Look at how slow and stable this is! It should be /very/ safe because you don't go that fast. Ground effect keeps it in the air at lower speed and keeps it from tipping or climbing higher than a few feet in the air. I would LOVE to build one of these someday. Perfect for rivers or lakes.
Like the effort, nice craft. Have you thought about coating the submerged parts in a material that is used for competition swimsuits that simulates shark skin, seal skin etc, that creates at even low speeds the equivalent of the 'boundary layer effect'? thus lowering water 'friction' resistance? Some modern racing yachts use a paint for the hull that does this, it would reduce aqua-drag at take off. so less power needed.
This is the best looking WISES aircraft I have ever seen. The flight characteristics look very good especially the short take off run. Bravo! Very good use of the canard configuration.
It looks good but it looks and is pitch sensitive - have a look in my channel a very stable tandem wing Canard 1 of 3, which you can use very well for this application
Its long shape, main lift element placed far at the back and ability to get airborne and stay stable while airborne really make me think of the ships from WipEout for some reason.
I'd like that. What do you think? Put more red on it and call it an AG Systems design?
Looks like it gets into wing effect at a much slower speed than other WIG/Ekranoplans, and still maintains good control. One of the best craft of its kind that I've seen, nicely done.
It looks like you've really nailed the slowler speed performance, congratulations.
The thing that always came to mind with me is the performance differential between water and airbourne performance, but this design looks to bring this gap closer together thereby giving more load and engine flexibility.
its a ground effect vehicle, design one that is stable and you wont have to work anymore.Doesn't anybody read anymore, the comments are something of around a 32 IQ.God help us,will all be living in caves again if these idiot poster's are the next generation of designers.
Yes thats true but if the surface tension is somehow reduced then less power is needed for lift off. Less power requires less weight etc. Anyways it's just a thought.. Cheers all. Grant.
I thought to remember that a certain professor Boersmans in the University of Delft (Netherlands) is working on a similar project. A glider with a inbelievable glide-ratio. It has a system of tiny holes in the wings. Sorry, do not know more.
...and that's the basic difference. hovering is ability to be motionless vs. ground in the absence of wind. for example a STOL airplane approaching to landing at 5km/h in presence of 40km/h opposite wind is not classified as hovering.
well they are much better. they use way less fuel, can carry heavier payloads than a airplane os seaplane and are actually not a plane. they are classed as a boat. so no plane licence is needed
interesting question. but look at ekranoplane vids. russians have built them on large scale. boing have toyed with the idea on a truely huge scale. google up the name pelican i think. its a good idea this. but problems are surface shipping in the way now. accidents would happen
not true, they need much (2x? 3x) times more thrust than similar airplane for takeoff. for cruise speed they need less thrust but this means that heavy takeoff engines are carried onboard for no purpose in flight.
How to reduce the required thrust at takeoff is the main focus of the project. We are proposing the canard type configuration with forward mounted thrusters as a solution.
...what is not much different than russians did in since sixties what will end with similar results. unles you reduce viscosity and surface tension of water.
additionally while forward munted trusters are used since a long time, they are exactly the surplus weight you are carrying.
second main problem with Ekranoplanes was the instability at high speed due to aero-water oscillations of pressure that ocassionally caused toppling overt the tail (raising bow 180 degrees).
canard type will only invite more problems like this unless you stay at 'typical tourist yaht' speeds.

飛行高度をとれない(それに見合う大きなエンジンも積まない)ので「船」です。
法律的にも「船」! 飛行機と解釈されると、航空法の要求で高価な乗り物になってしまう。水面近くでないと自重を支えられない仕様なんです。

The design has in sigh lift over SPEED...
The more energy you bring...the less speed you´ll get.
It actually is a balanced and conservative concept ...the problems happen when you search for better performance in high speed stability...
Answer: you´ll ned a whole new concetp.
