Hadrien has tremendous chops but playing the changes over Stella is something different or any standard for that matter.Knowing harmony and rhythm is key not just flying over the board.Improvisation is a lifetime commitment. You can't cut corners when it comes down to it.Bassist must have the supporting role and the improvisational skills in jazz.
I honestly think Hadrien isn't much of a bassist but a solo jazz guitar bassist. I mean if you listen to him and close your eyes you could swear you were listening to pat metheny. Once I hear him hold a groove and not play like matt garrison than he will be one of many inspirations in my book but until then... nil. No disrespect though great soloist.
I saw hadrien play 2 days ago with a drummer and keyboardist, and although he was soloing for a large part of the show (bear in mind it was at Bass Day UK) when the other guys came to take a solo he really new how to groove. I guess it's a side that isn't showed very well on youtube, but trust me, that doesn't mean it's not there.
Hadrien in my mind is the best bassist on earth...Sorry Vic...But the man has the most sick choice of notes...Hes just not playing random fast licks...He knows where he wants to go...Hes extremely funky and no disrespect in any means but if you guys would just listen to him play rather than watch the sick notes he plays you would here it for yourselves...
It's all opinion. No one hears things the same way. While I may not care for Wooten or Feraud's playing that doesn't mean I don't think they are talented. It goes both ways. You may not care for what I like. I like Mike Pope's playing better than Ferauds, but that's my opinion.
Whoaaa ... chill out with the Wooten business. He's basically the best "known" bass player in the world. Talented is one thing, but great is another. Victor has both & more. Mike Pope is a drummers bass player. He has great pocket. Soloing skills ... ok i guess. Some of the stuff they both do i like. Some i don't. You can find somethinq you like with Victor
Mike is extrmeley knowledgeable regarding music and tours with Al DiMeola hence his use of fast phrasing. So his "chops" serve him well in the environment he plays in.
Wow I remember that....That's me in the background with the green shirt!!!
