  • 1987 stands out here for two noteworthy reasons.

First, this was a year after CBS ended up selling the former KMOX-TV to Viacom (which started as a distribution component of CBS) who then renamed it KMOV.

The station was now free to pre-empt as much network fare as they wanted, something that rarely happened when they were a CBS O&O.

Second, 1987 was the final season for Cardinals football in the city. KMOV carried all their road games; maybe the Giants game sold out at least.

  • I remember this further back when "Chity Chitty Bang Bang" was a hot item!!!

  • Man, I like this because it brings me back to my childhood. Think about the Rappers making a song out of this little ditty!

  • Not Larry Conners?!

  • Larry Conners when he had hair. That when was really young.

  • the design influence of lou dorfsman is what makes this "special".

  • the deadly disaster?.....

charlie Brown isn't coming after this ends.

  • @monos70 I was thinking the same thing that was a intro for charlie brown back in the day

  • As a kid there were few moments better than seeing this little intro because I knew that a Charlie Brown holiday cartoon (or Rudolph or Frosty) was fortrhcoming.

  • Exactly. I was like one of Pavlov's dogs. Once this came up, and a special presentation on some news issue followed -- that was a huge let down.

  • "A deadly disaster in the Pacific. Details at 10."

  • This graphic was aired until the end of 1990.

  • Wow. CBS aired this as late as 1987?

  • makes me feel like im in pajamas

  • OLd Skool!

  • how about jim bolen?

  • Larry Conners is now the longest-running 10 p.m. news anchor in the St. Louis market.

  • Thanks Larry Conners!!

  • Man...Larry Conners was working for them even back then...how old is that guy? :)

  • Big crash in the Pacific....and now for "It's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown!!!""""""

  • lol! I always loved that Special logo because it meant a Charlie Brown show was coming on.

  • Exactly...and when it was anything BUT Charlie Brown i would NOT be a happy camper.

CBS Special Presentation...featuring Charlie Brown...with McDonald's, Coca Cola, and Dolly Madison commercials.

  • The disaster he's referring to is likely:

    * December 7 - PSA Flight 1771 crashes near Paso Robles, California

    * December 8 - A Peruvian Navy Fokker F27 crashes near Ventanilla, Peru

    or

    * December 21 - The ferry Doña Paz collides with the oil tanker Vector I

  • I think they came up with this logo for the hippies. "Dude, did you see the trails man?"

  • From then and to this day Larry Conners is still with KMOV.

  • Larry Conners is still with KMOV channel 4. Him and Robin Smith are still there.

  • Hey Texas, don't forget the bumpers before going to commercial:

"It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, brought to you by Dolly Madison, maker of 'neat-to-eat' treats and by... McDonald's. Have you had your break today?"

I hear those in my head like it was yesterday.

    LOL

  • "....brought to you by: McDonald's--We Do It All For You. And by Peter Paul Candies."

    Now, THAT'S old school!!!

  • @ChevySuper8 : Don't forget Dolly Madison cakes also sponsored Charlie Brown!!

  • @ChevySuper8 you forgot dolley madison snack cakes.

  • Best. Promo. Ever.

  • The disaster: Charlie Brown isn't really coming on...

  • @jokerhawk21681 friggin abc got all the charlie brown stuff at least cbs saved rudolph and frosty

  • KAL Flight 007 shoot down by Soviet MiGs? Thats would be my first guess...

  • That was in 1983 not 1987. By the Time 1987 was here relations between the Soviets and Americans were better then in 1983.

  • Anyone know what deadly disaster in the Pacific he's referring to?

  • Er. Um. Uh.

Boy, had you better be kidding.

  • Details at 10:00

  • God, I remember that those seconds of music from watching SO many Christmas cartoons!

  • When I seen that come on TV, that meant it was time for Charlie Brown!! (or another cartoon). Cartoons didn't come on late too much back then. Now cartoons come on 24 hours a day, all of the time. (Cartoon Network).

  • Larry Conners!

  • Haha damn Larry Conners still had hair back then. XD

  • He kind of has hair again HA HA HA!!!!

  • What show? Charlie Brown special?
