?

  • @dmuuc i believe that christ was love. he loved everyone, thats why he died for us all.

  • @killhannahsboy2 then how come love existed before christianity was founded?

  • @killhannahsboy2 I thought the Jews killed Jesus? Isn't that why they are going to be persecuted by both God and the Antichrist and burn for all eternity in hell? Make up your minds. You can't have it both ways.

  • @killhannahsboy2 Then how do you explain God? Did a super God make him? If God just exists without a maker, the universe can just exist without a maker, can't it?

  • We think god is dead? How can something be dead if it was never alive.

  • This is really good !

  • as an actual humanist I cannot support this song. It just feels wrong and condescending. Last time I checked humanism was about the dignity of all, not some atheistic bent. somewhere along the line (American Secular Humanism) the message was skewed.

  • Did you listen to the end? It's supposed to be funny. It's an exaggeration of what some humanists say. I'm a humanist and wouldn't say those things (I also didn't write the song). Many humanists are also atheists. Check out Laci Green (gogreen18) who says you have to be either an atheist or a theist vs agnostic - speaking to beliefs about God, Heaven, etc. I don't agree with all her theses, but I see her point. This is the younger generation and the way things are going.

  • This is great. :) Thanks for sharing.

    - Julie, Unitarian Universalist in Illinois

  • very, very nifty. thanks from a dedicated UU.

  • HAHA! fun!!

  • Very clever and artistic; my UU wife sent this to me (an ex-UU). It reminds me of what I don't miss about UU-ism. ;-)

It is excellent fodder for a blog post.

  • UUs are merely human & don't always act according to our principles. We don't usually criticize each other's beliefs, because we're supposed to believe that our way is NOT the one & only right way, unlike some other religious beliefs.

  • we're supposed to believe that our way is NOT the one & only right way,

    -------------------------

sure, there may be many methods for living a happy, useful life, and there are often many possible explanations for something. Still, that doesn't mean that all beliefs should be respected; some people's beliefs make them think that flying airplanes into buildings is a good idea.

  • Believing that our way is not the only way is not the same as believing that every belief is right.

  • agreed. :-)

  • No, it's being willing to admit you might be wrong.

  • You're great singers, the both of you.

    And I love the lyrics.

Sarah at First UU Church of Oakland

  • This is really cool! You both are great singers!

Amanda at UU Church Of Davis

  • Fun stuff! Thanks for posting!

    Roger at First UU Columbus

  • You are very talented. Thanks again for posting the video along with captions so we can understand the clever lyrics.

  • I don't know how to improve the video you have--although others may. If you could get these two together and record again, adding more light (on them) would help the visual quality and using separate mikes for each would help the audio (lavalier mikes are good). An alternative to separate mikes would be for each to step up to the mike in turn, and to stand very close when singing together. You'd also get better sound with a direct feed from the mike to your videocam. Consider a re-do?

  • I'm one of the 2 and we'd be happy to get back together again, but I don't know if it'd be worth our time & effort to do the same song again. Lighting and better miking are taken as good suggestions for our next production, whatever it may be.

  • Love the lyrics--and terrific singing! I wish the video were a bit higher quality, but thanks so much for posting it!

  • Do you know how I could get better quality? I would if I could.

  • The lyrics were written by Meg and Scott Bassinson of Albany, New York.

    Great rendition!

  • Encore!
