  • I would like to have Nick Mason as a grand father

  • in this day and age floyd would have never made it

  • My props to the positive comments, but some of the rest of you have your heads up your asses. I was there, I was in recording studios watching how they did stuff. How on earth do people become so arrogant as to disparage Pink Floyd? Is it just bad drugs, lol . . . Seriously, screw you people. You are IDIOTS who weren't there!!!

  • @Pexster And that's what it is, IDIOTS. You are right. We will NEVER see a band like this again. Never, ever, ever. They will stand for all time.

  • That last little comment proves musicians where better back in the day without any doubt (not that there was any lol) because they had less tech back in the day and still made better music which still sounds better on the ear than the shite on the telly nowadays. this will always be the case in my opinion. Music has hit a massive wall, lol bigger than pinks wall! I ca't see a way forward for music anymore, it's really sad.

  • A very good interview - thanks for uploading. 11/11/11

  • ThePiccettino YOU SHOULD SHUT THE FUCK UP AND FOCUS ON DOING WORTH LISTENING MUSIC (OR ANYTHING WORTH) INSTEAD OF JUST CONSUMING SOMEONE ELSE'S PRODUCTS AND GRATUITLY CRITICIZE... :)

  • Nick Mason should shut up and must scramble to make a beautiful statue to Syd!!

  • @ThePiccettino And you of course have accomplished more than Nick Mason, since your running your mouth....

  • @danimal97520 dear , I see that you understand the way the fly of my comment .... you are a genius .... come on, do not be so aggressive, I love you too!!!Peace & Love!!!;;

  • Ironic really, Nick Mason couldn't wait to get Syd out the band + had no sympathy whatsoever for his condition.

  • I think Piper is a bit overstated as a "cut-down pop album". Half of the album is instrumental, including the long "Interstellar Overdrive". In fact, I think the album has a very time-dilating feel. I haven't even used psychedelic drugs yet, but the album still feels like it lasts a very long time.

That being said, their live stuff is amazing. The music shines even through some of the crappiest-sounding bootlegs. I hope what Nick's saying means they'll put out that 1967 unreleased live show.

  • I think "Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk" is an awesome song, ONLY because of the crazy jam session and all the time signature changes. Most of the track is instrumental and is the work of ALL band members, similar to their live jams. Roger just lended a bit of lyrics to the freak-out.

But Set the Controls is probably the first studio song Roger could actually say was his work. And BOTH Syd and David played guitar on it.

  • bands will come and go but this band, the 'greatest band ever' yet or to be live' or studio'

  • So underrated

  • @MrMeddled Youre right, its doesnt have phasing, but it's got flanging. And the way Nick described it was wrong. You fed whatever sound you wanted to be flanged to a mono tape recorder and used varispeed to get the precise effect by adjusting the tape speed electronically & feed it back to the mixer while the band is making a mix. All the effects were always added while mixing reduction mixes (bouncing to another tape so more overdubs can be added) or the final mixes.

  • @MrMeddled I think Nick meant the Beatles 'Blue Jay Way' which does feature flanging, and, as you say, they usually used a varispeed control on one of two tape machines synched together to do the flanging, not using their hands.

  • @astrophonix Nick Mason is right. Listen to the mono version of Lucy, which has very pronounced effects on John's vocals. Really psychedelic, compared to the demo feel the stereo version has.

Geoff Emerick accidentally discovered it when a box was rubbing against a portion of the flange of the tape reel. Then realizing what was going on, Emerick and George Martin found out how to make it more pronounced. Most likely used their hands. Lucy in the Sky was one of the first songs to have this.

  • well nick, we will never know what you where doing live cause you hate bootlegs,

  • doctor doctor was a good claim anyway for the moment

  • got to love him.

  • Nick is so underrated as a drummer and a contributor to the band. People who don't like him need to listen to Dark Side of the Moon and before and then look up what he's done.

  • Mr. Mason you are pink as you have been the biggest constant throughout Pink Floyd's history.

  • @MrMeddled I was actually referring to Pepper, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds specifically.

  • @MrMeddled Are you listening to the stereo mixes, or the mono? They're, uh, pretty different.

  • @Tenniru The stereo version of Piper sucks. It makes the band sound like amateurs, ruined by an amateurish mix with a bunch of missing effects. I bet Syd never even heard the stereo, while the mono is the one he spent his time perfecting. It's the only Pink Floyd album you need in mono.

  • @MrMeddled I'm just going to go ahead and trust that Nick Mason knows a tad more about music and music production than you do.

  • i wanna go driving with nick mason with floyd blasting out :) shine on nick, your a star!

  • I'm Comfortably Numb of your Music!

If everyone of you like my comment rise your hand ;)

  • @Ldale11.... Doctor Doctor was the working title... the band rarely refer to their songs by the full name. For example... as opposed to "another brick in the wall" they just call it "brick"

  • I only wish this was like 5 hours long

  • El muerto no es el mejor baterista...pero es parte de una banda halucinogena pesada. Pero no se a muerto....lo quemo como un toke de mota

  • y este muerto?...

  • I love nick, he is the very british member of the band and ofcourse he plays drum in his unique way, indeed when he plays, he makes not many movements as other drummers do, but you hear a lot of sound coming out of his instrument. it's really amazing.

  • Absolute legend!

  • fucking legend

  • Brilliant music, brilliant songwriting, as evidence by their music still being extremely popular in 2011, and their music started in the 1960's...amazing.

  • so rare to see something like this... amazing

  • Nice video... now you plug something and there it is......

  • Nick is the worlds most underrated drummer in the world.

  • Nick, Dave & Roger doing THE WALL live next year would be the concert people would talk about 30 years from now. C'mon guys give us all one last outing.

  • DEMOS from 1965-1966? RELEASE that stuff right now.

  • @polvotone I'm sure they will be included when "Piper" gets the "Immersion" treatment that Nick is promoting here.

  • @polvotone just look online for the bootlegged stuff. These ROIOs have all sorts of great music. I'm sure if you dug hard enough you can find the demos he is talking about. As for the live stuff, you'll definitely be able to find that. I don't condone downloading copyrighted music illegally but some of these ROIOs are great. I have Wembley Wizards which is a show from DSOTM. It's included in the upcoming immersion set. I'm still going to buy the set the day it comes out.

  • @jbelcher74 Oh I have all the Syd Barrett stuff out there. Nick Mason has some Syd stuff that no one has heard.

  • Roger's lyrics on "Dark Side" always seemed timeless to me, just like Nick mentioned..."whether you're twenty something or fifty something." I would really like to have had one last chance to see them LIVE. Alas, it would seem I missed the last chance I will ever have. PORT LAVACA, TX. USA STILL LOVES YA GUYS!

  • please! subs for the non-English speakers!

  • 5 minutes and 14 seconds? Did he just pop in in his tea break?

  • love this. I love hearing Nick talk about the old days; he's so nostalgic for it.

  • Fantastic clip there, I'd love to see the whole thing.

  • Nick best drummer !! R.I.P Syd and Rick

  • @RogelyW i agree 100000 % miss alonso

  • 'Doctor Doctor'? He must mean 'Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk'.

  • @Ldale11 It's funny how band members forget certain things about their own work, whereas the fans know more about their stuff than they do.

  • @Ldale11 I think that may have been what they called it in the studio, a "working" title if you will. You are still correct though.

  • Syd, what a rare genius - Shine On, RIP.

  • Pink Floyd, best band ever!

  • Comment removed

  • love you guys good bless you for give us the best music!

  • nick best drummer ever on the face of the planet

  • R.I.P Syd

  • @kingsergio128 And Rick. :(
