The billions of Youtube whiners and commentators against everything released since your junior proms should all get together as one goodvib'd family and record your own( and ours) old skool "We are the World and You Should Be Too" anthem to shame everyone under 40 yrs and to teach the young( the children--no, the grandchildren)how it was back then and should be forevermore.
If you're a real hip hop head and enjoy real music check out our stuff. Search for CRIMINAL - SHOTS TO YA HEAD to listen to one of the songs off the new EP! Songs also available on itunes. Thanks for supporting hungry music!
@ftechone I partially agree with you - however, the dumbassification of "hip hop" is not exclusively SOLDya Boy's fault. There's alot of older cats around him that should have known better, and while a bunch of IG'NANT negroes have misrepresented the genre, we can saw they pulled the trigger, but the bigger question is WHO SUPPLIED THE AMMUNITION???? IOW, in the words of Chuck, WHO'S THE REAL CRIMINAL??? Peace.
P.E. was never my favorite musically but the message was always on point... and yeah listening to it make your blood boil. Hip hop for people with brains.
@sex6cult9revolution my man you aint wrong, such a riddim-and i still got that cassette-its shows how a good a beat must be if you also wanna hear it without him on it
@pivohunter 1-i'm from Czech republic in czech leanguage pivo = beer your nick is cool 2-identical memories, megadrive,PE was my first hip hop experience.
I remember playing Sonic the hedgehog on my Sega megadrive with this pumping outta my stereo, not bad goin for a 12 year old white english kid lol. I'm 31 now.
No big booty bitches, bling, or talk about gun play?
Can you feel that blood pumping in your veins because you just remembered or was made aware that you're being fucked by this racist ass system with its bullshit double standards?
Welcome to what hip hop started out as, not lil Wayne and soulja boy. This shit makes my blood boil. This why you hear some say that they can't listen to this modern shit- it is devoid of all substance because real hip hop makes you angry
While this is my favorit era of hip hop, it's not what hip hop started as. Hip hop is and always was party music. PE, Boogie Down Productions and some others use the medium for more but there was nothing revolutionary about Sugar Hill Gang or the Funky Four plus One More.
While it is true that hip hop may not have started this way,I am glad that it was used as a way to voice the anger and discontent of black urban life.
I don't see how you can say it will be always party music when PE, Rakim, & Kool G has shown what can be done with it. A good beat is ok, but for me and others like me- if it aint saying shit then its not worth listening to.
Nearly all contemporary music was started by blacks and reflect our pain, anger, and struggle.
Brother, I live in the world as it is, not how I would have it. Even 1988 when PE dropped "It Takes a Nation...", the top albums were from Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince, MC Lyte, and EPMD. The three groups you mentioned did make all political songs. G and Rakim made a lot of street oriented songs and a few social ones. So when I say it will always be party music, there's been no evidence to show that it won't be.
Our music has never only been about our struggle and pain but also about overcoming it or just putting it aside. At a time when Black folks had it way worse than we can imagine, the last thing they wanted to talk about the whole night at a night spot was how hard it was. Jazz was party music. Blues, with it's melancholy themes, was party music. Rock n roll was obviously party music. Hip-hop is the same. There should be room for PE and Gucci Mane.
While it is true that club music is way more popular, there are those of us who see hip hop as an art form. It is inspiring to see brothers not settle for the mediocre, popular genre but take hip hop to a different level where wordplay, intelligence, and social awareness is.
I'm not saying one is better than the other- that depends on the one listening, but selling records and top albums, TO ME, is not the measure of an artists value-did he blaze a new path is.
Agreed. For me, I can be quite liberal and give an artist his due, even if he makes music I don't like. I think Soulja Boy Tell'Em is a pioneer of a certain sound. But I hate his music. I think it's an artform to most rappers but once they're in the business, they have to eat and pay bills. The Clipse are the nicest rappers out but they tuned it back a lot on their latest release to sell records and get on radio.
Now don't expect revolutionaries. They are what people call "crack rappers" or "coke rappers". But they're able to do it without glamorizing and bringing up the negative aspects of drug dealing. They're my favorite current group.
what a strong message that was very necessary. i'm very supportive of chuck d and their message and i am white kid from middle america. i think chuck d gets a bad deal for hating white people. he's not a racist, he hates corruption and false procedures. just so happens these people who are the real criminals who take our money and are our law makers are mostly white. i hate them too.
To bad Eye witness sucks ass! If I was Public Enemy I would sue them for drag'n the PE name in the mud! I spin hardcore and that shit is a fucking joke! Nothing like listening to the same loop a million times in a row pepsibarker!
Every album they put out still has that same magical musical timing and razor sharp intelligence. Pick up all their recent shit if you haven't. Most recently I believe: "How You Sell Soul to a Soulless People That Sold They Soul?"
Chuck D's vocals are like a drop kick to the eardrum...but I mean that in a good way. :) He's powerful. This is when hip hop meant something. It's been ruined by lamers like 50 cent...
@topsidesoul True. PE is STILL bringin' it - I saw them LIVE with X-Clan and Bootsy Collins at the Madison in Covington, KY. Search for RECENT (yes, I said RECENT) releases such as HOW YOU SELL SOUL TO A SOULLESS PEOPLE WHO SOLD THEIR SOUL????? as well as BEATS, RHYMES, AND PLACES, and the deep-ass AIR CONDITIONING. After you hear that joint, you'll understand the deepness of using air conditioning as a metaphor for the sorry-ass state of most music today. PEACE!!!!!
my #1 favorite PE song which holds alot of truth-H2O, I have a cache of favorite PE jams, rightous post dougpark17!!!

I miss the cassette version of "Greatest Misses" because it contained a 2-minute instrumental version of this track. It ruled.
I dig Chuck's rap on this, but the backing track is SOOO GOOD. You can totally listen to just that.
