What are the ratings of the cap you discharged thru it?

The discharge was 20,000 volts @ 0.5uf, which is 100 joules of energy

I have 2 10kV .5uF caps, I wonder if this will work w/ 50J?

High voltage and a ton of current...hence the explosive destruction of the CD....good 'ol capacitor discharge!
cool stuff, I didn't know that a CD could be conductive enough for anything to happen. I guess there is a metal film, just never guessed that could happen!
You'd be surprised what'll conduct 20,000 volts of electricity! ;-)
