I actually like the album version and this version, both are amazing, and no matter if U2 changes the tune of the song or adds some awesome rave in a song, it'll still be the same. Long live U2, best band in the world.
can we just allll sayyyyyyy "POP" :o) As a huge fan of the POP album and the POPMART TOUR (which I wasent able to attend).... THIS TOUR IS MAKING ME VERY VERY VERY HAPPY!!!! But... you know what would make this even sweeter?? If they would throw in Discothque :o) any POP would be much loved :o)
There is absolutely NO WAY Sunday Bloody Sunday should be following this in the setlist. If I had my choice they'd follow it up with Mofo but shit Even Better Than The Real Thing would be sweet as would Discotheque. It just makes no sense to play the politically charged SBS after this this song turns the place into a giant dance party. Keep the party going and play MOFO!
@Hallucination i read somwhere that they placed sunday bloody sunday right after this to completely shock the crowd and throw them off. was a complete mind fuck when i saw it the first time at the show i went to
This version was so awesome live! Wembley stadium was ROCKING... I was surprised by it (I deliberately kept away from any live footage from the show so that I wouldn't have any knowledge of it) and with the disco ball and all the lights, it turned the stadium of 90,000 people into a club. I was rocking out... awesome.!
I would love to hear an album really influenced by Eno,, i think they have a huge urge to really embrace electronic music, you can hear it all over Zooropa and in smaller amounts ever since,,when they played this in Dublin,, the place, literally took off,, ditto at Hampden pk... i always feel, Edge/Bono want to take the band in that off kilter electro direction,,, and if they give Eno the next one, well we live in hope!!!
Just as some of you suggested this live mix grows on you. Can hear all sorts of good things in it. When Larry gets back on the Drums it sounds like the beat from New Order's 'Blue Monday'
Can't understand how this live remix is considered better than the album version. 'better' in what sense exactly? The vocals are much better on the album - it's an anthemic piece with great rhythm and some fine jarring beats. All this gets lost in the live remix.
Imagine if they recorded this version in the studio, it would be amazing. Of course the vocals suck, its live, but if this song was properly recorded it would blow the socks off the original version. Because really, the original is pap and fluff. They got scared when Pop didn't succeed, and sold out with generic love rock. When really, they should have kept at the electro until they succeeded.
You seem to have a clear take on this but I'm still not sold on the idea. Certainly the vocals have a long way to go on the live version. I like that the chorus is given to the audience but I wish Larry would put the bongo aside earlier and give a more elaborate drum set for this piece. They could bring Clayton in on the base beat and Bono could riff on the vocals. It could even flirt with New Orders electro in "Blue Monday" but not as stilted.
I think you had to be there to love the remix. Immagine expecting a "normal" version and then they bluff completely and pull out this rave party instead. The whole stadium was exploding with energy, everybody dancing in awe. More than the song itself (I agree it's not that good), what makes this special to me was the overall experience of seeing U2 turning a concert into a discoteque-like party.
You are right, this recorded version doesn't do it justice. It sounded so awesome and powerful live and the atmosphere was crazy... and so fun. We were dancing like it was a rave up in there and screaming out "I KNOW I"LL GO CRAZY... " etc. Awesome time. The video doesn't quite capture it. But I really hope they release a recorded version of it!
Honestly mostly all videos on YOUTUBE from this tour can not capture the AMAZINGNESS of this tour.. I just finished my 2 nights at GIANTS STADIUM and it was BEAUTIFUL,WONDERFUL,AMAZING! Then I come online to see the videos and its totally different.
my partner's not a fan of this song on the album but when we saw it at Croke Park he completely changed his mind - he thinks it's far superior to he album version and apart from anything else U2 actually look like they really enjoy performing it. And the fans go mad for it. We wouldn't be surprised if it became a staple of later U2 performances. Good to that Larry's made up with his Conga ;)
Jesus is this ever good. So much better than the album version, if only they made an electro album in this style, it would've been massive and reaffirmed their greatness. But No Line was an awkward hybrid of HTDAAB and Achtung Baby, and didn't really know what to sound like. As good as this is, it sounds like a missed opportunity.
Agree totally, but Larry (and to some extent Adam) will never accept it....But had they chosen to follow POP will a full blown Electronica recored, they would have been equally unsurpassed as they were in ZOO era....
This remix was also played at the Amsterdam Arena and it was the aboslute highlight of the evening. It went so smooth and when Adam, Edge & Larry were playing side by side the stadium was shaking!
i feel we wont get this in america.....this techno mix stuff is more european, i dont know if it will fly over here. people will wanna hear the original i think.
I didn't like this remix AT ALL the first couple times - I now believe that this will definitely be one of the highlights when I see the Soldier Field shows. Amazing work as always,U2006com!
Just incredible musicians, the way they even twist their own music into something else. They are so creative and genius in their work. I just love them. I hope they never stop touring. I'd see them at age75!! :) And that's bono at 75, not me haha

Hello my friend, Thank you very much for the videos that you posted in this site. You are bringing happy moments for a lot of U2 fans, I will see the band in Brasil, cheers, Luiz.
The remix version is just an excuse to show the band mugging into the screen. I prefer the original album version of the song.
