  • my mom thinks this guy is hot lol

  • 1:59-2:15 no, just no

  • @sirleftyguitar despite the fact that the wah and the shredding probably killed the performance blues-wise, I think it blew the roof off badass-wise

  • Woooooo love that Gretsch sound! Make that bad girl scream, Dan!

  • Some of these dudes should think about throwing in a quarter rest once in a while to make it seem like they're at least trying to form a phrase, and not just blow through your bag of licks as fast as possible, and then start repeating them over and over. So fucking lame.

  • Floyd Wilson won in Chicago and is the REAL DEAL!!

  • This fella can play. Quite frankly, better than any of the other KOB winners by a long shot. The past 3 winners of the contest have been brutal. Total amateurs. This should have won without a doubt.

  • all these people are amazing on electric but shit on acoustic, just shows acoustic is way way more skillful if you can play it well.

  • is this in drop d?

  • this guy > guy who won

  • Comment removed

  • GREAT

  • This was great.

  • His playing is laced with feeling and attitude. And his licks are so colorful. This guy oozes the blues. Anybody who says otherwise doesn't know a THING about the blues. It isn't just a single style of music. It manifest itself in so many different genres of music (jazz, r&b, rock, etc.). This is blues. Maybe not traditional, but definitely not cliched.

  • @dann3th3manni3 - No. This about 90 percent shred and 10% blues AT BEST. This guy is a good player, but he is overplaying. He needs to turn down the overdrive and throw away his wah and then try to play. He'd be stuck.

  • @airforcejim Dumbass, Dan has been my best friend since 1979, He does Eddie V better than EV, does Steve Vai better than SV and so on. He shredds em all apart. Watch his other youtubes, buy his cd's and go see him live.

    JC

  • @Dragonflail omg shut the fuck up. comparing this stupid gay ass queer to evh and srv is like comparing your fucking mom to meagfan fox. shut the fck up. this guy is ok but quit sayong he is better than every guitarist. you probably dont even play guitar cum guzzler

  • @iarecomingforu

wow, a 12 year old! You've never seen him play metal. This happens to be blues lil guy. Direct me to EVH and SV playing blues. You can tell how limited your experience is by your need to swear, oh and the Megan Fox reference shows your age as well. Go play Pokemon lil guy. lmfao

  • @iarecomingforu

Also, I don't believe EVH and SV are EVERY guitarist. There are 1000's better. Every heard of Ry Cooder?

  • @Dragonflail Damn nigga you must be getting some "Good" dick up that ass from old Dan!!! LMFAO

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER Wow, another 12 year old. Go watch Pokemon now lil guy.

  • I really don't know what all the trolling is about shred. You have to remember that most of the metal shred stuff was very based on blues soloing. So why can't we appreciate both? And besides, I personally like seeing a combo, the best of emotion and technical skill

  • @mychem1914777 All modern electric techniques are based on or originate from blues

  • @verbw002 No, all moderen techniques originate from all music styles. You cant forget that there was spanish music, classical, Jazz, etc. Most techniques combine those

  • @mychem1914777 Jazz was blues based, spanish and classical weren't I agree, but all modern music, whether or the artist knows it, has a large blues bais

  • too much wah but i liked it

  • If you chumps are gonna rip on Peters you might as well go thru the roll call of those

passing themselves as "blues" guitarists: Walter Trout, Tinsley Ellis, Smokin' Joe

Kubek, Joe Bonamassa, Tommy Castro and, yes, even Clapton. He isn't trying to

pass himself off as a bluesman. The dude, like Beck, plays it all. The blues is a feeling? Then tell that to the guys I just mentioned, they think it's a new outlet for

pyrotechnics. And what are you fools doing?

  • Blues?

  • what a hack!

a shredder pretending to play the blues!

  • eddie?

  • That's ya some shredded cheez right there, fellers.

  • SOMEBODY had many a Jeff Beck fantasy in front of the mirror in his room as a kid.

  • Comment removed

  • @mcapanelli REALLY?? Jeff Beck isn't half the guitarist Dan is!

  • This guy can sure play a lot of notes in a short time. ;-)

  • Just Shred

  • I don't know about you all, but this guy's tone is kicking my ass right now!

  • How can people who sore lower beat people in the same contest who scored higher!?! Total crock of shit!!! Its just a big marketing ploy to get data on players and so they break it into 3 nights as to not interrupt business. Then lower scores advance based on who played on that night! not based on who's better in the region! I lost by ONE POINT ON MY NIGHT BUT BEAT PLAYERS ON THE OTHER NIGHTS!!! THE JUDGE TOLD ME AND IM 25, THE WINNERS ON MY NIGHT WERE LIKE 40+ BS!!! I should advance BS!!

  • perfect hair.

  • Part of what helps you win is putting an original spin on your "blues" playing, and stage presence. It doesn't matter how good you are, if you go in and just stand there motionless and cop SRV and BB King licks you aren't going to win. It was cool when he played the guitar behind his head for so long without making mistakes. A little bit much on the high energy hard rock, but the playing was solid. He had some good non-traditional licks. No surprise he made it to the finals.

  • Comment removed

  • @AWHNJ This guys sucks no feel at all in one lick he plays. All a bunch of smoke and mirrors with Niggas like this. That acoustic set is about the fucking worse I have ever heard. GC is all about promotion and King of The Blues contests mean shit in the real world. To quote Hubert Sumlin when they told him about Hendrix "These young boys can sure play circles around me but I got something they just don't know about."

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER chill man, this guy's not half bad. he's no stevie, hendrix, or BB. but blues is how you interpret it. if this is what it is to him so be it, a little on the rocky side, but its blues none the less. everybody has there own style, just look at buddy guy then bb king, hendrix then clapton, they dont all sound the same. blues has no limits.

  • @MusiccReal

Fuck You you wanker bitch you wouldn't know the BLUES if it kicked you in the goddamn nut-sack!!

Best change your screen-name: you surely know nothing about REAL MUSIC.

  • @MusiccReal from what im hearing hes much better lols. Maybe not better then Hendrix but he annihilated vaugn or bb king rofl

  • @Aggrevaine you idiot. he annihilated hendrix and king. NOT VAUGHN. how dare you speak those words

  • @gibbie31 type, type those words

  • lol, i love how bored the backup band is throughout this whole thing

  • i know 2 guitar players from my town of 2000 people that would own this guy in their sleep, and neither of them made it past the 1st round, i just jammed with 1 of them today and he is pretty much a stevie ray vaughan prodegy.

  • I just made store finals this year. The other guy that made it that night was such a douche. He was going around to each of the contestants that looked nervous and playing these crazy fast licks while he was talking them. Talk about a douche bag.lol

  • @trumpetgod2010 For real these fucking wankers don't know how to let a note breathe and must have something against leaving some empty space for ambience. Guys like this are a dime a dozen. That old nigga on the right is Pete Anderson and he would rape this punk on his worst day with 4 broken fingers and 3 strings on his guitar.

  • i just saw this guy he did a clinic at my school's guitar club and he blew me away

  • @funkymonk816 What?? He BLEW You? That explains your enthusiasm.

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER Wha ever your probably just a nother retarted 9 year old white kid go fuck yourself

  • To everyone that's doing it: Talk shit when you make it to the finals. Douches.

  • @mcbm1991 Oh sorry to hurt your feelings Son....how long you been sucking Dan's dick again?

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER You sure seem to know how to pick out homosexuals. Must be fairly familiar with the lifestyle.

  • this isn't blues. it's a blues backing track. but it's just some douche who is just showing off. he doesn't feel any blues. he's just trying to showoff and win

  • AND he's shredding on a Gretsch - pretty damn cool. Ask Billy Duffy.

  • What's all this defining bullshit? Just shut the fuck up and enjoy it - the guy rips!

  • I think this guy is a great player. So he plays fast. So did Gary Moore.

  • ok this guy is so hard rock

  • 2:44 I got a boner.

  • wtf all these people arguing about the definition of blues? what does speed have to do with a genre? am i missing something? what is it now 80bpm and less is considered blues while anything over is shredding? shut up and enjoy the music. Blues is defined by feeling thats a fact, but people express there feelings in different ways, thats why there are so many genres. not everyones feelings/soul can be portrayed with a slow shuffle and a repetitive 3note solo like bbking.

  • For the life of me, I never would have guessed you could get sounds like that out of a Country Gentleman.

  • to bob mango.... how is it not blues? did you know led zep is considered a blues based band? haven't you heard Joe Bonamassa shredding like a mad man. Just remember there' more than one type of blues style.... and blues rack is one of them. Jimmy Hendrix was blues based too, and no one argues he wasn't an excellent blues player.

  • to bob mango.... how is it not blues? did you know led zep is considered a blues based band? haven't you heard Joe Bonamassa shredding like a mad man. Just remember there' more than one type of blues style.... and blues rack is one of them.

  • I think it fits under either category...he wouldn't be a finalist if it wasn't blues.

  • @NoTrespassing2 Right, because corporate guitar stores define what soul is.

  • check out cowboy luke skywalker shredding the fuck outta that gretsch

  • how in the hell is this blues?

  • I miss the feeling

  • this guy is amazing but this is barely blues

  • Wow. I wish I could find tab for this.

  • it doesn't really make much sense to me how these kind of guys make it to the finals... i thought the competition was looking for the best undiscovered BLUES guitarist... he is clearly much more interested in other genres but happens to be able to also play the blues. His interpretation of the blues is dope, but still, he's clearly not a blues guitarist.

  • hes playing rock... he playing blues scales, but in essence what he is doing is rock...

haha, thats what i think anyway =P

  • Excelent !!!

  • Comment removed

  • yet no one will ever remember his name and he will never go down in history as a legend....I'm not bashing ..he is good I will give him that...but where is the passion? can you have competition based on the love of the blues nah you can't .....

  • @gwwilkerson Two years of guitar center competitions and we've yet to see the new Albert King or SRV.

  • @TTmaniax there will never be another SRV man

  • I guess the days of touch, feel and emotion, i.e., blues, is over. Too bad.

  • he's rock dude

  • This is blues, just faster. W/ some showing off lol....but seriously, he is really good.

  • You Lose...that's were arrogance gets you...Muddy, Fats, BB...they're all shinning on this DP Brilliance! This guy is incredible...play on Mr. Peters we're lovin it!

  • You loose in your arrogance...BB, Muddy, Fats, they're all shinning on this brilliance!

  • I wish they'd make people in these stupid contests play rhythm solos. It would get real quiet fast...lol

Music is not a contest, play it because you love it and it makes you happy.

    Roxx

  • STOP being such a dick you guys.....lets see you doing all that and in case you didnt notice they play electric and acoustic yes his style its a bit more shreddy but man hes great its his style other done that too but they added a bit of rythm but the rythm its from drums bass and a guitar so he shreded.......and when he plays with acoustic he is doin hes rythm......cuz hes alone

  • stop shredding you dick!

  • stop shredding dick.

  • At least the shredding was brief.

  • Blues isn't a technique. It's a feeling

  • I agree with the majority of comments. Give a man a hollowbody gretsch and a blues backup band, but once a shredder always a shredder. Not bluesey enough. Just look at his technique, it isn't bad, but it's that of a shredder. No blues player's technique looks even remotely like that.

  • man thats bluesy as hell....your allowed 2 play blues fast u know???

  • im pretty sure he is an amazing player but didnt like the shreding at all....

  • very good man...

  • No sense of tasteful phrasing what so ever

  • i cant believe he didnt win. he really knows how to play

  • hey folks, you probably don't even know this guy, he can play anything you throw at him in any style, blues is about what you're feeling and personality, get some and you might be as great as him one day!!!

  • there must be some kind of dress code; nobody wears t-shirts.

  • Him and Josh both are too shreddy...it's too angus young...it makes me want to hurl. I mean I'm no professional player myself, but when I hear the blues I want it to make me stand up in my chair, stomp my foot and say "hallelujah" ... this doesn't do that. I makes me want to go outside and kick a puppy. Blues is supposed to have soul. This is about 1% soul and about 99% shred. Give me a break. If this is about blues, how did he even make it to the finals?

  • Fabulous

  • who the hell does this guy think he is? Steve Vai?

  • This guy doesn't make mistakes like the rest, but he RIPS OTHER BLUES CATS OFF LIKE CRAZY

  • Not the Blues...

  • Holy shit!!! Damn good playing here!!!!!

  • All these guys have good looking guitars....... i want a good looking one thats not from chinia.

  • fuck this is great

  • Nice vibrato and nice tone...like this cat. The winner of this competition should get a Blues record deal like American Idol, except not shitty.

  • HOLY CRAP. Excuse me while I change my shorts......... and maybe when I come back this guy can teach me how to melt faces.

  • Thats good shit

  • He would win if his acoustic part was as good as the electric part. Awesome player anyway!

  • hope theres one next year cause i got a chance at this

  • haha he looks and plays like joe perry

  • I just wish for one these guys to play though a simple one channel amp that is cranked up just enough to get that tiny bit of tasty natural distortion and only focused on tone, adventurous melodic runs that don't stretch out too far from the blues and very clean technique... too many fx, ear bleeding distortions, cliches and non blues playing is what I see... meh.

  • @ImOnTheTube This isn't the average blues player from the bar contest. This is the King of Blues. The goal is to be the best player. Unfortunately playing the good ol' fashion blues bass line just isn't going to cut it.

  • @antihax91 Who said anything about average? Simple equipment does not necessarily mean simple music. Fact is if you can't hit the sweet spot of the crowd and judges you'll have to resort to being overwhelming with fx, speed and licks... its much easier to do that... especially if you have the fx.

  • @ImOnTheTube This guy can really play guitar.

  • the first 2 minutes were my style of blues, however, when he started sweep picking. he lost all of the soul that he barely portrayed in his playing. he didnt have the soul that real bluesmen like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Clapton, BB King, Albert King, etc. even slash, although heavily into rock of the 80s, never sweep picked...

  • Yeah...A lot like T-Bone.....!

  • @MyBluesGuitar nothing like him lol

  • @musicain5 Well that was kinda my point ! But I´m sure you understand the joke, right ?

  • @MyBluesGuitar yeah, I got the joke lol

  • This guy should be playin on a metal band!

  • i didnt know that theres massive shredding and sweep picking in blues hahahah

  • Shredding? Yeah right. These people obviously know nothing about the blues. He's not the worlds greatest blues player, but this song is by no means shredding. learn your shit.

  • @oUhOhHEADSHOTo roflol .. this is shredding in EVERY IMAGINABLE WAY...are you kidding me? I've NEVER in my LIFE heard a blues player do this stuff. "learn our shit?" Okay, here's something for you to learn. Blues and Jazz players in their earliest form, when they soloed they actually tried to imitate the human voice. That's why the wah was invented, that's why slide was used, to give voice to the guitar. This guy completely robbed the guitar of any voice at all.

  • I heard way better guitar players than him.

  • AWESOME PLAYER! I don't get the comments about "shredding"...what's up with that and all the derogatory comments...this is pure blues by an incredibly talented musician folks. And he's certainly a lot better in my opinion than the guy that won in the end.

  • this guy gets really annoying after awhile. very robotic.

  • This guy now owns the blues. Next he'll own metal.

  • no damn space. just note after note after note.

    SLOW DOWN MAN.

  • @LedZeppelinisgod100 as they say give it some breathing room

  • @1spati exactly! leave space, compose!

  • he kind of looks like Vai

  • like it

  • actualy to be quite honest with all of you, the shredding technicaly counted because of teh fact that its the same scale idea.

  • 2:04 is he a metal head? lol

  • this guy makes blues his bitch

  • @aerosmith1123 This guy made YOU his Bitch: Gay ass.

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER yeah the same way i made your moms mines last night right

  • @aerosmith1123 Thats pretty fucking lame response...like Dan's playing..predictable and unimaginitive.

  • i just watched all of the king of the blues finalist videos, and in my opinion kirby kelly should not have won. it should have been josh gooch or roosevelt collier. fuckin judges.

  • Guys, He's playing a Gretsch. Brian Setzer is a rockabilly/bluesman who to shreds on a Gretsch. Naturally, Setzer's shredding is a little more "bluesy" but give the guy a break.

  • guys honestly, there are MANY types of BLUES. i know that shredding and burning down the neck isn't traditional, but SRV, Angus Young, Slash, etc. They all play a form of blues, the faster and more technical side of it. It still is blues. Slow blues is great and all, there are other spectrums of it. so just pipe down. Not like these great players care about your bullshit anyways. They rock and i bet most of you trolls can't even play a G cord. XD

  • @DeadMusket Many types of blues? Thanks Captain Obvious. You didn't get the point which doesn't surprise me. You sound like an imbecile when you try berating people here who voice opinions. Can't play a G chord? I would guess most people here could easily kick your lame ass in guitar playing. Easily. You can tell by your comments that you know nothing and love proving it. Go back to your skateboard and X box simpleton.

  • @4001XBASS

2 camels in a tiny car motherfucker! XD

  • @DeadMusket blues was originated by the slaves, and isnt about how fast you can play, and definatly shouldnt be a contest, its all about feeling, if you had any clue what blues is or what it stands for you wouldnt say there are spectrums of it.

  • Blues? Really? Is this or is it not a blues competition? The acoustic stuff was fine. If it was based on just that it would be fine. But the shredding? NOT AT ALL FAIR TO THE TRUE BLUES-PEOPLE! Judges, get a grip. This is a BLUES competition. So if I were to go to a shredding competition and play blues really well, I should win? Seriously? Great player, should NOT have won on the technical point of NOT PLAYING THE BLUES. Ask BB or Albert King if it sounded like blues.

  • @4001XBASS Putting the words "blues" and "competition" in the same sentence doesn't make much sense to start with. Let alone figuring out how the "judging" is done.

  • Obviously the guy's good and has some real talent, but, as stated before, this is shredding to a blues backing band. As soon as he put the guitar behind his head, id'd had enough. I bet his band is good. This, to me, is not blues.

  • like someone spitting all over you to make a point - ok, so you can i play - iT ALL COMES DOWN TO TASTE - this is all about "look what i can do" - i didn't like it. If it's a competition who judges it? The best blues are BLUE - not a showcase for technique, but feeling. This is overly-excited jibberish, no story being told. Competitions are dumb. Among the greats is the best you can be. This is childish - all show, no go.

  • it some sor of blues but i dont know the shredding makes it sound different

  • This guy beat me out in Arlington Hights and I think he should of won compared to the guy who actually won. Much more feeling and I know it was a blues comp but he is still very very skilled in the blues and if you don't think so you know nothing. I will probably see Dan again soon and plan on beating him this time! lol Well I'll try because The King of The Blues is back for 2010!

  • catch dan's band in chicago and around the west side...The West Side Winders...he's a friend and heckofa nice guy. BY the way, the acoustic performance here lacked because of the problems they had with the PA and mics at the time of his performance. Too heavy on the lows and not high enough on the highs. I think his skill level is equally amazing on acoustic.....Johnny Ray

  • This is sweet!

  • Damn, turn up the guitar a little?

  • holy crap

  • 5 stars

  • diaz i would like to see you do what hes doing u douche

  • omg he's hella beasty 02:44

  • Way to go Dan, sounding badass.

FuzzFunk, I hate to say it but shredding is

the way of the blues these days. Just listen to Walter Trout, Joe Bonomassa,

Tommy Castro, Tinsley Ellis or Smokin'

Joe Kubek. Some guys still manage to

    do it tastefully, more don't.

  • @nixjag1 O i know man im just so not one to find speed impressive i mean i know when i hear someone play and i get a chill down my body that they have got it rite ya know? I mean i can listen to shred just rather not. Many people do it i like originality like Tom Morello who has his own sound totally different with shred blues and his rap guitar stuff its awesome

  • you gotta know this aint the man when hes payin more attention to facial expressions and flipping his hair than he is playing the blues.

  • i like his electric guitar stuff but don't think the acoustic work is as strong :/

  • He is real good but i dont think his shredding is blues material :/

  • @TheFuzzFunk yes but don't forget it is a competition

  • @TheFuzzFunk thats not shredding, hes playing the same pentatonic blues scales and playing all of that blues influenced stuff, hes playing a lot of stuff that slash would play, and slash is considered blues rock

  • @austinhull20 this isn't "King of the Blues Rock" ... it's king of the blues. It's no surprise to me that this guy didn't win...I mean the guy's good, but when he gets up there going acid trip like that, I'm have a hard time trying to find B.B. King at the AC/DC show. It kind of makes him look like a hack.

  • @austinhull20 Its opinion. Whats shred to me might not sound like shred to you. I honestly mean no offense man. I respect your opinion. Peace.

  • @austinhull20 well when u look at it it IS shredding i mean yeah from a technical point its in the pentatonic but cmon thats not quite bluesy if u ask most pp

  • @austinhull20 hey dont even compare him to slash, hes playing lots of phrases that slash has no idea how to write, im talking about major rips, intervallic leaps, ala zakk wylde across the neck rips, all of that shit

  • @austinhull20 slash is shit rock.

  • @TheFuzzFunk ~ playing the blues is a feeling not an individual style. "shredding" as you call it, has it's place in all music. All that matters is how one applies it. Just my thought, please don't send a responce if an argument is going to rise up out of it. 2 Fingers Brother :)

  • @TheFuzzFunk you don't undestand - if you're competed in King of the Blues, you know that this isn't a blues contest - it's a guitar playing contest. the ghost of Jimi Hendrix probably wouldn't win if he entered

  • @Omgshoes017 I mean that would suck if Jimi's Ghost was in and lost haha These guys are real good musicians. I love how everyone wants to rip me one cause i called it shredding people you know what i mean when u think blues do u think Malmsteen? nah i think stevie ray and hendrix even Page.
