  • Does that accept regular carpet blades? Thinking about getting one!!

  • Comment removed

  • Dude, gloves... Where are they?

  • Just out of curiosity, why aren't you wearing gloves? It seems common sense to me especially when working with a razor blade.

  • this looks like too much work for me.i'll pass

  • is it ok to brain tan and smoke for a hide your wanting to mount?

  • god dammit put some gloves on

  • It's called the Yellow thing. I sell them on the helpinghandhanger website

  • what kind of knife is that?

  • Lol actually I thought it was a vid about taxidermy from lenore the cute little dead girl.

  • What is the white powder you keep sprinkling on the hide while working?

  • @renaeparsons I think he called it Borax

  • @steveyodog Thanks. :)

  • hmm... nice video.. i think however, wether or not you do is your business, but on a video to millions of idiots who dont think with logic, you maybe should have promoted gloves and safety especially while using a razor.

  • Does salt kill bacteria?

  • @kerridge10 salt draws the oils and moisture from the hide so it doesnt rot after mounting. in a way i guess it can, but the tanning does more to kill bacteria and prevent its growth

  • @C21H23ClFNO2 WTH?

  • @marco21falcon look up "body worlds"

  • Very gross but also very interesting.

  • wow. I didnt know so much detail went into it!

  • do you have to use stop rot if you use dry preserve??

  • I want to do this but it looks awfully complicated and fidley, would you say it is worth the tremendous effort?

  • hey every one. i have a question about taxidermy. if i bring the deer to the taxidermist can they do the following for me. shoulder mount, deer hoof gun rack. and can they do anything with the coat for me? thanks for your time.

  • @NYmosVids

They can... but at a big price :S

  • @NYmosVids how are we supposed to know? ask your taxidermist.

  • you do you do smaller? and smaller and smaller?

  • Interesting!!

  • this makes me hungry

  • how do you tan your hids i was thinking about using ez 2000 wwear you dont have to salt and pickel what you think

  • @saranistuka No, it would be rotten by now.

  • Wow! That's very delicate work...and brave! Amazing to watch a pro in action.

  • hey after ur done fleshing the coon can u use it as a rug or make a hat or is there another step to finish the pelt?

  • It has to be tanned first.

  • I couldn't do that barehanded. ;x

  • how did u get into taxidermy?

  • well first i think you have to attend some classes thta range from 1000 to 8000 dllrs... im not sure but i know a school that charges 6000 for a 6 week class period ... and then you go from there... start your own busines and stuff...

  • lol. coool. i was just curious cuz most of the taxidermists ive met are all "self taught"

  • yup ...most taxidermist grew up around this kind of stuff and were lucky to learn something from it ...

me in the other hand grew up in a ranch back in ol mexico, grew up as a vaquero .... but im interested in taking some classes to learn and do it commercially ....iv been taking some big deer this past years ...

  • some people watch this to learn don't be an idiot

  • @a98tacoma And thats why your watching it huh

  • gloves? are you gay?

  • no he/she is not gay he/she is smart to ask such a question.

but YOU, you are truly stupid to say that :)

    have a nice day idiot

  • He needs to wear them cos the fish could have something that could infect him.

  • Just one little thing I noticed...I may be a bit paranoid but isn't it a bit dangerous to be working with the skin of a wild animal without gloves of somekind? I would think it would be safer to at least wear surgical gloves in case of any cuts or sores on your hands that bacteria could get into.

  • Why do you do taxidermy? How do you do it? As in isn't it disgusting cutting an animal?

  • Then why there is doctors?

  • some say yes some say no......

  • As per the "How do you do it?" question, the website has more helpful info :)

  • I ordered the backwoods new blade holder as seen on this video, works awesome, blades are sharp but with curved ends as not to cut through hides. I love the blade holder, way to go backwoods taxidermy!

  • are human can also be taxidermy

  • Question, I am tanning a deer hide right now and I am having some problems de-hairing it. I have had it soaking in a lime-water-wood ash mixture for about a month. I have rechanged the mixture a few times and stir it daily. So far the hair has not started to slip. Any suggestions? Does temperature matter?

  • what is taxidermy? how is it related to mummification? does anyone have any answers for me? I NEED HELP!!! MENTAL TAXIDERMY HELP AND HOW ITS LIKE MUMMIFICATION LIKE IN OLD EGYPT!!!!!

  • no it is about stuffing and mounting animals

i think...... IF this is not correct someone correct me please!

  • can you use that spray on dead birds...?

if so where can i buy it..?

  • good working

  • Skin I meant.Not pelt.

  • You should definately do a video on how to flesh a coyote pelt.I have an idea of how to do it but Im not sure if Im getting at it good. The pelt should look white by the time your done right?

  • Not really, it's the tanning process that makes it white(or cream colored).

There are two pain-in-the-ass processes to go through to sell your coyote pelt, first you do all the tedious fleshing work, then you do the either a.)long, hard, and even more tedious tanning job that may or may not work, or b.)pay a tannery to probably do it right.

Do a little Google research before you run off blowing dog heads off and spamming eBay with shitty green pelts that'll rot in the mail. :/

  • Oh ok.I've skinned several since I made that comment and have it down pretty good I think. Its a pain in the ass but I've gotten pretty good at skinning and fleshing them.If you sell them you dont have to tan them. But if your going to keep them you have to.I havent tryed to tan any of them yet but I have the stuff to tan them with.

  • Ah, probably should have looked at the posted date.

Eh, I just hate it when people put pelts on eBay then call them tanned when they're obviously not(and the person was too stupid to know the difference/do some research).

I've only tried egg-tanning(the only easily accessible tanning agent in a city.), the hard part is just making them soft. It's definitely something to try at least once.

  • Its cool dont worry bout it.There are fur buyers all over my state but I just havent sold any yet.I ordered some stuff thats called Hide Tanning Formula but as I mentioned I just havent got to try it out yet. From the instructions on the bottle it doesnt sound too difficult but I'll probably try it out on a coyote pelt first just in case.I dont wanna mess up a bobcat pelt.

  • So is all of this necessar if your going to sell coyote pelts and things like that?I know your supposed to flesh it and everything but is it necessary to worry about all of the tedious work like the nose, lips and eyes?

  • I have used your videos for my first mounted deer and words cannot explain how helpful they were. I want to thank you for taking the time to video your talent. I wish there were more.

I accidentally received a part two deer video when I purchased a pheasant video but yours is much better than the one I received from Van Dykes.

My next project will be a coon, mink, pheasant, squirel and fox.

I really enjoy doing this kind of work.

    Thanks again.

  • good video. Thank you.

  • Thanks. Good video for being free. When are ya going to post the next series?
