  • WOW- You can stil see remnants of this time period when you drive thru there.

  • I wish I could have seen La Porte like this, =) That old movie theater just looks abandoned now. In fact half of Main Street looks like that. I just wish I could see it.

  • These images are precious memories. My dad is one of the kids standing in front of the old theatre. My parents, married over 50 years, were LaPorte High School sweethearts.☺) They're part of a LPHS alumni group that still get together for dinner/ events. Watching this footage is extremely bitter/sweet. Dad said that Calvin Bussy's the "spitten image" of his daddy Jake. "wowee2012", It's refreshing to see a young person with such a tender heart and a compassion for what's important. ♥

  • ... This made me cry and I'm only 17 years old. I wish LaPorte was still like this. Now every patch of grass is being filled with concrete, just look at Fairmont :( it's crazy to actually see your own town back in its early years. It's kind of surreal.

  • @Wowee2012 Yeah- I am 42 and I can remember back when I could hit the gas from the "STOP SIGN" at Beltway 8 and Fairmont and floor it all the way to Sylvan Beach- NOW, we have probably a dozen Starbucks between here and there along with a bunch of other crap. This used to be kind of out in the country when I was little-

  • I really enjoyed this video - thank you so much! Downtown wasn't terribly different than shown in the early 70's!

  • @pegusus950 my pawpaw bought me a train from their o still have it to

  • This is a good place ima junior at the high school

  • I just graduated this year from La Porte and this place is home to all of us young and old forever. I will miss it dearly when I deploy to the Air Force. I can't believe this town was as awesome as it was then in this video, whoever posted this....it was a wild look back in time.

  • I don't know where this video came from but I can see myself on the playground La Porte Elementary. This is great thanks for posting it. I don't even recognize La Porte today. I went to alot of movies at La Porte Theater and use to go to La Porte Hardware Store to enjoy their train disply. Great trip back.

  • I showed my grandpa this and it made him cry, it wishes he could go back to this time

  • oh my gosh it looks so different than it does now its so traditional not full of gangs and trash!

  • @mailbox65 I havent been there since 1987....from your comment I believe I'm better off remembering it the way it was :( I've heard it said," you can never go back home"

  • This is like a window into my Mom's life at 17. I saw her twice in the video. I am touched by it. Thanks.

  • ....I am awestruck, and in tears. I moved away from the area in December 1987, and havent been back since. This vid brought me back. It looks much like it did in the early and mid 80's. My grandparents owned Fatmans bar-b-que there in La Porte, I think it was the city dump before that, If memory serves me correctly. I have missed that place so much! Thank you for the memories!

  • At 40 seconds into this film... the couple coming out of Bob and Marie's with two children are my grandfather and grandmother Pete and Irene Gilliam with my aunt Peggy and my uncle Howard as children... before my father Charles was born.

  • Wow.

  • damn downtown was alive

  • how about the kid that gets kidney punched at 1:15. haha.

  • i wish some1 whould restore the theater

  • I was just over there and it looks the same, except it's in color. LOL

  • My grandpa, J.O Rollins, is the fireman that you see being pulled in front of the camera to talk.

  • If you have any more video's like this, please upload them!! This one is perfect, great song choice also!! Thanks so much for uploading this!

  • Thanks Scotty, the scene of the see saws at the elementary brought to mind a great memory

  • Thanks Scott - any idea who put this together and from what material? I'll ask Colleen, she may know if you don't. Brings back memories of coach Black on that football field - and selling "cinnamon tooth picks" and the twist contests at the Saturday morning movies. Tom Burns
