  • R.I.P Shawn Lane <3

  • I'm convinced that Lane was an alien life force.

He defined what a true virtuoso is on the electric guitar.

  • God! In 3:24 can anyone ever create this kind of beautiful and complexly structured notes composition ever again in electric guitar?

  • pelle d'oca ogni volta che l'ascolto

  • @XenoType008 Really? This isn't good? So you're saying if it isn't technically complicated music for musicians then it's not good? I would have to disagree...

  • Great video but WTF is up with putting in that iconic shot of the prisoner being shot during the Vietnam war? And the Buneul shots?! You either have extremely weird taste or a good sense of humor. Can't tell.

  • @MurdFlum It fits well with the title, if you think about it.

  • What a special person Shawn was, my favorite musician of all time.

  • he's far too underrated, one word, genius.

  • I listen to this in good times and bad times...

  • 3:22 Is that Shawn using a sweep?!

  • Jason Becker is sick,Randy Rhoads is Dead so is Criss Oliva. Chuck Schuldiner died of the cancer he couldnt cure because he was poor. And Mr Shawn Lane is in the another world after the death. Why good musicians cant stay on Earth?

  • @Chuck6360

Dude, randy and chuck used to be my idols along with vai until becker, criss and lane took my top 3 spots, i forever love you! So many nights ive wondered why them.

  • if i had as much talent as shawn did in his left index finger id be set for life

  • Thumbs up for the song, thumbs down for the pervert who uploaded the pictures.

  • WTF is with the creepy ass pictures in the midle of the song?

    oh well.

    Thanks for loading this! :P

  • Shawn was a father??? Where is the son of god?

  • @Aurelius27x

Probably on a mountain top in Nepal or something...

  • @Aurelius27x

The daughter of god, he had a girl, she named gray pianos flying

  • @Aurelius27x His daughter named the song "gray pianos flying"

  • yeah i just heard this song for the first time.. im doing alot of shawn lane research. this is absolutely amazing...

  • @guthriegovansgood

Shawn Lane never produced a note that wasn't worth listening to. Good luck researching!

  • wtf with the pictures? >_> 2:24

  • HAHAH What the FUCK?!?! 2:07-2:24

Yeah it was out of place but I liked that. Its funny to gage everyone reactions. I wish there was a camera so you could see everyones faces when those images poped up. But it does say the hurt ,the joy.

  • at 2:24 wtf? nice music though.. kinda beatles-ish, until the last minute

  • 2:15-2:25 are stills from the movie "Eraserhead" (I know it's fucked up; it's David Lynch movie). It's pretty good you should check it out.

    Here: watch?v=wgbX_9UNkCc

  • eraserhead was fucked up, but i have seen much more fucked up movies.

    i like mulholland drive better

  • David Lynch is a fantsastic director.

  • Just heard this for the first time! WOW!!

  • oggi l'anniversario della sua scomparsa....

scomparsa di un grande uomo, un grande musicista , un abile chitarrista, una persona dotata di un grande cuore....

    Addio Shawn!

  • All right!

  • I absolutely love this man's ability to be able to make the most complex melodies I've ever heard and also make simple, yet unbelievably beautiful and inspirational songs like this. WIthin Shawn Lane's musical mind was a perfect balance of everything. He was the greatest musical mind I have ever witnessed.

  • @scarter180 Well then you haven't heard the best classical compositions. Though even compared to those shawn lane has his own place imo. Only guitarist who really deserves all the appreciation het gets and even more!

  • this brings tears to my eyes .. why did you leave us shawn? :'(

  • Shawn invented the Transensor? They should write a book or have a documentary on this amazing man (or both).

  • I'm surprised they haven't already.

  • Tear. RIP

  • this is a beautiful song. shawn is the best. he makes the best use of the dreaded "four chords"

  • spockc: for sure. I hadn't listened to this song in awhile. Actually I had never really listened to it in depth. Just doing so now. Man it rips. You can sing along to the melodies!!

  • which four chords?

  • The part from 2:07 to 2:25 was just weird...what were those pictures of?!

  • The first set of images was from a movie called 'Un Chien Andalou', the second set was from another movie called 'Eraserhead'.

  • (;_;)...once again, this is beautiful video.

  • Thanks for the contribution, a beautifully melodic Shawn song.

  • i have no clue where this is from =(

aside from powers of ten, what else is essential shawn lane??

  • It depends on what style of his playing you like, but a lot of people consider Temporal Analogues of Paradise to be essential. You might like Abstract Logic and the CD he did with Hellborg and Shrieve "Two Doors".

  • thanks SOOOO much man

doesn't matter the style really, if lane's involved, i need it

  • No problem! Those are very much in the "crazy gorgeous electric guitar wailing" style like his first two albums.

His other stuff with lots of Indian dudes is very beautiful: "Icon" and "Good People in Times of Evil". I bought basically everything he ever did that you can easily buy... :D Well worth it.

  • every guitar player should have your attitude, the more lane, the better =D

  • 3:48 image was so perfect. Great stuff.

  • Btw, i love the selection of photos you chose for the slide show.

  • Beautiful tune!

Of all the Lane gigs i've seen and heard over the years (probably a hundred or more), this is the one tune i've never heard him play live, for some reason.

  • Yeah, I spent a while looking for a live video, but coudln't find one. That's why I put this up here.

I think more people need to hear this song.

  • Hehe, I really like this vid.

By the way, you like HR Giger? Mee too! =D

  • Giger is one of my favourites.

H.R. Giger, Turner, Salvadore Dali, Titian, Ruebens, Pino Dangelico, J. Sargent...

All brilliant. Maybe I should have included them, eh?

  • Ever heard of Dali and Disney collaboration anime called Destino? I've been searching for the dvd...

  • That sounds pretty awesome alright.

Back in the day, before disney went all family comedy on us and they made half decent movies.

  • 3:36.......... (my heart aches)

Yeah IRideThePaleHorse, you really did make this video nicely. Great images at right timing. Thank you for that.

  • Shawn plays part of this song in the video of him at AIM with Jonas and Jeff. It's at the part when he's showing off the loop/effects rig he had at the time (he loops the chords and plays the melody over them). You probably already know that though Willjay, lol. Great video, by the way!

  • That was actually "The Way it Has to Be" that Shawn played while demoing his rack at AIM in Nov 1995, not "The Hurt, The Joy". :-)

  • Yeah, you're right! Sorry about that.

  • No worries. ;-)
