They strobe to 'hypnotize' their prey. The prey sees the glowing, flashing light and they go into a sort of trance, therefore, leaving them helpless.

I learned in a Marine Biology class that they make the triangular pulsing for mating or something. Maybe if I flashed triangles I could get laid too... I bet Hugh Hefner used it to lure teenage women into a mansion and made them wear halloween costumes... Damnit we need to listen to Cuttlefish, they know their way around the Cuttlebitches!
