Sounds good but there has to be at least one guitar player in the audience who could cover the rythm while the guitarist plays lead. It's the economy.
I was 9 in 1971. Today, wonderful memories come to my mind when I hear this song. I remember the school, my friends. I was a happy little girl. Congratulations from Santiago Chile and thanks for this song.
The original bands need to make a better effort at sounding better than cover bands do when they redo the song. They should've hired an extra guitar player to cover the lead guitar licks and banjo that was the signature sounds of this song.
I think that this performance is OK, but yes, it is missing that extra guitar(definitely a key element of the song) and I really love to hear the banjo over the guitar. This is probably the only non-instrumental hit song, that I can think of, that featured a banjo. And it worked so well. This song makes me think of summer. Like most of the one hit wonders from back then, this outshines anything on the charts(are there still charts?) from these days. And yes, I do listen to new bands/music.
An infectiously catchy song indeed. Great performance here, too. The chorus and the vocal part during the solo are tough to sing live. I agree there should be another guitar for the riffs during the chorus.
I can tell you where I was in 1971. Working with the greatest group of people I had ever worked with, as a bunch of natural resources-types - you know, foresters, biologists, agrologists, and so on, mapping Canada's resources. We had a special bond.
One weekend, we had a hayride to celebrate the end of the field season. Some of us were pretty good musicians and at the campfire we broke out the bangoes and guitars and sang this song, several times, and many others.
It's missing the lead riff which is the hook of the song. Otherwise it's good to see old rockers working in their senior years. Means there's more left in the Canada pension fund.

I agree. I saw them do it live too. They are nice people, very friendly and it was a fun, great concert!
Best Wishes, Vince Ravon.

Great to see them still performing but the last show I went to the vocals seem to be strained.

Great song. But this performance obviously lacks the production values of the original recorded version.
Song = A
Performance = C
Nostalgia value = B to A

I don't agree. This is a great sound for a LIVE, three piece band - particularly after so many years. Playing, vocals and harmonies are all great!
Maybe you are just missing the banjo sounds from the original ... ? ;-)

Okay. I watched it again. This performance is not in the A range. Even the B range is stretching.
Don't even watch the video; just listen to the performance. It's OK. C range. 3 Stars on YouTube

It's alright. I like hearing a less than perfect performance now and then. The groove is definitely there.
