I breastfeed in public because the alternative would be keeping my ass inside for the first 6 months of my daughter's life and it is not the middle ages, I have places to go and people to see and I enjoy the stimulation of the outside world as much as my daughter learns from that stimulation. Well it's too bad that women had to ruin the opportunity to do what has been deemed right for them since creation by sensationalizing it in front of the world on the same pages that also prescribe many other things that ought not no be shown. Also the attitude of anyone going onto the internet to prove this point shows that they don't need to do this for anything other than personal reasons and just plain being obnoxious to the world who is the AUDIENCE??

But the surgeon general does NOT state that a mother must go online in front of millions of people and make a spectacle of herself. That does not help the baby and it only serves to give attention to a woman who has a need for it from anywhere she can get it. There are lots of alterior motives today that give women a chance to make and issue out of nothing in order to show off themselves to the world and herald in a great rights issue for themselves. the SG states many other wrong things also.

@dotonthewall actually, breastfeeding is "something important that will help the world". For example, a recent study found that if 90 percent of U.S. families followed guidelines to breastfeed exclusively for six months, the United States would save $13 billion annually from reduced direct medical and indirect costs and the cost of premature death. The US surgeon general has stated "for too long, breastfeeding has received insufficient national attention as a public health issue".

If breastfeeding was sexual, it wouldn't be allowed in public. So why are there different standards on the web? We can nurse in a courtroom, a park, a public school, a restaurant, walking down the street....but GOD FORBID we snap a photo and share it on our FB feed, because apparently capturing the moment and posting it immediately makes it sexual.
