Slams are only illegal if you blatantly slam someone on their head. You can still slam people and the refs are pretty lax about it (because they know how easy it is for either party to accidentally cause the slammed to land on his head), but if you intentionally spiked someone head-first into the ground, you're in shit.
Why did you choose a lot of non effective BJJ attacks? I mean, if the purpose of your video is to proove that BJJ is effective in MMA (and it is!!!!), you chose the wrong fight clips... = (
Hey i'm doing Jiu jitsu and Kickboxing ot and want to go in some years on MMA but i'm not doing BJJ but Normal Jiu Jitsu i knows BJJ is more ground fighting but will normal Jiu Jitsu be effective in MMA to?
Id definately recommed BJJ. I did kickboxing and normal JJ for a while to but the problem with normall JJ is they spend too much time practicing unrealistic techniques such as standing joint locks and such. You shud also look into some form of standing grappling such as wrestling or judo, if you really want to do mma
@attestedplum i dont know what style of jujutsu you studied but the unrealistic techniques are just part of the sylabuss and they do not encorouge you to use them but beleve me i do judo and jujutsu and they are very affective combonation
I think his point was that they spend too much time on them as opposed to places where the fight is more likely to end up or where it would be more effective to try those moves. And he said he did Japanese Jiu-Jitsu.
@SomeGuyYeah007 Nah there are differant schools that have differant teachings like at my school we do lots of stuff including ground fighting and we also do Okinawan Kobudo
@attestedplum What are you going to do in the case you are not in a 1 on 1 situation? If your on the ground, more likely than not your getting pummeled.
@appraiserjv I was talking about the skills you would need to compete in mma. As far as defense on 'the streets' goes that's a different game. In my humble opinion you are always better of avoiding grappling maintaining the distance for a hit and run approach in order to avoid multiple attackers stomping you. But sometimes you can't help but go to the ground, in that case you are better off knowing how to defend and attack of your back. Always be prepared for the worst
@attestedplum JJ works on the streets. BJJ if your lucky to get one on one. but in REALISTIC scenarios wouldnt a smart person want to finish the fight as quick as possible ? i dont know much about BJJ but i do know that combat JJ (without relying on the GI) works very well on the streets
Yea... "Attestedplum" is right. Old Jiu Jitsu won't be effective in MMA because MMA and BJJ has some moves that now outclass old Jiu Jitsu... Since you have some experience in a fighting system it'd be good for you to jump into MMA. MMA is about adapting so you'll have fun with that! lol
it's proved that traditional jiu jitsu has lose all his effectiveness..you really should do bjj, you will notice the difference right away. and with kick boxing in your knowlege you should be fine. of course it depends 50% on you not all on the styles you practice.

And I am pretty sure by that time kodokan judo was the excepted name for Kanos style, but yes B.J.J did come from Kodokan via Mitsuyo Maeda but the Gracies often credit ju jitsu when it is blatantly judo e.g (one of many) in an interview, one of the gracies describe Yoshida as a ju jitsu player.
im not saying all Gi's are expensive but it is expensive compared to other pieces of equipment such as gloves and shinpads i was thinking of a atma gold weave but im probably gonna go for a judo gi since our club (Renzo Gracie) supplies them
no gi ftw btw what do you guys do to improve your tech besides just play it out in your head alone cuz its cristmass and everyones off training for awhile reply please thanks
Haha, I was just kidding. I train both. Started off more focused on no gi but I really became enamored with the gi game after I got the basics down. But they are both great.
Just to add guys, In my own opinion, training with gi has actually brought up my no gi considerbly so I think the two go hand in hand especially with training for mma....

Blackbelt means you know your shit. I know Brownbelts who would go flying trough some blackbelts if they dont look out.
You dont seem to undestand that there are huge differences between judokas and bjj:kas.
The technical undestanding much more superior with bjj guys. Most "good" Judokas are at bluebelt level in bjj at their best.
in japan there might be better standard and lot of good groundfighters in judo. But the level wich most european and american judo schools are in ground is kind a sad.
and those belts dont mean jack shit if you cant handle yourself.
you really won't try to understand what I'm saying right? Of course someone who trains more and more intelligently in BJJ will be better than a judoka who trains like an idiot in a bad school. The opposite is true as well by the way.
You might have had bad experience with Judoka (probably people who trained for OLYMPIC JUDO which is NOT judo, it's a subcategory of Judo). But you can't generalize based on that. Judo school around you suck? Sorry to hear that, but it doesn't mean Judo sucks.
Oh and you should remember that while throws are not particularly effective in MMA, a succesful throw in the street will often end a fight. Being dropped on concrete is not the same as being dropped on a mat or in a ring. I'm not saying that groundwork is not important, it is extremely important and it is what I personally prefer to do (and I'm a judoka, not a BJJ guy). But throws are not as useless as they seem to be in MMA
not really, any clothing with do for 99% of the techniques. And I don't know about you, but unless I get attacked at the beach I'll never fight against a naked opponent. And if it's important for you to be able to fight bare naked, then it's easy to adapt most techniques.
... You obviously dont understand why people train with out gi..
When someone has t-shirt you cant grap sleaves or from the t-shirt because it will come off and you lost your gripp..
With out Gi trains you to understand the differences between overhook and underhook, overhook-underhook these are crusial if you are going to win a fight in the summer where people wear t-shirts or no shirt at all.. Maybe in winter when people have jackets GI stuff works.
You cant get past blue belt if you dont have somekind of understanding of underhook, overhook.
Different gripps from different positions are much better then grapping the gi. people who train without gi learn faster and develope better grapplers in lesser time. that goes the otherway around. No-gi guys can learn alot when grappling with gi.
I'm not saying training without a gi is useless by the way, it definitely has it's place depending on why you train. For example, people who train judo for MMA will train without gi, no point in doing it if you do sport judo. Most of your complaints seem to be against sport/olympic Judo. You need to understand that people who train olympic judo are not trying to learn self defense or how to win a street fight (although their knowledge will help a lot of the situation ever come).
I've done judo on people with t-shirts and while it doesn't work as well as someone who has a jacket or a gi, moves are definitely possible to do if you adapt even only a little bit. Karo Parysan has a couple of videos about adapting moves to do them without a gi. And by the way, over/underhooks are used in Judo too, just because you have a gi on doesn't mean you just keep grabbing the sleeve no matter what happens...
training with the gi developes better posture. period. it's important to train nogi occasionally, but you can't understate the importance of training true bjj with the gi
Throws aren't useless in MMA, they're just harder to come by. Wrestling takedowns tend to have a higher rate of sucess in MMA and in real fights because they're faster and more explosive in most cases. But I agree, even as a BJJ student, I can see a throw seriously fucking someone up on concrete if done properly.
? I'm just saying a black belt is the highest rank you can achieve in BJJ, not that a black belt will always win against a brown belt.
On the other hand, a black belt in Judo is not the highest ranking you can get. So it's stupid to compare a black belt in Judo and a black belt in BJJ. They don't represent the same thing.
Anyway BJJ is Judo without the stand up and rules that allow for leg locks in competition. Saying one sucks basically means the other suck as well since they are the same except for the competition rule set.
They aren't the same, and saying so is ignorant. BJJ comes from Kokodan judo, but has expanded FAR beyond judo in groundwork. Judo has superior throws because that's where most of the focus is; standing. BJJ is FAR surpassed judo in ground game because that's almost exclusively what BJJ focuses on.
The techniques are the same, can you name any technique that doesn't exist in Judo? But you are right that the execution of the techniques in BJJ has surpassed judo. But the techniques are still the same.
Does Judo have spider gaurd, X gaurd, gogoplatas, just to name a few off the top of my head. Yes, many of the techniques are found in judo, but there have also been a lot of techniques, submissions, sweeps, etc, that were developed by BJJ practitioners.
the gogoplata is simply a variation of kagato-jime. Spider guard and X guard are also used in judo. They might have been invented/popularised by bjj practitionners though. I'm definitely not saying that BJJ is useless or whatever. BJJ practitionners definitely have better groundwork on the whole.
The same can be said when Bj Pen held on a little longer when he fought Jen Pulver in the ultimate fighter 5 finale. Like when you grapple and don't have your head looking at who's touching you (Like Rani, as the ref tapped his back to stop), you think your opponent is skwirming..trying to fight back to get off. Iuno it's like second nature to think that, i's weird. If you grapple maybe you'd understand.
And there's another possible reason. As you grapple and got him in a submission position your mind is soley focused on the submission. And sometimes you focus too hard on the submission and can't pay attention to who's tapping you to stop, or telling you to stop...since your strongly strongly focused on the submission so sometimes it takes maybe 1-2 seconds to get your focus off..and let go. Again it may appear weird, but if you grapple you'd understand.
At least he's not like Ryan Gracie when he kept the armbar on an opponent longer, laughing and sticking out his tongue out like he's bad ass for like an extra 3-5 seconds.
if your talking about his fight in pride, the dude talked shit about the gracie family before the fight and how he was saying japanese submission wrestling is best.

No..
Jiu Jitsu is an alternative spelling for Ju jutu JiuJitsu Jew jew tsew (kidding about the last one)
But Brazilian Jiu Jitsu actually came from Judo.
They came with Judo from japan to brazil and at the time it was still called Kano Jiu Jitsu..
Then they developped a ground fighting system only which is more of a sport martial art (like Judo) than a self defense martial art (like Jiu Jitsu)

Yeah but judo is extremely hard to use without the gi meanwhile many jiujitsu schools teach jiujitsu without the gi.
yellowmon123 3 years ago
not really, any clothing with do for 99% of the techniques. And I don't know about you, but unless I get attacked at the beach I'll never fight against a naked opponent. And if it's important for you to be able to fight bare naked, then it's easy to adapt most techniques.
KingColliwog 3 years ago
Maybe in winter when people have jackets GI stuff works.
tkstka 3 years ago
You cant get past blue belt if you dont have somekind of understanding of underhook, overhook.
Different gripps from different positions are much better then grapping the gi. people who train without gi learn faster and develope better grapplers in lesser time. that goes the otherway around. No-gi guys can learn alot when grappling with gi.
tkstka 3 years ago
I'm not saying training without a gi is useless by the way, it definitely has it's place depending on why you train. For example, people who train judo for MMA will train without gi, no point in doing it if you do sport judo. Most of your complaints seem to be against sport/olympic Judo. You need to understand that people who train olympic judo are not trying to learn self defense or how to win a street fight (although their knowledge will help a lot of the situation ever come).
KingColliwog 3 years ago 2
I've done judo on people with t-shirts and while it doesn't work as well as someone who has a jacket or a gi, moves are definitely possible to do if you adapt even only a little bit. Karo Parysan has a couple of videos about adapting moves to do them without a gi. And by the way, over/underhooks are used in Judo too, just because you have a gi on doesn't mean you just keep grabbing the sleeve no matter what happens...
KingColliwog 3 years ago
training with the gi developes better posture. period. it's important to train nogi occasionally, but you can't understate the importance of training true bjj with the gi
IAMME000 3 years ago 2
Agree 100 % gi > no gi in terms of bring up yo MMAgame to standard..

Mortido 3 years ago
By useless what I meant is that they don't damage the opponent or do so only slightly compared to a real fight condition.
KingColliwog 3 years ago
KingColliwog 3 years ago
Anyway BJJ is Judo without the stand up and rules that allow for leg locks in competition. Saying one sucks basically means the other suck as well since they are the same except for the competition rule set.
KingColliwog 3 years ago
They aren't the same, and saying so is ignorant. BJJ comes from Kokodan judo, but has expanded FAR beyond judo in groundwork. Judo has superior throws because that's where most of the focus is; standing. BJJ is FAR surpassed judo in ground game because that's almost exclusively what BJJ focuses on.
Mortido 3 years ago
The techniques are the same, can you name any technique that doesn't exist in Judo? But you are right that the execution of the techniques in BJJ has surpassed judo. But the techniques are still the same.
KingColliwog 3 years ago
Does Judo have spider gaurd, X gaurd, gogoplatas, just to name a few off the top of my head. Yes, many of the techniques are found in judo, but there have also been a lot of techniques, submissions, sweeps, etc, that were developed by BJJ practitioners.
Mortido 3 years ago
the gogoplata is simply a variation of kagato-jime. Spider guard and X guard are also used in judo. They might have been invented/popularised by bjj practitionners though. I'm definitely not saying that BJJ is useless or whatever. BJJ practitionners definitely have better groundwork on the whole.

no. why?
bulaluhanoel 4 years ago
why is rany such a douche and holds on to chokes even after the ref makes it obvious the fight is over?
nirvana2465 4 years ago
The same can be said when Bj Pen held on a little longer when he fought Jen Pulver in the ultimate fighter 5 finale. Like when you grapple and don't have your head looking at who's touching you (Like Rani, as the ref tapped his back to stop), you think your opponent is skwirming..trying to fight back to get off. Iuno it's like second nature to think that, i's weird. If you grapple maybe you'd understand.
lyricallyundefined 4 years ago
And there's another possible reason. As you grapple and got him in a submission position your mind is soley focused on the submission. And sometimes you focus too hard on the submission and can't pay attention to who's tapping you to stop, or telling you to stop...since your strongly strongly focused on the submission so sometimes it takes maybe 1-2 seconds to get your focus off..and let go. Again it may appear weird, but if you grapple you'd understand.
lyricallyundefined 4 years ago
At least he's not like Ryan Gracie when he kept the armbar on an opponent longer, laughing and sticking out his tongue out like he's bad ass for like an extra 3-5 seconds.
lyricallyundefined 4 years ago
if your talking about his fight in pride, the dude talked shit about the gracie family before the fight and how he was saying japanese submission wrestling is best.
Narukaflame 4 years ago
Damn I didn't know that. I would have broken that guy's arm then. But sticking out your tongue out, come on.
