I disagree, I think this movie has a little more confusing story line than the comic book, but the action is in my opinion superb, it doesn't glitter, it has no smooth edges, and is not made by a computer, and it gets the job done.

Actually, the action in this is absolutely well polished and superb, to this day Akira is one of the most painstakingly animated films to come out of Japan.

this is my fav. animated film and i showed it to my bro who likes that crappy modern anime and he didn't like it!!! i was so pissed! how can you like anime and not like akira!??!! i don't even like anime and i love it! the comics are epic too...as said before, a lot more is explained

Alot of ppl disliked the film because it condense a superbly structured and written storyline into two hours. I loved it but had to admit its qutie different and imo inferior to the longer comics. As for your brother, he enjoy stupid anime, this film is quite cerebral, could explain alot.
