to change your cpu maker you need to change your mobo, and possibly your gpu - that is if your new mobo requires sli and you want crossfire or vise versa and thats only if you're going to use more than 1 gpu
im sorry, but some of your choices are a bit iffee, msi k9a2 is THE BEST 790fx mobo, and msi 4850 quad heatpipe pwns all others, even toxic.i would get ddr2 800mhz ram(dominator anyone?) and oc it like crazy. and q6600 is way better then q9450, com eon man 45nm isnt all that.
Indeed, q9450 hardly seems worth it. I'd go as far as saying instead of a Q6600 I'd go for the E8400 or amd 64 X2 6000+ instead tbh. Don't even know a single game that uses quad core yet. Maybe crysis but a core 2 duo or X2 will smash that game anyway so no point there... But yeah if you plan on doing more then gaming or have a 30" monitor I guess it's fine to use quad. Personally I see no point in going above 2 cores at the moment though.
very true, or if your real crazy E8600. intels 45nm cpus aren't much better then their 65nm(quad cores at least) because there old school lithography makes it very hard to make 45nm transistors, that is why shanghai has a much bigger jump in performance over Barcelona, liquid immersion lithography is the future!
if you're going for SLI over crossfire, i'd recommend the evga 750i FTW mobo and save more money with some good quality ddr2 ram. but if you're that bent over getting ddr3 and or crossfire. the mobo rodney recommended is pretty good.
What motherboard do you recommend for the Intel system? Intel Mid-Range Computer System: - Antec 900 Case - Corsair TX650 PSU - Mushkin XP3-12800 4GB Memory Kit - Western Digital Caviar BLACK SATA 1TB - LG 18x DVD Burner w/Lightscribe - Vista Home Premium Edition 64bit - Intel Q9450 2.66GHz CPU - HIS 4850 512MB I thought maybe the P5Q Deluxe (DDR2 compatible) but not sure if that works with the 4850 graphics card? Or should I just spend a little extra on some DDR3 memory?
i think he's mixed the 2 coz he said "with a budget between 1000-2000$" if you put both intel and nvidia vid card you'll be over the the budget limit... and if you'll put both amd and ati both in you wont be able to maximize the performance... so i think what he did was maximize the performance within the budget...
i asked the same thing, but for this choice of motherboards/chip mix the boards support either crossfire or sli, you honestly dont want to buy a nvidia card if your motherboard is crossfire compatible, you can use a single nvidia card yes but you would never be able to use sli, of course if your not gaming or anything then this isnt a problem but usually if your buying performance parts such as these you want to future proof yourself and doing that you stick with what your motherboard supports.
because your are an idiot!! Most intel Motherboard are crossfire if you didnt know that. Plus he was talking about P5Q MB from Asus so it only crossfire available not sli.
I have GeIL PC2-8500 EVO ONE 4GB Memory Kit 2gb x 2 they're
I recommend putting some kinda fan on them I got 60mm bolted to them(bolts screw & bolts are from 120 thunder blade case fans). since they aren't under my power supply to get cooled on this AM2+ Motherboard.
Oh I almost forgot why do you actually recommend Quad CPU's for a gaming system? I would recommend the AMD Athlon X2 6400+ 3,2 GHz and Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3,0 GHz for gaming systems. :)
for now i think it would be best to have dual cores, but thinking ahead a lot of games will start to take advantage of quads.. i like to think ahead also =D
I see you keep recommending asus motherboards, everyone I've known you has got an Asus motherboard as had to send it back for being faulty. Do you find them reliable ?
9800gtx in a midrange? I better go cry in a corner now. I don't think my keyboard is waterproof.. I thought the best piece of my computer is kickass. Well, nice video though, Rod!
Hey, Rodney.. i am planning to upgrade from my dell dimension e510, and i have 500 dollars. i can use most of the parts from my current pc(such as HD, DVD-RW's, RAM, power, etc) the only 3 things i need are Case(thinking of 'Temptest'), Videocard(Either 2x 4850 in crossfire, or 1 4870) and motherbaord.. i havn't decide which mobo to get since i am not sure about a videocard yet. if i get 2x 4850 thenn ill leed xfire mobo. if single 4870 then ill need single PCIE x16 mobo. my allowance=500$.thanx
Hi Rodney I was wondering I have a 400-watt psu that has 16a on the +12v rail and I want to get a replacement to my pci-e 6600gt and get a used 7800gtx, my question is: Will the power supply be able to power the card (Asus 7800gtx TOP 256mb), thanks.
Hi have a 2 WD caviers both 160gb both have same serial number except the end digits YS and JS, one is balck in colour and the other silver, is the black on the Black caiver?
Very true, your on the ball :) I forgot to mention that in the video. Darn unscripted, unedited videos! LOL! I'd recommend the Mushkin XP3-12800 4GB Memory Kit, but they are a little pricey :(
Well if you choose the Asus M3A32-MVP in the AMD computer, wouldn't it be better to also choose the HIS 4850 512MB because the motherboard has X4 Crossfire support? You can always add more ATI cards(even different models) in the future. And the HD4850 has a performance that rivals with the 9800GTX, and it's cheaper.
I've seen benchmarks where the ATI 4850 in crossfire beats the GTX280 in many games, and they can be bought by almost half the price of the Nvidia card.
Great video, and I also enjoy your other videos. BUT I would have to disagree about the intel processor. I would prefer the Q6600 since it's relatively cheap and has great overclocking potential.
of course it isn't the only thing to look for but if it isn't very important why do so many people overclock? again i know there are many important things but clockspeed is still important
Yes, many gamers use SFF cases for LAN parties and they are really fast. It really depends on the Video Card used for the most part. You just need to find a SFF case that will fit all your gear. This would make an excellent video "SFF Gaming Computer". hmmm
not to be picky or anything 3dgame man your reviews are the best! but when you mention AMD systems you say to use a "NVIDIA" video card instead of a ati model, and when you mention Intel systems you say to use a "ATI" video card? Are you recommending those just because of the particular motherboards you picked out for the systems or do you not belive in keeping ATI with AMD and INTEL with NVIDIA? obviously i know it has to do with the motherboard if it allows cross fire or sli just wanted to ask
Yea, it's because of SLI (NVIDIA) and Crossfire (ATI) compatibility. You can use a single video card in just about any motherboard. It's just that when using multiple video cards you need a motherboard specially built to handle it.
I think you made this video from the specs I sent you. But I forgot to mention the PC Components I listed were all in seperate bundles and it added up to $640, and with all the coolers $704.
Its a MID range PC, has 4GB of ram will easily handle VISTA, VISTA is far better with the 4GB than u think, at idle for XP the Physucal memory for is around 300 to 400, Vista is 400 to 800, underload is gets to around 2gb (depending on what your running) so tbh as long as the 4GB memory is in there, as long as you aint stupid Vista will work fine, now i aint a vista fan boy i dont like it, but its good for gaming on mid to high end PC's
dude people use vista for gaming now. And prolyl in the near future if you are still using XP every1 using Vista. people will be playing better games in Dx10 and in near future games will be only on vista

I've got an ATI X1950 Pro which requires upto 30A on a 12v rail.
My current PSU is 2 rails at 18A each, which isn't powerful enough, so I've been looking at some new power supplies.
I decided that the Corsair TX range are the best, but was not sure about whether to get the 650W or 750W power supply.
The 650W is more than powerful enough, but I was wondering whether it would be wiser to buy the 750W model to allow for future upgrades.
Thank you, Jack.
