Of course problems that would plague this country in the 00s were brewing in the 90s. The fact that nearly none were solved, and most reached their boiling point in this decade is the reason I would agree that Time's characterization is correct. It was an awful decade of irresponsibility, escapism, and the worst popular music in history. Ok, just had to throw that last one in.

The decade is not over until next year, but I think this pretty much sums it up.

Not to focus on just the negative, but I really feel this decade was the 'naughties', as too many groups became parties of 'no'.

With the boiling pot of 9/11 'truthers', the IDers, the AGW Denialists, Anti-Vaccinationists, and least not the alternative medicine advocates, more people than ever seemed to just say no and deny any real evidence before them.

Its sad, but must be addressed-there are millions of Americas who do not think critically and easily fall prey to snake oil salesmen.
