when you save the .nef, it should save all the adjustment steps you made too. the original is not changed, and can get back to it under "version". batching raw to jpg won't wipe the raws.
Ok saving in .nef saves the adjustment steps but when I open it up in photoshop its back to the original Raw Nef image that I shoot without any adjustments? The only way I found to work around this is saving in Tiff then opening in photoshop.
One odd thing is when I open in NX2 my exposure is how I shot it. When I open the images in anything else they are overexposed by a full stop!?! Even in PS or Bridge. Or in any image for Mac???
Have any ideas about that? did Nikon do something to the coding so it would look bad except their own program?
i read somewhere that only nx2 reads the settings in ur camera fully. u gotta remember all raw formats are proprietary (except dng) so other softwares may not fully extract raw data correctly.
Ok so that explains such a big change. I had a client think I my exposure were Really bad. I always shot in Jepg with Fuji before worked out great. If they made a camera like D700 I would buy it oh well. I guess I have to buy NX2 but its so darn slow and I edit HD on my computer go figure. They really need to get a faster engine or something. Otherwise I like the program.
enjoyed the tutorial thanks. Still thinking (as a beginner) about the categorization/xmpp "best practices", what to do in nx2 or other tools, and also how to browse/search later.
Just looking at DAM tools which I guess nx2 isn't.
I'm trying to shoot achitectural exterior/interior with mixed lighting. For example, a dusk shot of a house with interior lights on. via NEF auto WB. When editing in NX2, changing the WB to Incandescent gets the interior & patio correct, but puts a dark blue onto the sky & yard. I've tried using Color Control Points & '-' Selection Brush to remove the blue with limited success. What CCP sliders should I use to remove Incandescent WB? Fluorescent WB?
Hi, I high lighted the Fit Photo and Sharpen adjustment steps and right-click to save. In your video, only those two steps have check mark in the dialog. But in mine, the other adjustment steps are checked also, not just the high lighted steps. I wonder why that is?
yes. when you resave the nef (raw) file, it does not overwrite the original image. in fact, nx2 supports versions, so you can store multiple edits non-destructively. and get back to the pure original image anytime.
Hey, came over from dpreview message boards to check this out... Amazing work, really thank you for showing me all this stuff. I was only using maybe 10% of the entire program beforehand, so hoping to apply some of this stuff on my own work. :)
Thanks so much. Excellent!

When I save a photo I did work on and I stay in NEF, it will save the photo but without any of my changes???
Do I always have to save it as a TIFF or JPG to save my changes?

Good to know about the Not Wiping Part!
Ok saving in .nef saves the adjustment steps but when I open it up in photoshop its back to the original Raw Nef image that I shoot without any adjustments? The only way I found to work around this is saving in Tiff then opening in photoshop.
Is there something wrong I am doing?
Thanks for your help!

i guess ps is unable to read those steps in .nef, so tiff is the way to go....

Ok at least I know I am doing it right and there is no other way.
Thanks for your help!!!

When I change the photo in NX2 will the original be changed?
Also if I batch change all the photos from Raw to Jpg like you did will that wipe out my files?
I want to make the same images for print and web so a lot will be JPG then the ones I pick later will be in TIFF
Thanks

Local adjust of WB in CaptureNX2?

to get rid of the blue, in ccp, select rgb sliders (instead of default bcs) and decrease blue and increase red.
you could also try "colour balance" adjustment and do the same, but then "paint" and apply it to the blue outdoors.

thank thank u thank u! Now i wondered why i even bothered using photoshop also to soften & sharpen. So much time wasted!

I shoot in AdobeRGB, when I save to jpeg with NX2, how can I tell it to use sRGB?
cleverwitty 2 years ago
you have to goto the menu "assign -> color profile" and convert it.

i think you'll need to use something like photoshop to add text or watermarks....

Thanks! That's what I'm doing now.

So when you saved, did you save over the original image?
