If I cannot go in to the bank, airport and many other places wearing crash helmet, mask or balaclava ( also known as a ski mask) for security reasons (because face should be visible to identify person), why should it be an exemption for burkha or anything else, religious it would be or not? I was against this ban. I thought, in a liberal democracy, a Muslimah should be allowed to wear what she wants! Why should we de-clothe her? However, I have come to accept the ban in certain places. What if a man used a niqab to lurk in female washrooms? We need to easily identify people, for the safety of the public. Especially in banks or during business transactions. Western women often adorn the hijab when in Muslim countries. Muslims "must" adapt when they're living in a non-Muslim society.

Actually in the 4 Muslim countries that I have lived in (morocco, lebanon, jordan, and syria). there is a healthy christian population. nobody forces them out and they are even allowed to sell pork and drink alcohol. That's part of Islam: religious tolerance.

first of all, I will assume you do not know Arabic and have never read the Arabic version of the Qur'an (which is the only actual Quran, any translation is merely an attempt to best explain the Arabic, which can never be 100% translated accurately). Because if you had read it, it tells the woman to cover everything form head to toe. and in the explanation of this verse according to the companions of the Prophet (pbuh) said that this means everything except one or both eyes.
WE have evidence from the prophetic traditions (which are also considered sacred text from which Islamic law is derived) that prove that niqab was used by the wives of the prophet and many women companions. There is a difference of opinion as to whether or not it is obligatory, sure. I personally think it's highly highly recommended. But that's a separate issue. If you would like proof, I would be more than happy to share sources with you.

@trigga1uk In most cases, TRADITIONS prohibits muslim women from pursuing public life, like working in an office, mingling with the opposite sexes or even driving. Thats NOT even what Islam teaches, but then again, every aspects of our actions are accounted for. There are limitations on every things in life. So for the case tht u pointed out, different traditions play a big role.
1)- there is not as much of a need (in the eyes of Muslim women) to wear it in those countries as there is in western countries. Muslim men have more modesty and will lower their gazes in front of women. But you will still see that the majority of women cover their hair.
2) A lot of women turn to religion when they see that the culture that surrounds them is so vastly different from their values
Another reason is that Muslim women (believe it or not) become more education about their religion in the west than they do in Muslim countries. So as they learn more, and gain more piety and faith, they choose to dress as the women did in that time.
Muslim women are still women. and it is a womans choice how she wants to present herself. if a woman feels more at peace with herself wearing a hijab, niqab, or even a burqa then that is HER choice. I was against this ban. I thought, in a liberal democracy, a Muslimah should be allowed to wear what she wants! Why should we de-clothe her? However, I have come to accept the ban in certain places. What if a man used a niqab to lurk in female washrooms? We need to easily identify people, for the safety of the public. Especially in banks or during business transactions. Western women often adorn the hijab when in Muslim countries. Muslims "must" adapt when they're living in a non-Muslim society.

I agree that it is by the grace and mercy of Allah that we are saved. (not jesus or holy ghost).
The Holy Prophet Mohammed himself (pbuh) is not saved except by mercy according to a statement he himself made.(even though he was promised paradise and all past and future sins were forgiven).
HOWEVER... you have to work hard in this life. and good deeds strengthen one's faith.
On the day of judgment we will be judge by are good and bad works as well as faith, intention, and sincerity.

Actually in the 4 Muslim countries that I have lived in (morocco, lebanon, jordan, and syria). there is a healthy christian population. nobody forces them out and they are even allowed to sell pork and drink alcohol. That's part of Islam: religious tolerance.
Secondly, part of religious tolerance is allowing people to practice EVEN NIQAB! You cannot fight wrong with wrong. If you are so good, be the bigger person and allow Muslims to wear what they want.

first of all, I will assume you do not know Arabic and have never read the Arabic version of the Qur'an (which is the only actual Quran, any translation is merely an attempt to best explain the Arabic, which can never be 100% translated accurately). Because if you had read it, it tells the woman to cover everything form head to toe. and in the explanation of this verse according to the companions of the Prophet (pbuh) said that this means everything except one or both eyes.

WE have evidence from the prophetic traditions (which are also considered sacred text from which Islamic law is derived) that prove that niqab was used by the wives of the prophet and many women companions. There is a difference of opinion as to whether or not it is obligatory, sure. I personally think it's highly highly recommended. But that's a separate issue. If you would like proof, I would be more than happy to share sources with you.

@dan32113 Firstly, I do not know where you get your sources from. Actually Afghanistan exports 90% of the world's opium and it's biggest buyer is the U.S. And that is a known statistic reported by the DEA.

Thats NOT even what Islam teaches, but then again, every aspects of our actions are accounted for. There are limitations on every things in life. So for the case tht u pointed out, different traditions play a big role.

I can name a few reasons why actually
1)- there is not as much of a need (in the eyes of Muslim women) to wear it in those countries as there is in western countries. Muslim men have more modesty and will lower their gazes in front of women. But you will still see that the majority of women cover their hair.
2) A lot of women turn to religion when they see that the culture that surrounds them is so vastly different from their values

Another reason is that Muslim women (believe it or not) become more education about their religion in the west than they do in Muslim countries. So as they learn more, and gain more piety and faith, they choose to dress as the women did in that time.

I beleive any human being has the right to wear what they want & not be punished for it, no-one should ban something that people have a right to wear.... It is there right & nobody should be aloud to deny us that right.
