  • Can someone explain to me the appeal, besides "It's really hard to make"?

  • @TheLonelyImmortal ok then, you paint those beautiful images on ANYTHING!! Canvas if you'd like. Michelangelo was amazing. Hell, I'm a Wiccan, and even though the images are Christian, they're still wonderful works of art. And what's more, they were painted ON A FUCKING CEILING, with Michelangelo lying on his back for the majority of it, and he was paid very little to do it. This ceiling is an amazing accomplishment. Give props where props are due.

  • @jb111082 Like I said, can someone explain to me the the appeal, BESIDES "It's really hard to make"?

  • @TheLonelyImmortal Because the paintings are absolute masterpieces!!

  • @jb111082 Which aspects of the painting do you like?

  • @TheLonelyImmortal then what is the point of doing any painting or art what so ever? his anatomy and form are spectacular and they are painted in A CELING! his compositions are used as references on like a gagillion art books! the appeal is that he's illustrating the bible on WALLS! (i'm totally a-religious) his skill is way superior than most artist today that think that taking a picture of poo and hanging that in the wall has more meaning than these paintings! was is the appeal of that!?

  • @brendananimation The forms were done well, it's complicated, manifold, and required great skill and patience, but what I call "content" is entirely missing: things like social relevance, is zero; information conveyed, is zero; factual account, is zero; call for change either social or whatever, is zero. The painting has no POINT. Even at the time it was painted, what POINT did it really have, besides adding to more of the "Look how great Catholicism is because of what it has" fallacy?

  • @TheLonelyImmortal ok ok ok ok ok WOOOOOOOO!!!! you got this ALL wrong... I'm a professional artist. THE WHOLE POINT WAS:

Pope: hey michelangelo imma pay you some money if you paint some scenes from the bilble on my celing

Michelangelo: ok man, thats better than working as a soldier, or a blacksmith... sure!

what point does any painting? to look good, to be visually pleasing. I dont give a flying fuck, modern artist do these shitty damn things and hide behind: the celestial meaning of this was

  • @brendananimation Then I think that modern artists need to start making a difference with their abilities. I can't imagine myself having a passion for art but doing nothing with it but making some pretty things to look at. I would do social commentary, or mess around with perspective like M. C. Escher, or something. ...Maybe the Bible was the only fiction they had access to at the time. Books might have been super expensive. Imagine if the pope was a Hayao Miyazaki fan :)

  • @TheLonelyImmortal sorry dude i'm not following you :S mc escher things are very pretty to look at and a lot of social commentary art is as well. but yeah just do what makes you happy, peace love and art, aesthetics and feeling!!

the sistine chapel would have looked way cool if he pope was a Hayao Miyazaki fan :D

  • Beautiful :O) Thank you for sharing

  • Beautiful clip.

Btw (see 0:58 - 1:01) I did not realise that they had vuvuzelas at Michelangelo's time.
