@kicknadeadcat I know without a doubt that people won't agree with me, but I recorded a quick audio clip (that I no longer have) of my Les Paul with the Fralins and the stock BurstBuckers and there was very minimal difference. The Fralins had slightly less highs (a little darker), but not much difference in this particular guitar.
@dbhammond Thanks! I liked the ET65s in the Bogner 2x12" cab. They were warm and meaty. Sounded awesome! However, I tried an ET65 in an open back combo once (Peavey Classic 30) and didn't like it AT ALL. I much prefer the Veteran 30 in the Peavey.
I guess I'm saying it just depends on the cab, amp, guitar, etc... I'd expect them to sound killer in a 4x12" cab.
Great sound man! You are a very good player also. Strong attack - the strings obey you. I have a set of Fralins in my Strat and now watching this movie I'm thinking about this humbs. Thanks for the movie.
I'm back to the stock BurstBuckers. I did a small audio clip with the Fralins and immediately after putting in the BurstBuckers and the differences weren't huge.
The Fralins had a slightly bigger bottom end and less treble, but these were only slight differences. I think I like the BurstBuckers more!
I'm not even 100% sure, but I think they may be Alnico IV magnets. I'm told these are his most popular set (8k neck, 9k bridge), but the website doesn't go into great detail about these. It says his "high output" models are Alnico IV, so maybe these are too?
got my sheptones in my 59, they are fantastic. you should really check them out man. well worth it. I like the antiquities and the sheps both, some nice ass pickups
amazing tone man, fralin makes some good pickups. ive got a 60 CS reissue with seymour duncan antiquities, and i have a 59 that has stock for now, the new pickups are being built, got some sheptone PAF's, never tried them so i figured i would give them a test drive
For the most part, I've stayed out of the big boutique pickup world. I was very happy with a Rio Grande BBQ pickup in the bridge for a while and the stock BurstBucker in the neck of my '58 Reissue Les Paul.
But I decided to try these Fralins and I'm glad I did! I totally dig their tone. They're pretty balanced sounding with no harsh treble or flubby bass. Really full sounding.
I know what you mean about not being able to capture the sound correctly on youtube but i can tell that is an awesome tone. There's no fizz, fuzz or rasp to the distortion, just beef and power.
I've never owned a Herbert, but I haven't played on one and I thought it rocked! I'm a fan of Diezel amps. I've thought more than once about selling my Einstein and Soldano SLO to fund a Diezel VH4, but I just haven't been able to bring myself to do it yet. I may still, though!
I don't know which I'd like more out of the VH4 and Herbert, because I've never been able to compare them. I lean towards a VH4, because of the four separate channels.
What do you think of the Fralin humbuckers in your les paul? I'm just thinking about replacing the pickups in my les paul but i'm not sure for which pickups to go.
Thanks! I really like the Fralins. I just kind of stumbled upon them (had store credit - store had Fralins) and I couldn't be happier. They're really fat, but still have nice highs.
I love your amp vids, especially those with the Landry. Any chance of a more shred/ classic metal-oriented one? Your video with the Jackson through the Soldano captured that vibe pretty well through that amp. I'd be interested to hear you do the same type of thing with the Landry. (Nothing against the Les Paul, of course. RIP Les!)
Hey man, thanks! I actually spent all day today with Bill Landry recording a couple of videos I think he's about to post. I noticed he already posted that "Lay It Down" video and you commented. :)
That freaking rocks, doesn't it? Screw my videos! He's doing it the right way with a Shure SM57 on the cab. I'm using this crappy video recorder that just doesn't capture the tone at all.
Thanks man. Most of my videos have too much low end, so I tried to compensate for this with this video. Now I'm wondering if I took out too much low end? I guess not.
Would you say the Fralins are a big change from the stock Humbuckers, or just subtle.

Do you still have the landry amp today?
skunizzi 4 months ago
@skunizzi No, I don't. I sold almost all of my big dollar items and now just have a few guitars and two low/medium priced amps.

That sounds really good! How do you like the ET65's? I'm thinking of getting 4 of those for my 4x12.

I love your sound man!! What are your favorites Humbuckers for playing hard rock?
jakial 11 months ago
@jakial Thanks man! It really depends on the guitar. If a guitar is naturally dark, I like a brighter pickup and vice versa!

@SgtThump check out WCR and throbak pickups, the latter charge a steep price but i thing they're worth it
