I hope that someday society will realize that sexual addiction is a real addiction. I just recently lost my career, house, wife and friends over it. I am now spiralling out of control and spend $1000 a week on it and I don't even have a job! It can truly destroy your life. I was emotionally neglected by my mother as a child and thus have not been able to form real relationships although I managed to stay married to a loving wife for 5 years. I am looking forward to seeing it.

Love Fassbender. However, sexual addiction is a much deeper situation with many layers. It's complex, more complex than what Fassbender is expressing here. Sexual addiction destroys lives. It's destructive in so many ways. I love it that Fassbender is exploring this subject and is willing to act in a movie that addresses this most difficult subject. He is such a great actor!

When one repeatedly engages in rituals, the addict goes into a "trance" which separates them from their feelings and reality. This bubble is a " safety space" where the addict is cut off from seeing consequences or sickness of behavior. The neuropathways of the brain are tapped into, the same dopamine response as one gets from actual drugs. McQueen is right about Fassbender. He is the best actor out there. Basically, with MIchael playing the role of Brandon, we are with him, we believe in him, he makes the character human and real. Played by anyone of lesser talent, Brandon will just seem like a pervert.

I love Fassbender. He's too attractive to play the role of a perv, any woman would throw themselves at him. I will still watch though--lol. In the very beginning it sounds like he's the narrator of the movie, explaining the situation. =) Gotta love his story telling voice.

And @razorshrp01 is right. It's the chase and not the act. It's the feeling they want of being able to have sex with whoever they want.

@razorshrp01 I agree. But what fuels the chase? What underlies any addiction? Few phenomena are more complex, more elusive, or invite more interpretations than ADDICTION. What enslaves us to sex or food or drugs or alcohol or whatever other vice? It inhibits us, derails us, saps our energy, impedes us from achieving our true potential...what is the underlying mechanism that drives it? A genetic predisposition or a hole deep within one's spirit? Addiction is a tough nut to crack!!
