This is hella late. but I LOVE this film more so than Pulse.
I don't know why but it creeped me out, and the film is really really smart at pointing out that people are smarter than they appear and anyone can be manipulated NOT necessarily mind controlled but manipulated
Another film some people consider J-horror...that isn't a horror movie! Not by a long-shot!
One thing I'll say about it: Best DVD menu EVER! I liked the opening menu better than the film itself! It's certainly more haunting than most everything else in the movie.
It's a great thriller, and I was really involved until the stupid ending! Why must Japanese films keep crapping out 'What is the meaning of reality?' nonsense endings?! It's so very aggravating. *sigh* Oh well. Nice review anyway.
I really like Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Simply because I love the emotion you feel while watching his films, and the way that you have to watch to understand.
Cure & Pulse are great films although they aren't as immediately scary as, for example, Ring or Tale of 2 Sisters.
The horror is more conceptual (although there is an element of that in Ring & Tale also).
The implications of Cure (that we all have the capability & desire to murder, & that our identity is a construct built around NOTHING) & Pulse (that our lives are meaningless & our isolation absolute & eternal) are very frightening if you consider them.
Bad movie. Remember, this one persons opinion (like mine), rent it first if you can or but it cheap. Seek many opinions because Swan also thought Malformed Men was good! Really?
There's nothing wrong with an opinion about any of these films, but is there some reason you have to take a shot at the person who has been so kind to have taken his own time and trouble to review the films and post them to YouTube in the first place, just because you don't happen to appreciate *his* opinion? Why make it personal?
Hey, hey I was looking up this film on youtube to see if someone else had put anything related i.e. a trailer but then I came across this clip called "Happiness of the Katakuris" by Takashi Miike. It looks really bizaare because in a horror/comedy/musical and has claymation scene in it. Have you seen it? What's your opinion on it?
Im not Swan but Ive seen it, really a weirdo movie and I wouldn't start with it if youre starting to get into Miike. It is more black comedy than horror, but if you like the music in it I would recommend the flick, its definately Anti-Bollywood at its finest.
Well it had zombies in it at some point so it should be in that sense I classed it as a horror plus the claymation scene at the begining was morbidly gruesome in a Hitchcock/Wallace and Gromit sense which is why I mentioned it on here and it was directed by the man that made one of my top J-horror movies. (Odishon) ^^ I thought it was extremely funny in it's bizaare and fairly cheesy format though.
you can for the most part, but there are just a few scenes near the end in particular that have fans divided on what they mean. I know I was a little confused with some of the ending haha.
This one looks quite good but in Australia we only realy have one distributer of asian films(that I know of) and that is "Asian Eye" so some of these films don't get released here in australia so we usualy get U.S. versions or the origional distributer but it cost alot.
You didn't give a score for this one, though I guess if it only had the feature and the interveiw there wasn't much point.
ahh that's right, i should say i am still doing scores, i list the score in the description of the video now. Want to keep the reviews tight and not too long, but also want spoofs in there, so I put the score of the film in the description. Still debating on how to go about with the scores though haha.
I haven't seen your reviews since the summer time. Really missed them. Always have been a great way to end the night. And to think I accidentally found you from watching a Halo 3 mock video of Suicide Club. Anyway, thanks for the entertainment!
haha so that's where you found my videos from? Interesting, I'm always curious to hear how people are attracted to these haha. Glad to have you watching again!

Ah, yes! I saw that one. That ending still has me wondering. I suppose evil lives on? But am not sure. I'd hate to have the bad ending though.

i agree. it really has a lot more in common with david fincher's se7en.
but maybe he's not referring to it as a horror movie in the typical sense - more of the horror of man's inhumanity toward man.

I don't supposed you know any main-stream shops that sales J-Horror please? The Uk ever gets much -_-;
