  • Imagine if the tree could feel all that, and not be able to move or brush them off. It just has to sit there and take it.

  • super creepy!

  • i went to cornell.. ever heard of it?

  • What do they eat?

  • My dad hacked branches off the two apple trees in our back yard because of the caterpillars.

I don't see why he couldn't have let them be, it's not like the apples from the tree are ever eatable.

  • these kind didnt kill a girl! theyre harmless!!!

  • @Nathongawesomeness tell the trees that

  • The music isn't dramatic enough!

  • Amazing video! Loved seeing those leaves disappear. My favorite caterpillar too. They are so much fun. Ya know...except for the poor trees =(

  • can someone tell me how long does the eastern tent catterpillar stay in a cocoon for?

  • The adult moth emerges from the cocoon in about 3 weeks.

  • 2 weeks

  • i think i remember on the news sayin these kind of caterpillars killed a little girl r these things deadly

  • How... How can caterpillars kill little girls? Are they poisonous, or do they crawl under your skin, or do they have sharp spines or something? How do you die from caterpillars?!

  • idk i thought i heard summin like that before

  • I didn't mean to sound accusatory. Sorry if I sounded rude or harsh.

But I am still curious as to how a nest of web building caterpillars could kill a little girl.

I guess I have one theory: If the girl was actually an infant and was left in one place unattended for a long enough period of time, then the caterpillars may have built a web over her which caused her to suffocate.

But my conjecture seems a little bit far fetched; do you remember how she died?

  • i heard that too. my theory is she was sleeping and they built a tent over her nose and mouth, which caused her to suffocate

  • @SweetHeart4563 Urban myth.

  • *shivers* i saw a bunch of these on a tree few days ago for the first time ever and i freaked out...i hate caterpillars x_x amazing creatures, but they make me shiver

  • Today I found about ten caterpillars which led me to believe that it's "caterpillar season."

I think that's about as many as I've ever seen before in my life (excluding pictures and videos)! A few days ago I found a mysterious web much like this one, but not anything close to a spider's web in a small tree of my front yard. Thta day, I did not see any caterpillars in the tree, nor did I do so today.

  • u know where i am once a year theres like billions of caterpillars around. wht i call it is caterpillar season

  • I love these guys. They're fun to watch and play with.

They have an inclination towards running across open roads and sidewalks in summer. I don't know why.

  • My daughter brought three of these home in a cup from preschool and i hate my neighbor so we snuck across his yard and put them in his tree lol...eastern tent caterpillars are now linked to Mare Reproductive Loss Syndrome...they cause horses to lose their colts prior to birth...

  • I'd light that thing on fire.

  • Horrible!!!

  • what a brilliant timelapse!

    5 stars

  • Wow. Crazy video.

  • that was one of the most amazing things i ever seen.

  • WOAH I really believe now that they CAN kill a tree....
