We moved to Australia in August 1982 and I was very home sick, but when I heard this song, it made me feel good. Wish that Brisbane was still like that, without all the ugly highrises!
@edamse I agree with you. Not only that, Campbell Newman has sanctioned all these tunnels, toll bridges and by-passes and all but butchered the simplistic beauty of the inner-city area. I believe "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". By being Mr. Fix-It he's made the problem of pollution and traffic congestion 10 times worse than what it was prior to 2000. :-(
I grew up in Brisbane and loved the place. I always loved this song and used to have it on a 45 record, wish I still did. I wish they would remaster it or something and make it available for download. it still tugs at my heart after all these years
Watching this back in 1983 always made me want to move to Brisbane. I loved this song. Now I live in Brisbane and wish I didn't. It's a horrible place now. Still love this song though. If anyone has copy on the old 45 single, please let me know, would love a copy of it.
Tears in my eyes. This brings back so many memories. :) How I wish that fountain was still there,in fact any fountain! Brisbane is devoid of them since the present Mayor took over. : (
@marlenb1943 Brisbane looks so fucked up now ever since they built all those tunnels and toll bridges. It ought to be renamed "Tollbridgebane". The whole of the Woollongabba and Lutwyche/Kedron area has been butchered beyond recognition by the developers and nobody wants to use the toll bridges. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Oh dear, tears in my eyes watching this. So many memories. How I'd love to see that fountain back. Campbell has made it a dry old city now, nary a fountain to be found anywhere. :(
@Mariofan69 Brisbane in the 70's and mid 80's was a pretty craddy and corrupt place when the Bjelke-Petersen dictatorship was in place. It's grown up quite a bit but also progressed in the wrong ways. Have a read of the book "Pig City - From The Saints To Savage Garden' sometime, you can get it on amazon.com
I love this song so much Kim rocks she has an a amazing powertful stunning voice. I keep in touch with her she e-mailed me today and I was so happy and hopefully she is going to send me 2 signed photos of her with my name on a 80's one and a current one. I was wondering if someone could rip me all of the Kim Durant Love YOu Brisbane, Love You Perth and Love You Queensland promos onto DVD so I can watch them whenever I want and I can show my friends who she is. Love you always Kim you rock xx.
I have always been a big fan of Kim Durant and also still have my 45rpm of Love You Brisbane bought at the Ch 7 shop in Surfers Paradise in the early 80's. These clips have brought back great memories :)
Now if only Channel 7 in Brisbane can do the same before November, as the sole slogan people remember vividly from 7 Brisbane in the 1980's is, Love You Brisbane.
I still own a copy of the 45rpm. single of the "Love You Brisbane" theme song by Kim released in 1983 (I was hlolidaying in Brisbane at the time!). It is STILL in mint condition!
Actually, I've been living in Toowoomba for the last 4 years & I'm a Broncos supprter, so I have EVERY reason to play it, but unfortunatly, I don't have the room for a turntable setup (I live in a bus!) but will attempt to re-master it on CD one day! Kim Durant has a Facebook page. I added an invite to her friends list 3 weeks ago, but as yet, I've had no reply, maybe she doesn't want to be my friend?? :-(
COOL! It's nice to meet a fellow "Toowoomba-ite" (if that is a word!) It's a small world indeed. I used to live at the Golden Harvest Motor Village (Bridge & Boundary) but am now near USQ. Hope to stay in contact! Cheers!
I reckon that BTQ7 should use this again in this format - a little walk back in time never hurt anything...after all, they still re-run A Country Practice on Fox lol!
No TV man, No GottaLoveIt, No 6pm news promotion, just the original song and slogan. Bring Back Love You Brisbane in 2009 with Durant and the Wak, please 7!
Definately no TV man, and definitely no GottaLoveIt, just pure 'Love You Brisbane' with Kim and the Wickety Wak boys - come on BTQ Seven, bring back loyal viewers in 2009!!!!
Don't you mean, what's left of their archives... as some crazy Sydney exec ordered the destruction of 35 years of footage some time in 2007 to make more space in the already stripped back Brisbane facility.
Ok kuttsywood I'll have to take your word for that. Just further proof of my throy that for more of this gold to appear on YouTube we're relying totally on people's private collections. Bloody Sydney Siders.
Totally agree, if it wasn't for Youtube and the contributions made by people, these treasures would be lost to many who have fond memories of classic Australian television.
But yet we want as I always say, the older better promo. Love You Queensland in my eyes does not do justice to the people who religiously watch the Flashbacks on Sunday night, I.E the "Love You Brisbane" generation. We want Kim back doing what we would love to hear on 7 again. What I would give for 7 to close the 2008 Olympics by returning the Love You Brisbane slogan back to our screens for BTQ's fiftieth birthday!
All I can say....bring back Love You Brisbane with Kim and Wickety Wak.....then I will first to blow out BTQ Seven's 50th birthday candles...I just don't know why they don't, a real mystery to me......
Wow! At 01:57, she's walking past Hungry Jack's, which is in it's exact same location today... Except back then, it was not the Queen Street Mall. Cars were driving along Queen Street. It's amazing to see.
I just love this - am waiting ever so patiently for BTQ-7 to bring back this original performed by Kim !!! Interesting that the old Seven National News ticker on the corner of Queen and Albert shows 'Hold up Overnight' - not the best message to include in this promo for Brisbane back then.....
Watched the funeral for Clem Jones on 7(with commercials) & 9 (commercial-free),and they played "Love You Brisbane" at the funeral. It made me (and a lot of other people) cry. The version they played (acoustic) is what they should use if 7 ever brings it back (which they should bring back, soon.)
By the looks of these comments 7 brought back the wrong slogan. when we got an updated version, we wanted the old "Love You Brisbane" not the new "Love You Queensland". Out with the new and in with the old I say!
Riverfire is coming up, Seven telecast though. I know, refuse to watch Riverfire on 7 unless "Love You Brisbane is reinstated as BTQ-7's slogan over all network slogans (i.e GOTTALOVEIT).
I honestly think someone up there is watching these and reading our comments, because the news on 5-8-07 had a story on the EKKA from 1978 ($2.50 entry, 70c rides etc)
Oh my God - what a blast from the past!! Channel 7 used to play this before the start of Boris' Breakfast club at 7AM during the week - I was busy getting my weatbix ready for me and my wee bro, while this was playing!!
Now we are back home in N Ireland, were its a bit messed up to say the least. Great to see this again!
wow, look at that top she's wearing...talking about getting her Brisbane landmarks out... Anyway I can't believe Hungry Jacks has been on the corner of Queen and Albert streets for so long, even before Queen st became a mall!
Thanks for the memories. When I was a kind in Brissy, I like many others just adored this song. Interesting that Seven has just brought it back as "Love You Queensland". Not as good as Kim's version though!!!
Who sang the original version of Love You Brisbane that was used by Channel 7 before Kim Durant recorded it?
