@viggoM35 It was fixed a few days later with a new carb, the slide was damaged... But I still love the way people are answering the query almost 4 years later... lol..
check/change the oil. i accadently drove mine with out any for like, 3 months n it wouldent idle then die out. after gettin the oil runnin it idled perfectly.
might be a good time to rebuild the carb. at least take it apart and clean it out check the parts for wear. Like trastic says, I've had an issue with that brass piece as well.
What you might want to check is the tower breather. It is located in the bowl of the carb. Make sure that no settlement has formed inside of it. If it has then take a fine needle or a pin and clean it out. "BE CAREFUL IT'S NOT REMOVABLE" What happened with mine is that the tower breather was pluged and it would airlock the bowl starving the engine for fuel. It would not want to idle down and then when it did it would choke out. Hope that helps.
There is a brass part in the venture of the carburetor that the needle slides into. You have to remove the main jet to get to it. Once replaced, it usually solves the idleing problem, and I bet thats whats wrong with yours...
Absolutely, basically any slide carburetor whether it be Honda, Kawasaki, Suziki, or Yamaha. Doesn't matter is it is a 4, 3, or 2 wheeler, they all work the same!!
There is one thing that is over looked on these hondas is the needle valve in the slide of your carb, they sometimes need adjusting. I have a 1984 honda 200es that had an idle problem when I installed a totally new carb and slide assembly, it would backfire and had a porr idle. Ok, there is a C clip on the needle valve ,reset the C clip 2 notches from the bottom tip of the needle valve, if that does not work try another notch.
You are right about people overlooking the clip placement, but not in my case, I now know these carbs inside out and have tried hundreds of variations to get the best for all my trikes...all of which have lately had either new carbs or carb rebuilds...
My Fatcat has the same problem, i hope it isn't what your saying... only thing is, when i go to the carb and pull on the throttle cable next to the carb, it down idles fine. Only when i use the twist throttle. If anyone can give me a tip, I'd appreciate it.
not idleing down right away and staying high idle after a good blip of the throttle is because the pilot jet is too lean , turn the choke on and see if that takes care of it , if so adjust the mixture screw , or get a bigger pilot jet
its the timing i bet this is an old issue but from reading this and knowing that the dent in the carb slide was fixed and it was still the same, means to me that the timing chain has slack in it and playing with the timing can make up for it, that is until the timing chain breaks or wears enough shavings into the motor that its fubar
My old 200e did the exact same thing. When I first started it the motor would run high, then I would put it in gear and the rpm's drop, I put in back in neutral and the rpm's stay low, until I rev it and they stayed up, until I put it in gear again.
You guys are idiots its not carb... Turn up the idle or the idle cord is out of place becuase when you hit the throttle it stays reving cuase the idles up turn it down and try and get exact measure ment or amount .
It turned out that when I pulled the carb apart the idle screw had wore a deep pit in the slide so when it was set right without revs it was ok, but when you throttled it, the screw was sticking on the burr on the slide and not letting it drop...
ok when you start it do I put the choke lever all the way down, in the middle or all the way up? I just got mine and am not sure, also let me know what you find out is wrong cause im having the same problem
hey.i had that all the time.i missed with mine all the time.theres a littel screw on the carb..just miss with that..i have a 200 honda trike..any problems just ask me.
Carb has been stripped and cleaned two or three times now, slide changed cause it had a wear dent in side. everything is redone with instant gasket. Still no change...
But I would tend to believe it is deffo something to do with the carb, so maybe a replacement...
YEs i had the same thing happen to me you need to do the air ajustment and the idle at the same time and now i never have a problem.

Make sure it's not sucking air around the intake boot.Or if there are holes.Have it running and spray ether at and around the boot.

Your probably right bud, I rebuilt this carb a while back and was amazed at how much the needle and various other bits had wore...
I would reccommend anyone with an old carb to spend the few quid and but a rebuild kit...
