  • thank god for buckethead and john petrucci, or i wouldn't listen to rock nearly as much these days

  • The Jeff Beck soul!

  • Same shirt he wore during Score. ;)

  • what is the Name of the Bassest, i think i saw him with Joe Satriani in revelation and Made of tears when played live

  • @bzayed8080 Dave La Rue

  • @Mayhem2414 , thanks dude.. looks like a tipical awsome Bassist ,, and the bear belly completes it :)

  • this song would be great with vocals. Wait i met the vocalist, and heard the last album, and the rest of his stuff, right, no vocals then.......

  • Fucking amazing dude!

  • This is just another example of how humanitys fucked up.

This vid gets 0.33 mill views.

Justin (the unnamable) gets 610 mill.

  • sounds inspired by Steve Morse

  • Seriously!... why 28 dislikes? WTF!

  • Mamma mia!!!!!! fantastico!! brividi!!!!!

  • master-FUCKING-piece!

  • He has the best guitar sound. For another example; Eric Johnson.

  • Gary Moore and John Petrucci could't more different to each other. If you know good music and talent, you'd agree that they're both equally impressive in many fields, both technically as well as unique sounding. Long live Petrucci, R.I.P Mr. Moore. :(

  • boring

  • I've seen him live. Definately a master, we're lucky to have him!

  • that last bend shows just home much control he has man, so good

  • alright you technical geniuses out there...how does JP play right in front of his speakers and not get continous feedback? The gate would have to be set pretty high right? But there's clearly no sacrifice in his tone...it sounds amazing. Can anyone help me out? Cheers!

Oh, and JP is amazing..thanks for posting the vid!

  • @jbmusicman1 on his lead sound he will have alot of feedback, its so high gain its hard not too, so he doesnt stop much, however on a rythm tone, its simply to do with not over-gaining, and also its not a tiny tiny venue like a pub, its a stage so he's atleast got a foot 6 feet infront, which is plenty to not suffer from feedback :)

  • why is he so good

  • Hes Good but HE IS NOT GARY MOORE.......

  • @andyrockevo thats because he is way better than gary moore..

  • @nickdawg13 wrong!

  • @rAv3nXXX stupid

  • @andyrockevo

And Gary Moore is not John Petrucci

  • hey can someone tell the name of the bassist?

    thx. :)

  • @oshi1000 Dave La Rue

  • hail petrucci....luv dis songg.....<3

  • Really good! You can hear some bits of "The Spirit Carries On" pretty clearly in his solo.

  • 26 people are ROBOTS! This song is a masterpiece.

  • Absolutely moving

  • Awesome song. I think I hear some Jeff Beck style poking through at times in this song.

  • 3:13 "John Show Them Your Mean Face!" lol

  • Someone should make a statue of him... thats 1000 feet tall.

  • im crying!!! >_< we are lost without you petrucci

  • i am a massive satch, vai, johnson etc etc etc fan but of all of their songs i prefer this one.. this song is truly a master piece!!

  • those you "disliked" this, they surelly disliked the quality of the video, because it's not possible to dislike this song.

  • @tulvan agreed

  • For anybody wondering, this amazing song is based off of G minor. You can get into modes from there if you like, but you should be able to get the basic vibe just by using the g minor scale. Of course you have to be an amazing composer like JP to be able to use it this effectively though. He's using extensive blues notes as well (sharp 11, transitioning between major and minor 7ths, etc.)

  • what scales does heuse in this song?

  • thumbs up if u think instrumentals have more emotion than songs with singing.MUSIC IS LOUDER THAN WORDS

  • @Maniboy440 Of course, the voice is just another instrument ^^ You can show the same feelings with a guitar in your hands... (NOTE: Sorry for my really bad english .__.)

  • @Maniboy440 yeah!!!!!

  • @Maniboy440 Hm, songs with vocals can also be very emotional. Check Virgin Steele's ''Child of Desolation''. If you love emotional stuff you'll prob love it. Both instrumentally and vocaly/lyrically its well crafted : - )

    And this song rules!

  • @Maniboy440 man you say waht i always also!

  • @Maniboy440 the music is more important than the lyrics, too bad mainstream music right now have shit music and shit lyrics.

  • btw, during the intro on the recorded version ( 1:08 on this) what scale or mode is he using?

  • I admit i thought he was just a random shredder until i checked out suspended animation...im so ashamed now :(

  • Every time he plays this song it sounds different, but just as awesome. In my opinion the best song off Suspended Animation

  • cut that hand !!!

  • you guys are douches. this is queensryche....

  • WTF is with the hand blocking at the beginning?

  • God, sweet Lord do I wish I had half the emotion this guy does, in anything I attempt................ beautiful and amazing.

  • I don't know what people mean with "emotion" if they say JP doesn't have it. But JP is about the only guitarist that gives me the shivers when he's playing :)

  • huduh siot petrucci feel

  • his music is great!

  • jp is so insane, he is the best, thats it

  • song is fantastic, and anyone who doesnt think he can show his emotion should listen to 'wishful thinking', which im gonna put out there n say is even better than glasgow kiss, purely coz you know EXACTLY wat he is tryin to portray, and as a muso i can tell u that that aint an easy thing to do

  • i believe shredding is his way of showing emotions.Coz he can do it really well!superb song

  • I like the cd version better. I think this had less emotions and more shredding.

  • just ..the best!!!

  • I can't think of words decent enough to describe John Petrucci.

Amazing player and composer. His lyrics are my personal favourites in Dream Theater too.

  • Is he some kind of God?... probably ... I Don't realy like Dream Theater but... what a Master, and he's Solo Album is Fucking Great =)

  • Oh my God Petrucci, i think i´ll dead after this song over.

  • A song from me to Mr Petrucci,it's on the top of my channel and it's called "In The Name of Love". THANX EVERYONE FOR THE SUPPORT!!

  • 4;30 entering in GOD MODE, people's decapitaton: ON

nowadays, he is one of the finest musicians. Emotions, feelings, expressions and virtuoso techniques are in unique combination of art.

  • @Veid You are absolutely right!!

  • i looooove this one!!!!!

  • I saw him live in Myrtle beach a few years ago on the G3 tour.. OMG He owned the stage.

  • The song sounds similar to Tony MacAlpne's "Restaraunt at the end of the universe"

  • Um... I love Petrucci but he butchered his own song here...

  • @EpsilonVector how do you figure? I can't imagine how well you must know him to make a judgment like that...

  • @dmcgraye What does knowing him have to do with anything? I was simply saying that it is much better on the Suspended Animation CD. He is great at improvising but in this case he just deviated too much from the original feel of the song, which was perfect.

  • MALMSTEEN RULES

  • 3:25, THAT is what I call a perfect bend!

  • everything petrucci makes has soul. all of his songs tell exellent storys!

  • Ahhh it's enjoyable to watch and listen to him :O He's not showing off with his speed at all, he makes music..

  • beautiful...and he is a good guitarist.

  • si...

  • For all those who say they see no soul in his playing, You just got served.

  • totally agree!!!

    there's the SOUL!!!

  • @LetThereBeSolos Truth be told, this is the most obvious, but only people who either didn't listen to him much or don't know how to play guitar say he has no soul.

Either that or they are guitar gods or something. Because Petrucci certainly is one.

  • @LetThereBeSolos I don't get people who say stuff like that..... they're just ignorant people.

  • john seems to like the key of g minor.

  • Petrucci is one of the best. Amazing technallity and feeling. It's like he is speaking to us with his guitar.

  • 3:55

    The camel

  • loved that ending :)

  • It takes a lot of skill to alternate pick as well as petrucci. its much easier to play fast legato (very little picking) like Vai and Satch. Many people like the sound as well

  • His emotional playing has improved a lot. I think he really has it down during this solo.

    amazing feeling

  • is this the DVD version ? lol jokes

  • I hate mobile videos but this track is a masterpiece, if someone has it on hq video please upload.

  • Petrucci Power activate.

  • to anyone who says that he plays without feeling, listen to this, the middle part of "The Count of Tuscany", and most importantly, the Spirit Carries on.

    oops. i jizzed again.

  • he's indeed a melodic player. i cant accept that some people said he has no emotion.. even yngwie said he's a melodic player

  • better than the studio version n_n

  • This is off his suspended animation solo album if you want to check it out. And to all you haters who say he shows no emotion... get a life.

  • @mdmyer You're completely right! Just because John don't play with the guitar on his knees and doesn't headbang or act like a crazy motherfucker people tend to say (erroneously) he shows no emotion...That's completely absurd! He's one of the finest and unbelieveblely best players in the world, and people tend to confuse efficiency, economy of motion and in general technique with lack of emotion...You can completely ear in his playing and see in his body language how much emotional he is! Cheers!

  • @mdmyer

His solo album is REALLY good. I recommend it to everyone. Hopefully he'll pump out another one some day.

  • @mdmyer Yes. And showing emotions isn't about making fuckin' ugly face expressions and do body extravaganza moves. It's about the little nod, the little nose and cheek wrinkle, raised eye browns, open mouth, bad ass mouth, sensual moves with the body and finally showing humbleness to the piece. This is what John Petrucci is all about. I rest my case.

  • @cinemats Also people dont realize that to do most of the playing he's doing, you have to be relatively still. His stuff is a lot more technical that a lot of other guitarists' playing.

  • @mdmyer Yes of course! Can't be all over the place when playing in 2 mil. bps :) People are so......not understanding.

  • @cinemats It's all about the music. You can be absolutely stone faced, but if you play something that moves people inside and comes from your heart, that's emotion.

  • @BillyJimmyBobbyTimmy exactly! i get shivers when i listen to this. The phrasing is amazing.

  • @BillyJimmyBobbyTimmy yeah, what if somone was playing a gig in the total dark and you couldnt see them, but there music was great! would you say they suck or have no soul because its too dark to see them? dumbfucks

  • @mdmyer I agree. Emotions can be expressed in various ways. ex. vai uses his face LOL...

  • @mdmyer Indeed. His guitar play is so difficult he has no concentration an brain memory left to control his motor cortex to show allot of emotion. And when he can he will show you!

  • Never heard of this before. :o Where does it come from? In my opinion, JP looks better and younger in short hair. ^^ And, this is feeling! And speed! So don't say that he's a God. Btw, I've met him twice one day when they had their concert in Sweden. First at a signing in a music store + at Meet and Greet; when I met the whole band. ^^

  • wow

    Great John

    cool video

    amazing song

cool audio, the sound is good

  • And there really are some guys who tell he plays without any feeling

  • john petrucci, is without a doubt, a guitar god

  • @mrtle5 it's not "a" , but THE god ;)

    J'adore!!Magnifique!!

  • This reminds me a lot of what Jeff Beck can do.

  • similar style i guess, as far as melody goes, but petrucci's way more technical

  • long life 4 petrucci

  • DREAM THEATER YEAHHH

  • .........so sad

  • What type of effects petal does John Petrucci use.

  • pedalboard of death

  • LOL. That's a good one.

  • friggin' AMAZING musician. He plays with so much feeling. Very skillful guitarist, love him.

  • best guitarist to ever walk the earth!

  • i think on a par with dimebag and randy rhoads, this song is like sex to my ears, he is a genius, absolute genius

  • haha.thats saying god is on par with two guys who were OBVIOUSLY only mortals....too soon?

  • yes way way way too soon

  • to be fair, they were great but he is much better in all aspects of guitar than they were.

  • no, i think you will find that randy rhoads as a solo artist was a much better guitarist then patrucci. Rhoads solo music, which was brought on by him wanting to continue his classicaly trained tallents in his own material. amazing to hear him playing his own non ozzy material

  • i used to be a monster rhoads fan.but that is like saying chet atkins was better than al di meola.the only thing they were better at was being around first.

petrucci is more dynamic, faster, cleaner, more diverse, better composer.

what aspect of guitar is randy (or dimebag) better than petrucci at?

  • classical guitar playing

  • dimebag was better at classical?

so,rhandy was better in ONE aspect of guitar, that makes him a better guitarist?

there is many aspects of guitar playing.and remember, john went to berkelee.he has some classical in his arsenal.

    dimebag?really?

can we just drop him from this debate?

he was cool.he was dime.but thats it.

  • being great at technical playing does not make you a better guitarist! it does not! look at the bigger picture great guitarists are able to portray feelings and emotions into playing. this is the aspect i am comparing not technical ability. if guitarists were measured on technical ability then we would have a lot of over technical very boring music today, for example herman li, good tech bad emotion, ok guitarist but not comparable to most players

  • his writing ability trumps randy and dimebags.his technical ability allows him to freely express himself without physical limitations.

  • ...r u saying that petrucci DOESN'T portray emotion in his songs?

  • no, the conversation you read is in a funny order, i was saying herman li an his technical jibberish has no emotion

  • ah ok, in which case i agree wholeheartedly

  • i think the reason patrucci is so great is the same reason andy timmons, randy rhoads, dime, kirk ham, vai, morse etc is that they can all portray emotion and feeling in a higher form then technical jibberish on guitar this is what sets guitarists from good and great. like slash from g&r, not a great technical player but very emotionaly involved playing which makes him not a bad guitarist. i do agree patrucci is amazing but i disagree with saying aspects of technicality make you better

  • very true

  • it does make him better.technically.the rest is a matter of taste.

  • @shreddalizer dont foget that his compositional skills can be quantified to some extent too, and of course they are impressive.

  • i believe he is a much more interesting, mature composer than the mentioned guitarists.

some people stun me with their ideas of guitar "gods".musicians will constantly become better from one generation to the next.if it did not work that way, music would never move forward.

  • agree

  • music aint about bein better.

  • JP loves Star Wars so he kind of expressed that in the beginning.

  • wow jp is so good lovely intro

  • Totally different from the original (which I prefer) and too much impro.

  • actually, the original was recorded (2004-2005) after this G3 (2001), so maybe he changed some parts... but kept the main melody that he wrote... an then... after the song was recorded... he re-learned it... to play live... almost like the one on the CD... :P

but I like the improv :P

  • You misunderstood. I like the impro, but I prefer the original track without the impro.

  • Well my mother isn't either... :(

Does it make me a loser?

  • Comment removed

  • how?

  • Your mother is not John Petrucci. This is, though.

  • i think so

  • so dark the con of man

  • thanx a lot for the amazing video budy.. take care

  • Sunny D!

  • It's not just a part of his hand, the guitar is totally infused in him... friggin amazing how anyone can play like that!

  • its impossible for anyone to play like that

only a god could do something like that!

  • or an Overlord

  • oh my God... =)

His guitar is part of his hand...
