He's most famous for the TV show SCTV and, probably, the movie Planes Trains and Automobiles with Steve Martin. He was a very good comic actor who was usually better than the movies he was in. He died in 1994, aged 43, heart attack, while filming a movie in Mexico.

I'm glad you typed The Great Outdoors twice.. Because I think it was the funniest movie he had a major role in. So it was a typo but a well deserved typo.
