human cruelty against animals in western country has become a disgrace in civilized world. britain should stop these types of sports which misuses animals for an gambling industry which kills savegely the innocent animals .
We have five rescue sighthounds, so I already know what torture they endure, it always shocks me to see it though, and still when I tell people they think I'm lying, if only more people saw these video's maybe something would & could be done quicker, keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching Skyeblue, its not a 'feel good' video..but there again, what in greyhound racing has a 'feel good' aspect to it?
Tell people the RSPCA dont lie, the Sunday Times doesnt lie, the All Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare doesnt lie, we are all telling the truth. The only liars are those who depend on greyhound racing for money!
This is so sad. Many UK/Irish greyhounds have also ended up in Spain and have also been discarded after their time on the track or have been regarded useless in coursing.
I'll post a video reply to this film so you can see for yourselves. I'm sure not ALL discard their dogs but too many as far as I am concerned. You only have to go to the greyhound database and see the adoption pages.
Same old tosh...Recycled pictures from years ago...Some of them are not even from the UK. You can't make your case with facts so you just make it up. Greyhound racing in the UK has cleaned up its act but you're shouting so loud that you can't hear it.
I must just say, although I am against greyhound racing, I think compaigning for better treatment of the live animals is a better way forward than complaining of the disposal methods. It is an unfortunate aspect of any of these racing industries, horse racing, greyhound racing etc, that there will need to be a 'method of disposal'. Thousands of animals are put down every year as is because there arent enough homes for them and its unlikely 10,000 greyhounds would be able to rehomed every year.
Of course I am against simply shooting the dogs or dumping them in a river with a lump of concrete, but if the animals are humanely euthanised and used to teach Veterinary students how to treat and care for animals, surely that is a better way for them to go that the others? Yes, it is still terrible that so many are killed each year, but I wouldnt use the fact that some go to the RVC as an argument.
I don't consider the exploitation of animals for entertainment or research as a valid argument for their 'use'.
The RVC make millions of pounds treating private client's animals whilst dissecting cheaply obtained greyhounds which have become a waste product of a gambling industry.
I'm not arguing that it is a valid reason for using them. But dont you think compaiging for better treatment of the animals while they are alive is a better use of your time?
And as I'm a vet student myself, we also use 'cheaply' obtained animals (which have been euthanised at a shelter) for our dissections. I personally believe it is better than being burried in some backyard, at least they will be helping other animals. All I'm saying is do not 'blame' the RVC for it.
Greyhounds are exploited and used and abused just like pit-bulls are, Greys are the gentle giants of the dog world they are lovely and loving. stop the exploitation
Good on you androclestipster but please don't rely on laws to protect Greyhounds, these types don't abide by laws. We have to do it ourselves by making sure that everyone knows what is going on, and that they never support Greyhound racing.
What an obomination of a beautiful breed. To give their all and then have to die for it. To many sick and twisted people in this world. I've always wondered how the abusers look at themselves in the mirror. I pray for a better year with the abusers getting a swift and severe punishment and more laws that will protect all animals from thugs.
I am sure that when they look into a mirror they have no reflection. They are without souls. You can help by doing something positive. Volunteer your free time and help one of the many rescue groups throughout the UK.
Good for you! I'm an animal lover who always supported various UK charities. I adopted my first greyhound five years ago. I now have three and together we work tirelessly to raise public awareness to their sad plight. My comments below are directed to rosa not john for whom I have the greatest respect.
The 3 comments below are my response to a comment that someone who signed himself Blowawaytheantis placed here a while ago. Great name isn't it, Blowawaytheantis but perfect for someone who supports such an abhorrent pastime as Greyhound racing. His remark about the sport being regulated is an example of the dangers that we will have to be aware of if further "regulation" comes into being.
so are you saying every dog in greyhound racing is treated badly and dont turn around and say not the good ones this is why professionaltrainers employ kennelhands to look after every dog in his/her kennel and most of these people are payed below minimum wage so there must be a reason why they do this job and i dont think its to be cruel to them so dont blame the industry blame the owners the dogs are there responseability when the dog retires
Paid below minimum wage? That sounds about right for the greyhound racing industry. Why stop at exploiting greyhounds when you can exploit humans too?
If ordinary members of the public who at the moment won't attend Greyhound racing because of the inherent cruelty within it, hear that it is now somehow "regulated" so it must be OK, they might think that it is fine for them to support it. We must be vigilant at all times to make sure that people understand the truth about what is happening to these beautiful dogs. That is why regulation can only make things worse, not better.
Other pictures on the video are of Rusty, another beautiful dog found on the Welsh mountainsides in 2005. Shot in the head and his ears cut off to avoid detection of the owner, but Rusty was still alive and whimpering for help. What was that you asked mister blowaway, why do I want an end to Greyhound racing?
I would have thought everyone has heard about the Seaham executioner David Smith who killed thousands of Greys over about 10 years. The pictures are of him taken in 2006 when he was caught, not 20 years ago as mister blowaway suggests. What was that you asked mister blowaway, why do I want an end to Greyhound racing?
I have never attended dog racing - I would never attend dog racing ... even before I was aware of the abuse, for me it just is not right to use, abuse, exploit and kill in the name of sport or ' entertainment ' - Fantastic song - Fantastic video !
Well done to you all, it is high time the racing industry was made accountable for their actions and this cruelty has NO place in society in 2008. End the suffering, stop racing greyhounds to death...

Take the money out of it, no prices for the winners just a piece of glass/metal for on the dresser. NO BETTING!

I'm not quite sure what you're saying Tralgit - can you explain please?
ringwaxy 3 years ago
Here it started going the same way, now the winner of the race doesn't get any prize money for being first, it's just a matter of "honour ".

Although I'm already aware of this grim reality...it still hurts. Have posted this to my facebook...hopefully it will gain Greyhounds more supporters

Cleaned up it's act?
Ockendon vet KILLS healthy greyhounds and sells organs to the RVC.
Charles Pickering, largest greyhound breeder in the country sells puppies that wont perform to Liverpool Uni for reseach and dissection.
The industry is corrupt throughout , take a look at Greytexploitations website.
