  • WOW! It would be fun to attend. Having grown up in the oil fields of Oklahoma, you get to see some pretty strange and old oilfield equipment, but never in one place like this. Thanks for the video.

  • Oh, wow, I wish I could have been there! I love hillbillies and their toys! I say that respectively because I was born in Nutter Fort, WVa, and lived there until age 18, then moved to NC. I was in Parkersburg 3 weeks ago to see friends, and go to my class reunion in Clarksburg. Will be back for a visit in and around Clarksburg Sept. 12 of this year.

  • @OldTimerGuy58 Thanks so much for your comment! It's nice to meet you. :-) I can't think offhand when Volcano Days are, but if you do a google search for it, they do have a website. I'm sure you'd enjoy it. My hubby sure does! He'd like to go every year, but due to work, can't always make it. Might see ya there sometime! Have a great day!

  • im going to try and make volcano days with him and my aunt this year, hes really got my interested in the hobby. i want to go to a swap meet with him and pick 1 up soon

  • I'm glad you got to see his engine run! And I hope you do make it to this years show. I'm sure we'll be there sometime, if my hubby doesn't have to work. That's about the only time each year that he gets to see some guys he grew up with. :-)

  • far out, totaly neat. thanks

  • I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

  • The sound is really ....

  • LOL Yeah... I know. But it was much worse to be there in person. I left the sound intact for those of you who enjoy these things. Figured the real sounds would be part of the experience. But yeah, it's pretty bad, huh? ;-)

  • a great video really enjoyed it

  • Was watching the video and saw my father-in-law in it. He passed away Dec. 1, 2007 from cancer. Nice surprise to see him back when he was still able to be up and around and enjoying life.

  • OMG, I thought I had replied to your comment ages ago. I'm so sorry. But I'm glad you got to see your father-in-law enjoying himself!

  • I remember finding one of thesefart donkeys on a beach on Grande Manan island in the bay of fundywhen I was 6, spun the flywheel and it started right away, then I watched my Dad, an accountant, spend 5 minutes trying to stop it!! still like the old units. figure I'll build a steam engine for putting around the yard. Nice seeing the boys having fun with another type of copper coil!!!Thanks

  • wonderful video! tyvm for posting...i LOVE old machinery and would love to visit there sometime

  • I have been to Volcano days a few times...I like the great big hit and miss engine that is on the trailer with the big stack...That thing echos through the valley when it fires....

  • Awesome vidoe we go to alot of that kinda stuff.Tractor pulls too.Looks like ya'll ya some downright fun

  • Watch out for the globs of black oil on the grass. Bad for clothing!

  • This was GREAT! I've live in Northwest PA, where oil was first discovered in the US and where oil wells were drilled and pumped using equipment just like this. One can go hiking today and find many abandoned & rusted remains of the oil industry. Nice to see people restoring these machines that played such an important part in the development of our nation! Thanks for the video, and thanks for supporting your hubby in his hobby. It's not only fun, it's also an important part of our history!

  • Thanks! I'm so happy you enjoyed the video! I didn't realize oil was first discovered in upper PA. Cool tidbit!

  • My grandfather operated a number of these engines on wells in Ritchie and Wood County. I worked for him in the 1950's to earn some money for college. Not an easy way to earn money! Thanks so much for putting this together. Made me homesick. :)

  • They are also called"hit and miss" engines.I have been to volcano days and greatly enjoyed it...Alot of history in this area.

  • I have never heard that term before, but I figure my hubby has. He used to work in the oil fields years ago. And you're absolutely right, there is a lot of history here! Even back to when it was just indians/native americans living here! Where are you from?

  • This looks like a great way to spend a nice day just taking it easy.As much fancy stuff as we have today I still wish things could be more like they were in the old days.Love your videos Claylady.

  • Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy them! I have to agree with you, too. I wish things could be like they were years ago. :-)

  • That was really cool, I seem to recall one of those old wringer washers in my childhood someplace, my grandmother perhaps, along with the horror stories of getting fingers wrung hehe. I wonder if I could get a small sound clip with the steam engine whistle? :)

  • Hi girlie! Thanks for checking this out! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I would be happy to send you the sound clip, if I knew how to get it seperated from the video. Do you know how to do that??

  • hmm yep I can do it in Adobe Premiere, I'll send you my email address in a private message
