I'm a Timorese and i shud tell you that after watching this vid my respect toward Australian is no less then before. Australian People are friends of East Timorese, not AUS gov.

I havent seen any Indonesian production like this. I bet in Indonesia, the history is still saying that EAST TIMOR people wanted Integration in 1970s--which was a lie. There's no Balibo Declaration. It was signed in Bali--with guns on the 'pro-integration' heads.

Everybody knows that the Indonesian military was behind the massacre of East Timor, but do you think it would've been smart for Howard to accuse the President of Indonesia for it and risk a full scale war when they had the intention of landing troops to protect the East Timorese? That would've been tactless and Howard knew it and didn't want to put our troops in more danger. Is that bad?

Yes the Australian government could probably have done little about the violence.

Thats not the point. The point is the Australian government constantly lied about the Indonesian military's involvement when they had inteligence that it was being orchestrated from the highest levels of the indonesian military.

They argued against sending peacekeepers.

They helped cover-up some of the murders to soften criticism of the Indonesian military.

And finally, after assisting the Indonesian military in covering up the massacres, used the final independence outcome for political purposes, posing as the saviours.
