No, the government should be strictly limited, not to what it is now, but what it was at its founding (unless changed by constitutional amendments). Government should be slashed by perhaps 80%. Income taxes and death taxes should be abolished. And private property should be respected as a God-given right.

But the greedy government uses FORCE against the citizenry to stop anyone from offering an alternative. You are only free when the government is limited in what it can do against you. Nations and states and localities with less government have more prosperity and growing populations. Those with more government have more debt and falling populations. For example, the highest unemployment is in tax and spend, unionized, blue states like MI, IN, OH. The lowest unemployment is in low tax (high freedom), Right to Work, red states like TX, OK. Because of this red states will grow faster in population and economic growth than will blue states. For instance, it is estimated (wikipedia) that after the 2010 census, Red states will gain 4 electoral votes to reflect their growing population; and blue states will lose 4 electoral votes b/c falling pop.
