i respect that but by saying keep it black you are being just as bad as the white folks generations ago who started this whole mess. that is just another form of segregation every body is human and therefore the same. race is a made up thing i dont believe in it
Wonderful song and great message. Black Unity is great in theory, but I doubt that it'll ever happen. We have to do better though; not to prove others wrong but just to do well ourselves. I'm also sick of Blacks killing each other. I don't think that we all have to love each other, but we could at least stop hating on each other.

Musical genius...often imitated never duplicated. His message of the 1960 and 1970 are still relevant today. No one (IMO) can match his caliber today .
What else is there to say about this? THe ultimat tribute any of us can give to Curtis Mayfield is this....When I listen to this it makes me want to be a better person. The best American music since the Jazz/Standard era.
Listen to the message, we are "Darker Than Blue" Light skin or dark skin, we are still Darker than Blue. Don't be so hung up on complexions. Stick together my people!!!
only started listening to curtis mayfield in the last couple of years.makes me wonder what other briliant music ive missed.this song is so good it makes me want to cry.
Far and away Curtis Mayfield's best album, and this is certainly one of the standout tracks. The Superfly Curtis was alright but his early albums and his Impressions work is where he really shines.
curtis is so amazing, your music is a flow like the air, like the sun.. your music is a litle miracle to god...i'm brazilian and i see how your song is universal..tanks to this job..god bless you... listen too "azimuth" and "toni tornado" "jorge ben"... stay real..
I love Curtis for all of his string instruments that were being played in his music. You heard everything from drums to piano, to bangles and violins. And he played alot of his own instruments. I love Curtis so much because his music touches my soul, and I grow whenever I hear his music, especially pieces such as this. He reminds me of King David from, The Holy Bible, in the book of Psalms. David spoke the truth too, and so did Curtis. They would have gotten along great!
well here's my top 10 best soul music voices after serious analyzing (In my opinion) 1. David Ruffin 2. Marvin Gaye 3. Curtis Mayfield 4. Otis Redding 5. Al Green 6. Eddie Kendricks 7. Smokey Robinson 8. Sly Stone 9. Harold Melvin 10.Bobby Womack/Jerry Butler (TIE)
im a white boy but i loved curtis with a passion and i can feel where hes at with this song. what a class act. the early 70's sure were the golden days of black music. when i hear the shit black artists put out now it makes my heart sink. but then, all music, black and white, has gone downhill so far from these days. curtis mayfield - what a man
Honestly, its across the board. Think about. Mayfield had contemparies like bob Dylan, Lennon, Neil Young, Carol King, Jim Croce, Marvin Gaye and a few other writers who wrote important lyrics, and powerful music. Greatness within is brought out from the greatness of others. People during that period did music to sound like their own but also be different at the same time. The mentality now is not there.
I heard this song when it originally came out, yes im a boomer, a fine one at this, so sad that this feeling is still prevelant today...you tell it curtis!
This song is too deep to really analyze and do it justice. My thoughts of the song talks about inner prejudice within black culture and how we should realize regardless of the shade of skin we still fight the same struggles . That may be just me.
What makes this so emotional that this song STILL applies today. Todays music is where the lyrics accompany the beat but in this the music accompanies the lyrics which makes it eve more dynamic. Curtis Mayfield, a true artist!
this song lyrics still ring true to this day.Curtis wrote all that is happening in America.. He was a great writer and singer. Another lost to the heavens.. Rest in peace, curtis
I constantly have to make sure my bucket is completely empty before coming the well of Curtis Mayfield. A Ghetto Psalmist, a visionary who prophesied about what is called "THE NOW"..Thank you Curtis for not just playing your instrument, but for being one..Peace, brother!
inI never dreamed when i was playing Curtis' joints in a band, as percussionist, in 1971, that this tune would still be right on target today in 2007. samsara never changes, just fools the I.
Unfortunately this song needs to be heard today because much has not changed. It might have gotten worse in out community. Because at least music like this was being made 40years ago and was popular. Nothing is be made like this anymore that is popular.
I just got put on to Curtis but But My Fav song is People Get Ready, but I'm really playin this song over and over!!! CLASSIC and I love The Claudine Soundtrack also. RIP CURTISSSSSSSSSSSSSS Mayfield!!!
Curtis is just awesome. I love the idealism of the early 70s Soul scene. Curtis, Hayes, Stevie, Marvin, The Dramatics, The Delphonics, The Spinners, The Chi-Lites....The most underrated music around. Curtis was a genius who wasn't a self promoter..just an artist.
